Footyology: Comment on JVR tackle
I’d love to be a fly on the wall for the umpires game review after a game like that. What’s the consequence for getting calls like the one a live wrong?! Do they just laugh it off and say they decided to let it go as it was the closing stages of a tight game? Do they look at every questionable(wrong) decision during a game and are happy if they keep it under a certain number? Does the amount of media attention they get in the aftermath of a game have a bearing on how in depth they review each game? You wouldn’t think they can be happy with the the amount of costly errors they make during games but there doesn’t seem to be any improvement or real plan for improvement. I’m still off the opinion that the AFL has no intention of improving the standard of umpiring as bad decision create more media attention than good ones and they feel they currently have the balance right to suit their needs.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
North would be crazy not to take him at pick 3. Looks absolute quality and fills a need for them. Top 3 and maybe 4 starting to look pretty set. Anybody know how Duursma went over the weekend? Hawks are supposedly keen on him at pick 4.

He’s probably my favourite commentator. He’s a bit vanilla at times but at least he speaks his mind and you don’t get the feeling he’s a complete AFL puppet.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
The Tassie team will also spend their first year in the VFL. If we pick either of the two Tassie mids I can’t see them leaving the first year as they should be on top of their game at that stage and wasted in the VFL. So we should get 6 years out of them as a minimum and then get very well compensated should they leave. I do think we would have to rate them as a high chance to have an early impact on the starting 22. No point having them spend the majority of their first couple of years at Casey.

Nice work PD. A bit of thought went into that. I’m not sure that’s the sort of deal that will appeal to the Suns as they would have way too many points in this draft to cover their Academy players. Then could on trade 17&23 for a good future pick and something a bit later in this draft maybe. But if we were looking at doing a 3 way trade we would probably need to do some of this leg work for them.

How far away is Matt Jefferson?
I saw that interview and found it interesting that he brought up the point that he had managed to avoid serious injury for the year, perhaps an indications of his mindset. I think it will take at least two more full preseasons to get his body and tank built up enough for AFL games. Can’t be easy to try and do both at the same time- put on muscle while increasing your aerobic ability.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Having listened to a couple of interviews Sanders has done since winning the Larke medal he seems to be good friend with Sheezel. If they get access to him I can’t see them going for McKercher as well as they are already stacked with midfield talent.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
I had wondered if we would consider dropping back if it improved our second pick. Perhaps pick up two out of O’Sullivan, Duursma, Wilson, Caddy or Sanders. Problem is that they’re possibly 4 players that are NGA or academy that could go in the top 10-12 so you don’t want to be too far back. GWS currently have picks 6&11 and probably the only team that could make it work.

Nice work SONS. Couple of questions for you. You have Moir higher than most of the other rankings, has hit hit a bit of form? Also have you seen much of Will Dawson and if so what your thoughts on him? I thought he looked pretty good in the two games he played in defence for Vic country.

2023 Injury List
God damn it. I was behind the goals today and had a great view of Pettys goal just after half time not long before he went off. It was a fantastic goal for lots of reasons- the ball looked like coming in just before hand and I watched him take his defender and then put body on Melksham defender to free up space for Melksham. When the ball wasn’t delivered he faked a lead and then led into space and took a great make before kicking a tough kick. Awesome goal. I turned to my partner and said if he plays like that for rest of season we win the flag. Two mins later I watched him hobble off ☹️

Holy moly, the pies( team of the century) season is starting to unravel a bit.

GAMEDAY: Rd 21 VS North Melbourne
On route to the waterfront now for a couple of pre game refreshments. Let’s hope for a better start than last time we played North here. We were behind at half time with Tommo doing his ACL in first quarter. Dees by 45 with Petty to kick 4. Edit. Just looked at the betting odds for the above. $11. I’ll have a bit of that I think.

I’ve got that warm fuzzy feeling. Pies looking very venerable at the wrong time of year. I really hope this is their style of play and long season catching up with them and not due to a loading block.

With no rotations left I don’t even want Hawks to kick away just yet. Keep the tempo up and ruin the the pies in the last 12 mins. Edit. They just kicked away😊

Are you sure? Walters is currently ranked number 2 and Read 8th by Cal but as we have seen in recent drafts academy and farther son picks tend to slide further as clubs know they won’t get them. Think Diacos and Tom Green. If they don’t slide and go 2&8 that’s around 4000 points but don’t they then get 20% discount? Making it around 3200 points. Unless I’m wrong and the discount only applies to Father/son picks.

Gold Coast currently hold the following picks in this draft 5, 25,31,41,54 59,61&77 which is equal to 4049 points which would be close to what they need for their academy players. Any deal with them will probably have to include a future first.

We can’t trade JJ as he’s a free agent.

I was already of the opinion that we must recruit a quality key defender via trade or the draft and that was before Petty’s breakout game at the weekend. If he can continue to play well we’ll up front then I think the need is even greater. I know we have Disco and Adam’s in the twos but are they going to provide the quality we need to replace May and Petty. Tommo has done ok since he came in but he’s close to the end and rumoured to be looking for a trade. A case could be made that we need to bring in a couple of Key defenders. If we trade for Reid I think we still have to have enough capital to snag a very talented key defender as well. So we either need Tim Lamb to works some serious magic to secure both or we need JT to be able to pick one up a bit later in the draft like he did with Petty.

PREGAME: Rd 21 vs North Melbourne
I’m happy for us to rest a couple of players against both North and the Hawks in a couple of weeks. Cats were able to do it last year and still win games and had players in great shape for finals. It’s not like we are resting them and bringing average players in. Hibberd, Grundy, Sparrow are quality replacements. If Sparrow isn’t fit this week I’d hold off until the Hawks game to rest Viney.

Agree, already looking good player. Has done well at centre bounces this last quarter. Can see why JT wanted him so badly.
