Farewell Brodie Grundy
Hope he stays but wouldn’t mind another death ride next year if he does go.

Mabior Chol
I mentioned him a few weeks back after watching him come on as a sub and have an impact. Think it’s sort of trade that could suit all parties. We get a key forward/Ruck that should have bigger impact than Shack or Weid to cover while Jefferson develops. Suns get him off their list as they have Walters and at least two other academy players coming in and he gets to join the premiers.

The GCS Pick 4 Thread
I wonder if another club is going to trump us for Suns pick 4 we might look to upgrade from 5 to 4. You would think 5&34 would get it done. Given the interest their will be in a top 5 pick the Suns will probably be able to get same trade done for 5 as they will for 4. Seems like there’s a top bracket of player in the first 5/6 picks. Moving up one spot might be the difference of getting the one we really want. Clearly having both 4&5 would be a better outcome.

The GCS Pick 4 Thread
Academy players tend to slide down the draft as teams know they won’t be getting them and keeping a club honest might come back to burn you in future drafts. Walters might go 2 but I’d expect the others to drop back a bit. Suns are already well stacked with picks and will be able to further spilt picks 28&31. Plus they will get more picks in if Flanders leaves They will still need to get a bit more draft capital to cover academy picks this year but I think they will be keener to get good picks for next years draft.

PREGAME: QF vs Collingwood
Agreed. If and it’s a massive if we could get peak Tmac for 3 games then it would be massive for our flag chances. Kinda feels like it’s lining up that way too with how everything has been timed. He normally needs a few weeks to get up and going after an injury and it sounds like he has been building form in the VFL. Will get another run this week. Goody in his post match presser gave the high performance team most of the credit for getting Fritter back in such good form. Let’s hope they also have another big win with Tmac’s form when we need it most.

PREGAME: QF vs Collingwood
Watched Goody on 360 last night. When asked about Tmac form. He said it was great to have him kicking goals but it’s his movement that they are most impressed with said he will definitely get his chance over the coming weeks. Edit just listened to what Goody said again-“ it’s not really the way he has performed, it’s the way he has moved, he’s back moving to his best, he’s injury free and feeling free in his body and Tom at his best is a really important player for us. He’s put himself in the selection mix and an opportunity is certainly going to come his way at some stage” Big praise from Goody

PREGAME: QF vs Collingwood
Bookmakers have Pies as $1.84. All the talk will be about them before the game. I’m fine with us being the underdog. Going to be a very tight close game but the way we have been running out final quarters over the past month has me confident we win a close one. Think this is huge. Winner wins the flag in my opinion. Can’t wait.

Jake Melksham Injury
Devastated for him. He’s been great tail end of the season and was looking like he might get the fairytale finish to his career. Instead it’s looking like nightmare finish. Seems wrong to just let him leave the club with his knee rooted. Could we delist him and then pick him up as a rookie? Or have him work with our forwards in some capacity?

Jake Melksham Injury
What a [censored] way to finish his career. Has been in great form and big chance to grab a premiership medal that would never been very deserved.

Harley Reid
I think a lot is going to depend on what package if any the AFL hand North. I hope they don’t get pick 3 for McKay. But if they get access to Sanders they will want as many picks in the top 6/7 as possible as they will want picks before someone calls his name out.

Trade Rumours 2023
I don’t think the Suns will struggle to get points for their academy players this year. If Flanders leaves then they would already have enough with their picks below pick 4. Picks 25&30 can be split to gain more points. If they get a late first round pick as part of the deal for pick 4/5 then they can also split that. It’s really about how attractive the future pick is to them and why other clubs might be well placed to get a deal done. If they could get a future first rounder from say the dogs it’s probably going to be a better first rounder than ours. We have a great draft hand and Lamb is brilliant and trading picks so I hope we do get their pick. Even if we don’t end up with their pick we could still get involved in the deal and get another top 10 pick. GWS, Cats, Dogs would all have an interest in trading up.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Agreed and some of those that go in top 10 will be academy players. Walters for sure, Sanders if North get access, Reid is a shout as well. Connor will probably go in the first 7/8 live picks. 4/5 might be a bit early to pick him so we are going to have to target another pick inside the top 10 to be a chance.

Welcome to Demonland: Trent Rivers
I do remember this being posted after that draft. I was hoping we went for Young instead of Jackson. I still rate Young very highly and would have him on a par with Jackson. But getting Rivers over 20 spots later in the draft shows how good a recruiter JT is. It’s why I’m so excited about our draft hand this year as it’s stronger than what we had in 2019.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
I don’t think the Sun would be happy with that deal- they can do a whole lot better than 400 points improvement with all the clubs that will be chasing that pick. I do like you’re thinking of getting involved in a 3 way deal and think we should absolutely go after GWS pick 7. Think our own first and future first along with pick 34 should get it done. GWS would then have more than enough to make a deal with the Suns. We would then have pick 4/5 and 7 plus pick 23/24. 7 would hopefully be enough to get COS Id like to see us hold onto pick 23/24. Although it will get pushed out closed out to pick 30 There seems to be a real blanket over the players anywhere between pick 15 and 30 this year. It also seems to be a bit of a sweet spot for JT and you would think one that he rates will slide to that pick.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Nice work @Nascent Couple of questions for you- 1. What do you think of Mabior Chol as a stop gap til Jefferson is ready. Saw him play the weekend which was his fist game in a lot of weeks- has falling down the pecking order and will probably fall fortune when Walters comes in. Suns could prob do with the list spot and freeing up some salary cap. 2.- Very comprehensive over view on our list in terms of positions but what are your thoughts on our attributes short comings- speed, endurance, height, marking ability, decision making and kicking ability? With overall athleticism becoming more of a factor in the modern game and being able to run out 4 quarters should we target someone like Darcy Wilson in the draft or look for better ball users than we currently have?

Harley Reid
Make things very interesting with what the AFL will now do with regards to a hand out to North. Can’t see them giving pick two for McKay as way overs and that would totally screw over WC as North would get Reid and Curtain. North not getting an extra pick at point end of first helps us. Also North now going to get Reid is there any point in them getting access to Sanders as they are already stacked with young talent in the middle.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
If we trade for Gold Coast first round pick we could pick him up with whatever pick ends up being our second assuming Curtain doesn’t slid. Agree with others that a quality back should be one of our priorities. In a perfect world the Suns will move up the ladder a couple of spots making their pick more obtainable for us and bang on where COS is likely to go. Cal has him at number 10 but there’s a chance that there could be 3 academy picks before him which brings him into about the 7th live pick. Can’t see him sliding to where our current second pick is.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
You’re probably right in terms of the type our list needs. We are well covered with Chandler and Kossie although the later may spend more time in the middle going forward. But what if Watson is best available at our pick and then there’s a bit of a drop off? Think Cal said he’s in the mix for the Hawks at pick 3( although Duursma’s form may have changed that).
