There are only 90 interchange the whole game. We left 10% of interchanges for about 7% of game time. Can't fault that. As for the umpires, there was a period in the last quarter whereby north received 8 free kicks in a row. How on earth is that fair?

This might be the most important post on demonland. For a player to come out and say that the coach isn't rated highly amongst the playing group and they are awaiting for the replacement is massive news and explains why for 2.5 years this team has been below average. if performances like last weekend keep getting dished up then Roos ongoing tenure at the club will need to come into question.
-
i can't speak on behalf of the whole playing group All I can do is pass on comments made to me from a player about the club. He specifically said that Roos isnt rated as high amongst the playing group as he is by the wider population. results onfield reflect this sentiment
-
The remarks regarding the coach also came to me as a surprise. The particular player has been on the outer (both omitted and injured) since Roos took the helm so it might just be sour grapes. The remarks were that the players are actually looking forward to Goodwin taking over.
-
I dont believe it as much not playing for the coach rather that he doesn't get the best out of them...
-
I just don't think the team are playing for the coach. I have it on good authority that Roos isn't liked within the playing group and they are looking forward to see the back of him.
-
The other teams utilize a zone d Clarkson and his past assistants use a zone defense. This means that you aren't playing man on man and you can preserve your energy. Less intensive defense. Why change a winning formula
-
I'm not a believer in Roos' game plan. Other sides with similar lists have catapulted up the ladder in a shorter time frame. The current defensive game plan is that it essentially revolves around putting constant defensive pressure on the opposition. This then results on turnovers. The issue with this is that it requires the players to be on their game all the time. If they aren't then the game plan falls away. No player is 'on' every minute of every game. im not too sure what or offensive plan is however if there is one then it's not obvious. Alister clarkson has totally changed the game. He is a genius and will go down as one of the greatest coaches in history. All the successful sides: dogs, Eagles, GWS even the tigers are all coached by his assistant. Its essentislly a game of keepings off (predominately by foot) which results in tiring out the opposition. Melbourne run around like headless chooks and these other sides wait for a Lois man and spread. Leaving us for dead. Lets hope Goodwin has his own plan, initiative and isn't a clone of Roos.

Time for Roos to give up Match Day duties?
bandicoot replied to Redjacket's topic in Melbourne Demons
The sooner Roos leaves the better. after 2 years im still not sure what the game style is. The whole competition is adopting the clarkson style and Roos is stuck in 2005. His game plan requires 100% commitment and application every week and is exhausting to maintain. If the players are ever so slightly off then we lose. we need to change the game style immediately and Roos is not the person to do it. lets hope Goodwin has got something new and fresh -
It's not our players.... essendon have a deplorable list and are able to beat us. our game plan and structure are hopeless and not even the hawthorn list could implement it effectively. When the whole comp is mimicking clarksons structures Roos is hell bent on sticking with his 2005 game plan. get rid of Roos asap and let Goodwin try change the style before it's too late.

our leadership is lacking and has been lacking for years. Jones might be slightly above average as a leader but then it drops off significantly. Leadrrship comes with age and experience of which we lack both. hawtjorn have 12 leaders in their team each and every weekend. We won't be in that position for another 5 years.

At least 6 more years before a premiership

The stat isn't for the whole playing group. It's for the 22 that run on the field. -

Not too sure if there has already been a reply... 107 games 15 players over 150. statistically they were primed. -
There seems to be a common link between all premiership sides in the last decade. That link is a playing group with an average of 120+ games and 2/3 of the list at 100 games or more. With those stats Melbourne is at least 6 years away as our core group has hardly played 50 games. This isn't to say that we won't win a final or two but the list will only be really primed after 2020.

Brayshaw had a complete pre season. The fact that he was out for 3 weeks doesn't negate 6 months worth of work. no reason to hold him off this week.
-
jones was good on the weekend but isn't in a fully fit Melbourne side. Gus, trac, HL and trengove will force him out. Has it over grimes, ANL, harmes and stretch for the moment.
-
Seems that the new rule changes have had the desired effect on the game. There were eight teams this weekend to score more than 100 points. I believe the dees will benefit from this as we have a defensive minded game plan. I dont see us getting into shootouts and I think we will frustrate many teams that are used to free flowing football.
