  1. Agree that people revert to the simple things, but think the point about corporate dollars remains. This is eveidenced by both the fight we had with the Bulldogs over Mission Foods (where the Doggies dropped thier dacks like a drunken schoolie) and the fact we had to get two co-sponsors on board and could only get the deal across the line late in the pre-season due to some impressive persuasion from Demons alumni to thier business contacts. Future is bright on and off the field.
  2. Alot of assertions based on assumptions in this thread! Claiming the board is manipulating the figures without any evidence is pretty poor form IMO! A couple of things I think need to be pointed out though. Of course income would be down this year, for those who were on another planet for 2009, we went through a Global Financial Crisis this year folks! This would generally results in lower income due to a massive withdrawl of corporate funds for sponsorship and match day functions. The good news is, that the board were able to react quickly enough to reduce expenses proportionally and keep our heads above water. This is a great effort considering both the economic environment and the year we had! When you begin to now factor in the improving economic climate, the extra revenues coming in next year from the improved stadium deal and the game sold to Darwin, the future is starting to look extremely bright. In regards to Dylan Grimes, I'll trust BP's opinion that he wasn't worth persuing. I'm all for the romance of two brothers playing in the team, but you still need to be a good enough footballer (ref - Donald Cockatoo-Collins). We had plently of opportunities to draft him and passed on every single one of them. Ever think there might be a reason for that and it has nothing to do with finances?????
  3. Agreed Deanox - 59 is a good score. This would get him into an Physical Ed/Teaching course at Deakin University! I happen to think that your Enter score is a reflection of your effort & ability. Alot of people in Tom's position could have just dropped off at the end of the year and not studies for thier exams and still passed, my brother did exactly that and still passed his VCE. Given the distractions Tom endured, finishing your VCE and achieving a score of 59 is something to be proud of, please don't diminish his achievements, sometimes the effort is more important than the result!
  4. The club has set itself the goal of dealing with it's list with total integrity. This attitude goes completely against that. We will make the tough desicions when required, but we will also honour all contracts we enter into.
  5. Where's YM when you need him. I can se a rant about BB coming on!
  6. Agreed, but it will higlight those considered to be on the fringe of selection who should perhaps worry about thier ability to hold a spot for 2010.
  7. Wow! Did the Doc get married?! I didn't know! When did that happen? So sorry I missed it, you'd think they would have put a tiny bit in the paper about it!
  8. Scully - Fox Trengove - Noah Gysberts - Gizmo Tapscott - Tappers Gawn - Stretch Fitzpatrick - Fraggle
  9. Jack Fitzpatrick looks like a Fraggle! I'm nicknaming him Fraggle
  10. I heard yesterday that Ritchie has signed on for another 3 years. Obviously in response to the massive outpouring in this thread.
  11. Hmm - lost thier only final in 10 years - lost thier only goalkicker - picked up McLean Yeah, I smell it, but don't expext me to swallow it!!!
  12. Both Frawley & Garland have the speed and height to play tall & small. Although i prefer to see the ball in Frawley's hand runningouot of defense as I believe he has the better disposal of the two. River's as loose man & Warnock as FB also make a good combination. I've also become a fan of Warnock & Rivers' aggressiveness, I think it's important to have that presence there to help look after the greenhorns. I think Bennell, Bruce, Davey, Grimes, Morton & McDonald rotating through the back line & mids is the better mix for this half of the ground. I love watching Cheney play but I worry that his height may restrict who he can play on. We do need to get games into Strauss as well, but I'm sure they'll find room when one of the above six are rested or injured, same goes for McNamara with the talls. I think Bell will be played only if we are decimated by injuries, so as much I like him, I hope I don't see him out there.
  13. Great draw for next year! Richmond twice, that's two opportunities to show our gratitude to Jordan McMahon. God bless his dirty little mo.
  14. Could be wrong but remember reading somewhere that he suffered through injury this year, may have lowered his stocks a bit.
  15. Not scoring in invite to the main camp is also a pretty good indication. I'm not saying they're crap, just that they're an outside chance and not worth wasting a top 40 pick on.
  16. I think if he doesn't choose to go PSD the he doesn't want to come to Melbourne, if that's the case, I don't want him. He knows the score, we have plenty of spare cash, a midfield lineup to drool over after this year's draft and very real premiership prospects in 3-4 years time. If he doesn't want in, so what..
  17. Temel & Majak Daw were both overlooked by Burgan. Surely this would indicate that they are an outside chance. Rookie at best for them, other wise a very late pick.
  18. Tall Backs: Frawley Warnock Garland Rivers - Back line to be dubbed Ol' Faithful Running backs: Grimes Green Morton Blease Pure Mids: Moloney Trengove Scully Jones Running forwards: Petterd Silvia Wona Davey Tall Forwards: Bate Jurrah Watts (Butcher/Black) Rucks: Specner Martin - Keeping the faith in them both EMG: Bruce Jetta Bennell Essentially I think by the time we're ready for a premiership, this we be the way the game is headed. You will have a core group of Tall Fwds & Backs, a ruck division, and a group of around 12 runners who can all swap around for rotation purposes (Mids & running fwds/backs). When you think about adding 3 years of experience into that group - we're in for exciting times.
