God damn it. I was behind the goals today and had a great view of Pettys goal just after half time not long before he went off. It was a fantastic goal for lots of reasons- the ball looked like coming in just before hand and I watched him take his defender and then put body on Melksham defender to free up space for Melksham. When the ball wasn’t delivered he faked a lead and then led into space and took a great make before kicking a tough kick. Awesome goal. I turned to my partner and said if he plays like that for rest of season we win the flag. Two mins later I watched him hobble off ā˜¹ļø

Holy moly, the pies( team of the century) season is starting to unravel a bit.
  3. On route to the waterfront now for a couple of pre game refreshments. Let’s hope for a better start than last time we played North here. We were behind at half time with Tommo doing his ACL in first quarter. Dees by 45 with Petty to kick 4. Edit. Just looked at the betting odds for the above. $11. I’ll have a bit of that I think.

I’ve got that warm fuzzy feeling. Pies looking very venerable at the wrong time of year. I really hope this is their style of play and long season catching up with them and not due to a loading block.

With no rotations left I don’t even want Hawks to kick away just yet. Keep the tempo up and ruin the the pies in the last 12 mins. Edit. They just kicked away😊

Are you sure? Walters is currently ranked number 2 and Read 8th by Cal but as we have seen in recent drafts academy and farther son picks tend to slide further as clubs know they won’t get them. Think Diacos and Tom Green. If they don’t slide and go 2&8 that’s around 4000 points but don’t they then get 20% discount? Making it around 3200 points. Unless I’m wrong and the discount only applies to Father/son picks.

Gold Coast currently hold the following picks in this draft 5, 25,31,41,54 59,61&77 which is equal to 4049 points which would be close to what they need for their academy players. Any deal with them will probably have to include a future first.

We can’t trade JJ as he’s a free agent.

I was already of the opinion that we must recruit a quality key defender via trade or the draft and that was before Petty’s breakout game at the weekend. If he can continue to play well we’ll up front then I think the need is even greater. I know we have Disco and Adam’s in the twos but are they going to provide the quality we need to replace May and Petty. Tommo has done ok since he came in but he’s close to the end and rumoured to be looking for a trade. A case could be made that we need to bring in a couple of Key defenders. If we trade for Reid I think we still have to have enough capital to snag a very talented key defender as well. So we either need Tim Lamb to works some serious magic to secure both or we need JT to be able to pick one up a bit later in the draft like he did with Petty.
  10. Would you prefer ā€œmanagedā€ ? Or like to see ā€œgeneral sorenessā€ thrown in for good measure?
  11. If Petty can lockdown his forward role for the rest of the season I wonder if we will really consider going for @Pennant St Dee man Daniel Curtain in the upcoming draft. We already needed to bring in a key back to cover May. We may need to replace Petty in the backline now as well.
  12. I’m happy for us to rest a couple of players against both North and the Hawks in a couple of weeks. Cats were able to do it last year and still win games and had players in great shape for finals. It’s not like we are resting them and bringing average players in. Hibberd, Grundy, Sparrow are quality replacements. If Sparrow isn’t fit this week I’d hold off until the Hawks game to rest Viney.

Agree, already looking good player. Has done well at centre bounces this last quarter. Can see why JT wanted him so badly.
  14. Jeez the death riding is stressful today. Hopefully cats improve in the last quarter.

He did mention that the payment structure would be complicated to work out by was confident it wouldn’t stop the deal from getting done. Really if he does decide to leave it would be down to his management and whatever club decides to take him to sort that end of it out as I think we would be reluctant for him to leave.

Damian Barrett( I know I know) on the radio just now, very adamant the Grundy is gone this trade window. Sounded more like he has info that’s the case other than just speculating.
  17. Keeping a close eye on the Suns game today. Hope they can spring a surprise or at least lose by a smaller margin than Freo do. šŸ¤ž

Great stat and something has defined the narrative around the pies all season. In a lot of game teams should be out of sight of them before the last quarter starts. Hopefully all the close games are now starting to catch up on them.

How was that 15m to Pendlebury ? Happy to give them against Carlton in the first half.

I’d be surprised if McKay is worth that sort of money. I’d rate all 4 of our key defenders ahead of him( Tommo maybe the same). If he’s worth $800k what’s Lever, May and Petty worth? Clubs might be willing to pay a bit more considering they don’t have to give up draft capital but still can’t see him earning near $800k. FWIW I don’t mind if they do give them pick 3 for him, just don’t want them getting high end compensation and access to Sanders on top of the two picks they were given last year. As I remember clubs weren’t happy that we got pick 3 for Frawley and it was seen as being more or less a priority pick.
  22. Colm replied to dazzledavey36's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
As other have stated Frawley was a better player than McKay. It looks like the AFL is going to look after North anyways. The question now is will they give them pick 3 and access to Sanders. Effectively two top 10 picks. This would greatly compromise the top end of this draft and our pick 4( hopefully). They already have traded out an early second round pick from this draft that was given to them last year.

Points for father/son won’t be an issue. They already have 2nd round pick and can do a 3rd round pick swap with Suns and their future 3rd. Might pick up a lesser pick during trade period either or if they were stuck they could go go into points deficit for next year. Really wouldn’t be hard for them to trade with Suns and be able to have enough points for father/son.
  24. Colm replied to dazzledavey36's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
I can’t see us getting the Suns pick for that. Other teams are better placed than us I think. The dogs have two first round picks and a father/son that will be around their picks. By trading uk they get a top 6 pick and their F/S. I do like the thinking though as I think we need a Key defender so if we do the deal to get Reid we need to keep a decent pick for this year as well. If the Suns lose Flanders this year then they may not need as much points for their academy players and may be interested in a future pick as part of the deal.
