  1. I repeat: Bruce is half way through a (probably back-ended) 4 yr contract - he has 2 years to go @ probably $600K-700K per year. Given his drop in worth, if we trade him, we are probably up for $200K-$300K per year (at least) for 2 years, of his contract at a new club. Simply saying we must get what we can for him is just plain stupid. Next year, we are at 90% of salary cap = we can't afford to trade him. What we need to do is to get him to agree to a substantial pay cut, on the agreement he will not be traded.
  2. Thanks. I didn't even mention Morton's lack of toughness. I know many folks on this forum, and elsewhere rate him. To me he has a huge engine, and footy smarts (ie where the ball is/is going). His foot skills remind me of Bruce, sadly, and he will need to develop toughness for the contest. BUT I DON'T WANT THIS THREAD TO TURN INTO A MORTON DISCUSSION.
  3. Apparently Brereton insisted on toughness when drafting, when he ran the footy dept at the hawks. 2 recent draft picks by the MFC lack foot skills - Morton & Jones. BUT potentially very good players. So, what I am suggesting here is: at a minimum, any player drafted by the MFC MUST 1. be tough (hard, likes a contest) 2. have VERY good foot skills under pressure (edited) Apart from a lot of negatives this year, we have 1. appeared soft 2. had appalling footskills. thoughts? edit: by foot skills, I mean a good kicking technique.
  4. How do you know what's offered? More value than what? = nothing for 2 years.
  5. Good point. Anyone know what the rules are for the ND? Can a player nominate his terms, unrestricted?
  6. Related to Y_M?
  7. Like your thinking 'furious'. Given the chance, I hope we do it.
  8. I started this topic because it was reported that several clubs had enquired about Rivers. So consider it from that point of view, not that we are trying to off-load him. There is a difference.
  9. Fair go? He does cover ground, just its at the one pace.
  10. In the Australian, Warnock is quoted as repeating his preference for Carltank; and Carltank won't offer better than pick 24. Might go to PSD, and Carltank get him for 0. No way we can draft a player who doesn't want to be with us. Or could we? Just to be bastards. Carlton did it with Stevens to deny the Filth.<_<
  11. (See 1st post) Absolute nonsense. Good one. <_<
  12. How? What chance?
  13. Don't be so simple. Green is out of contract; Bruce has 2 yrs to go on his, probably at about $1.4m for the 2. Even if we trade Bruce, we will be up for some of the 1.4. Trading is not about keep him, dump him. It's about $'s and value given existing contracts. We all know you don't like Bruce, but that's the way it is. Supporting a club is above individual players.
  14. Could be right. Filth have just delisted Brodie Holland, Sam Iles and Chris Egan. They have room in their mid-field, and $$$$$$$'s!
  15. Hold the knife DD. Its still just gossip and rumour. <_<
  16. Tough one this. A favourite son, BUT we have had bugger all from him for 2 yrs. Another topic suggests there are clubs who would trade for him. Thoughts? And how much would we want. For me; trade = yes (sadly); how much = 2nd round pick.
  17. Now that's better. <_< Some real gossip and rumour. Let the dealing(s) begin!
  18. I agree on both counts. Just couldn't let the "Jones exploding" bit go. <_< Seriously though, he must gain speed and acceleration to take the next step. Only way is to lose weight. (By the way, I'm not inferring he's fat! To the contrary, its all muscle; too much muscle.)
  19. yeah, I know; he said he had lost weight over the summer - less weights, more sprinting. Looks to me like he has whacked it all on again: no acceleration, modest speed. Never all that big? You're kidding. He's built like a brick sh*thouse.
  20. Every chance if he keeps putting on weight; he'll be the size of a small hippo, and about as effective.
  21. Doubt it. Bruce has 2 yrs of a 4yr contract to run; no doubt back-ended. Probably in the $600K-700K range. Another reason why Green wants more.
  22. I am with you on this - he did his knee in a run of the mill twist/turn/slide. Richo, for example, crashed into a fence. Time: no problem. Look at Ox; did his knee just turning: 4 reco's. Leave it to the doc's. And 3 year contract is OK "with the right conditions" as I am sure it is with Green.
  23. Me too. Apart from skill and talent (sic), MFC needs steel and hardness.
  24. Heard a comment on Saturday that many of the hard nut Hawk mids were drafted while Brereton was in charge of Football dept - and he insisted on toughness being a criteria. They certainly play with mongrel. Will be interesting to see if they control it against the cats. Last year they totally lost it against the kangas in the final they lost; 3? reports.
