  1. Well lets think. We came last, by a good measure, with no percevable upside, we have no home, no training base (despites months of talk), a bunch of novice, unproven coaches and not one champion/marquee player. Oh yes, and we're $zillions in debt. Can't think why they'd want to go anywhere else?
  2. The 2 yr contract has been mentioned for some weeks. Even in todays Age(?). But still not signed. You gotta wonder? (Hey red &......., what keyboard you using?)
  3. Pavlich, JBrown (F/S) and Joel Corey would be the only dead set stars from the 99 draft. Great picking by MFC on this occasion.
  4. That will do for a start. Backs have come on, forwards shown a bit with little opportunity, rucks have come on. Mids? Ratsh*t. WILLIAMS OUT. Actually, the more I think about it, the more convinced I am. Crap delivery to forwards. No defensive pressure on opposition mids delivery. Every time our backs get it out, it comes back faster. Our midfield is largely non-functional. Williams must go.
  5. I have commented on the Morton comments in the "Morton" thread; post #18
  6. The following is a summary of him in the Age last year, before the draft: 23. Tom McNamara (South Adelaide. 17, 190cm, 84kg) McNamara, a member of the AISAFL Academy, may be a tricky one for the recruiters to place, having spent the majority of his season playing school football in Adelaide. He looks like a genuine full-back and has some good spring and athleticism. Seems able to control the space around him well. He is young. The writer rated him in top 25. Success may well depend on how he handles the move to Melbourne. Article here.
  7. How long does it take to wear off .......................?
  8. Also, maybe Green's manager has been asking around, puting out feelers etc. Mind you, there has been no announcement by the MFC, so I doubt he is actually signed yet. And Davis, I've been thinking about the salary cap thing with the cats. Prismall is not signed yet, and they could trade for salary space. Plus, as I understand it, all the cats have been modest in their pay demands, so as to keep the side together. Green could easily ride along with that. They're a cert to play in the finals next year, and a good bet to make the GF again. Hell of an incentive. <_<
  9. I will, because 2000 was debut year for Bruce, Wheatley and Green. In the GF, Green got garotted just before 1/4 time and was hospitalised, Bruce didn't play - he was a late withdrawal, and Wheatley didn't play. So I suppose you're right, they went (were) missing.
  10. Prismall & pick 15 for Green?
  11. Maybe if we were a top 8 side (or even top12) who is not getting absolutely flogged most weeks. Maybe he's thinking he'll learn his craft in the VFL. That's a hell of a hope/guess.
  12. Hey, this topics about Davey. Go start your own.
  13. Bartel was. But when they kicked it to him, they put it on top of his head, and he had 3 hawks to contend with.
  14. I think Geelong would love to have Green. A skilled, long kicking left-footer who can play back/forward/mid and tall/short, and with a degree of hardness. They clearly have a defiency in the forward line. Would we give up Green for pick 15? I wouldn't - I want him to stay.
  15. I think Geelong would love to have Green. A skilled, long kicking left-footer who can play back/forward/mid, and with a degree of toughness. I reckon they will identify a few weaknesses and try to fix them. Blake was a disaster yesterday, so they could well be after a new tall (bet they wished they still had King). Would we give up Green for pick 15? I wouldn't - I want him to stay.
  16. It's a good point you make, Titan. Was it not so for Woee and TJ as well tho'?
  17. Geelong lost because they couldn't buy a goal in the 2nd, and start of 3rd qtr. 7.5 instead of 1.11, and I reckon it was headed towards a blow out. Hawks were showing signs of panicking - Mitchell taking cheap shots. But you just don't get that many chances to stuff up, and still win. (Reminded me a little of our prelim win over Carltank in 2000. They just couldn't put us away. Flattered us hugely.) Bla bla bla. But winners are grinners.
  18. A favourite son, I know. And a great story, climbing of the rookie list after a plea by Danners for members to put up the $'s. BUT, his contribution over the past 2 years has not carried on from his early start. I'm not questioning his ability as much as his output, and impact on the game FOR US. He is 25 next month, and should be peaking (as a small forward). But he's not. He should have currency in this draft period. And many people on this forum have talked about making tough decisions. Should be worth a 1st rd pick. I'm inclined to say YES for the right trade. Thoughts? (Think about it, don't just abuse me! )
  19. Which paper?
  20. Hay and Lonie were traded in 05, Chick was traded in 02 (all for 1st rd picks!) . They also drafted well in 01, and they gave up a first rd pick in 03 draft for Croad's return, the weakest draft of the decade. They have done better than most in the draft (not always - Jacobs), but players still need to be developed. They were lucky with Croad tho'. He left an insufferable big-head; returned much more mature (and on a much lower pay packet I'd wager). Also, I think we learnt nothing from the 2000 GF. We were monstered, totally intimidated. To win a GF, you need to be able to intimidate. We should have started to draft and trade for hardness then.
  21. I doubt it. Faced with a year (2010) in the Casey 2's will see him retire and move on. Pride has to step in if you're a laughing stock. (And just to beat others to it, I think the same will apply to Chopper in 09. Faced with a year in the Casey 2's, I expect he will come to an arrangement with MFC and move on.)
  22. Sigh. And in the finals, when the pressure is on, every possession is contested. Tell me one Geelong or Hawthorn player who is exclusively OUTSIDE. That's what he is, exclusively outside. We don't need a player who is exclusively outside. IMO of course.
  23. No. 4 in 2003 ND. (We got McLean at pick 5.)
  24. Found this from a summary of potential draft picks in the Age last year: 3. Cale Morton (Claremont. 17, 192cm, 79kg) Plenty of clubs would take the third Morton brother if they had the No. 1 pick. Others dropped away after his finals series, where he was subjected to some close opposition attention. Morton boasts elite skills, especially for his size, and his running power. He's a true utility and he has all the attributes to thrive in today's precise, uncontested game. Interesting. Of interest to me is that some club's interest fell away after his final series where he got some close attention. And the last sentence: he will thrive in today's precise, uncontested game. That isn't going to win premierships. Plenty on this forum are convinced he will be a gun. I am not. The article is here - interesting 20/20 read.
  25. Heavens, I didn't know that side of it. So Sewell wanted to leave a crap team, and Fergs didn't want to leave a good side!
