  1. The "changes" thread becomes redundant once the teams are announced and is duly locked. What do other posters think of the idea that this "teams" thread should be combined with the match day thread instead of having both running and often discussing the same issues?
  2. I had the best seat in my house.
  3. It's all relative I guess. The basic wage in 1968 was $1.35 an hour so $1.25 for a soft cover book sounds right. These days it's about $20 an hour which would probably buy you a similar book.
  4. That's .... very hard to believe. Are there any images of this alleged banner?
  5. We should know more by late this afternoon when final teams for Sunday are announced.
  6. Some posters on this forum are no better with their use of such childish, cringeworthy terms as "Whorethorn", "West Coke", "Essendrug" and "Jeelong".
  7. I would have thought that such matters would be handled in private by the players' managers.
  8. They thought about playing robot soccer at one stage. The final scores in the trial game were R2D 2 defeated C3P 0
  9. I don't reckon his form 12 months ago should have any bearing on selection this week.
  10. None of us know why Daw had to go off so it's a bit premature to assume it was due to anything untoward. It would be nice to find out the reason he was unable to return after quarter time.
  11. On the title page it says "Written by Jack Dyer and Brian Hansen". I would wager that Jack did very little, if any, of the actual writing! The book, which was published in 1968 by Southdown Press, cost $1.25 for the soft cover edition. Apart from Mopsy Fraser, there are also chapters on Ron Barassi, John Coleman, Murray Weideman, Carl Ditterich, Ted Whitten, Bob Skilton, John Peck and Norm Smith, five of whom have a past or present connection to Melbourne. To call all these players "Wild Men" is drawing the longest of bows.
  12. Was it this book? I read it and re-read it avidly as a kid and still have it sitting in my footy book collection.
  13. Beauty, as ever, is in the eye of the beer holder.
  14. 90% of that distance covered is in his runups when kicking for goal.
  15. Demon player: "Hey umpire, can I say that was a shizenhousen decision?" Umpire: "No, it'll be a 50 metre penalty if you say that". Demon player: "Am I allowed to think it was a shizenhousen decision?" Umpire: "You can think whatever you like". Demon player: "I think that was a shizenhousen decision".
  16. Dear Mister Moderator, Can you please do something about these excruciating anagrams, especially repeats like "shamer". Yours etc, E. Marsh
  17. Steven May has been fined $2000 by the MRP for tripping Bobby Hill.
  18. It wasn't a free kick. The ball bounced off Hogan's head which made it look like Petty had hit him.
  19. If he is embarrassed by it, would that journalist be his shamer? I do love a good anagram!
  20. Does anybody know the purpose of all this ball-spinning we're seeing these days from many players?
  21. You would hope it's just the wind, but so far it's just been a scrappy, error-ridden shocking spectacle of a game.
  22. Stellar work as usual, Webber. I love the look of the jumper without all the sponsors' logos and AFL insignia.
  23. These were our best players according to 'The Age'. Looks like we have another midfield god to accompany Gawn, Petracca and Oliver. BEST Melbourne: Petracca, May, Oliver, Pickett, Fritsch, Gawn, Hermes.
  24. Aloha Max and Goody!
