  1. I wonder if Longmuir meant indifferences or differences? One for the grammar thread, perhaps?
  2. Let me vent my spleen a little more. 1. "You're bias". You can have bias, in which case you are biased. It's a noun, not a verb. 2. "That's cringe". It may make you cringe, in which case it's cringeworthy. 3. "Get off of". An Americanism that just grates. 4. "Allot" means to distribute, to allocate. If there is plenty of something, there's a lot of it.
  3. Either that or they'd think it was a Greek bloke coming down the stairs.
  4. It's a challenge not to be condescending to Collingwood supporters. On the off chance any Magpie fans are reading this thread, "condescending" means to talk down to.
  5. I've noticed that many players use "myself" instead of "me". For example, they'll say something like "The coach had a word with myself about kicking for goal".
  6. You've got a grip on it, now?
  7. Not the same market. Friday night is two horse race while the Premiership still has many contenders.
  8. "Forward planning" is also a tautology. You can't plan retrospectively. Another bugbear of mine (and we can probably blame Kurt Cobain!) is people thinking that "never mind" is one word.
  9. I cringe at "I could care less", which indicates that the speaker has at least some level of care. Surely "I couldn't care less" (I have no care) is what they mean.
  10. The line is "I can't get no satisfaction" but your point stands.
  11. Kent Kingsley would be captain. Supermercado often refers to him in his wonderful Demonblog.
  12. I know somebody who pronounces "trough" as "tro" because that's what her mother did. Must ask her if her mum voted for Go Whitlam.
  13. Marcus Whelan won his Brownlow in 1939. I believe that old dee may have been there.
  14. Just the three Demonlanders clever enough to realise that ... drumroll ... all the players in my team share a surname with that of a Brownlow Medallist. B: Marcus Whelan Kevin Murray Paul Kelly H/B: Bill Morris Ian Stewart Simon Black C: Len Thompson Colin Watson Bernie or Ross Smith H/F: John Schultz Peter Moore Nathan Buckley F: Denis Ryan Roy Wright Robert Harvey R: Neil Roberts Herbie Matthews Brian Wilson I/C: Brian Gleeson Greg Williams Allan Hopkins Di ck Reynolds
  15. Mythbusters covered firewalking in one episode and the secret is to walk quickly and softly over the coals. As the above clip shows, Notso Smart burnt his feet by stomping heavily through the embers.
  16. That may well be the case, EO. I've got a date with a doona, but I'll post the reveal tomorrow morning. Will anybody else crack it? Hint #2: The solution relates to the players' surnames.
  17. The hint has helped mo64 work out the common factor. We have our first three placegetters but I'll leave it open for others to have a go.
  18. I would not assume that at all.
  19. Chill, mon. Maybe they'll play Toots and the Maytals version.
  20. It appears that there has been little movement at the station. Either it's too hard OR nobody cares OR it's too hard and nobody cares. Hint #1: There is a football connection.
