I agree. In the good tradition of trading, there is probably a good case to take the 3 yrs off the table, given he is not rushing to sign, preferring to keep testing the water. Back to 2 yrs, not negotiable. Looks like MFC played tough guy for weeks, relented, only to be stood up. If you're gonna play the game, play it to the end. Looks to me like we are the safety net. NO. His last 2 years have been ordinary in the sense he has not had a big impact on games (generally) when he has played. He's 25 on Monday - should be at his peak for a mid/small forward. He's got 1 yr of contract remaining, so he needs a big year in 2009. I'd trade him for the right deal (player or pick), but not at any price. Having said that, I don't think he's on the table. Connolly has been quoted as saying that MFC targeted Alwyn Davey & Robert Warnock because we have their brothers playing with us, and we know them pretty well.

Doesn't have an AFL career any more: MFC tried to trade him in 07 without success, no chance this year. I'd guess that Claremont got in touch with him, to see what he's doing. Hopefully, he can reach a settlement with us, then head home west to play a few years in WAFL.

Apparently Claremont (his original WAFL club) has been talking to Carroll. In today's Age. Fingers crossed.

Bobby, you're right, it is my guess (I have edited my post accordingly). But given White & Yze combined were on $1M+ this year (from Chris Connolly), in presumably back-ended contracts, I reckon my guess is reasonable. The contract was signed when Bruce had all the signs of becoming a marquee player after a great year. Presumably it was backended as well, and next year is the 3rd year of 4, so I reckon the $'s are getting up there. Also, we are at 100% of salary cap. Somebody must be getting marquee rates.

Your right, heaps have. To what end. Ellis played school footy for a year, McNamara a year in the Sandy 2's, Maric mostly Sandy 2's and 1's and a couple in the MFC ones (showed a little, admitedly). Newton was extremely young when drafted; he plays like it. Why not wait another year? You could say yr10 kids are fair game for the draft. You have to draw a line somewhere. I say 18yr old it is (18 in year of trade - ed).

I really admire McGregor. What a clubman. I think he was much maligned by Adelaide supporters, BUT, he had the fortitude to retire, with a year still remaining on his contract, because it was the best for the club. Pity Carroll, White, Yze et al didn't take the the same unselfish approach, particularly Carroll.

He's never been the same player since Guerra pinned both arms and deliberately drove him into the MCG shoulder/head first - wasn't even booked for it. :angry: 6? weeks to recover, but a shadow of his former self when he returned. Still a (very) good player, but a sad legacy is he is being paid at marquee player rates (must be $600K-700K next year, my guess - ed.), but does not and will not now have the inpact of a marquee player. Sad really, for him and the MFC.

Both will be delisted, as announced (tho' actual delisting is not til Nov 14 with List Lodgement). So they will go into the PSD. UNLESS more than 1 club is interested, and approaches MFC to do a trade so that he doesn't go to the PSD. (Depending on the club, they may have an eye on another player in PSD, so that would encourage a trade for White, or Yze for that matter.) The PSD is looking more and more interesting by the day - gotta wait til Dec 16 tho'.
