2025 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
i really like bridge or sharkie as HB options if we dont go farrow at 11 i actually think we shouldn't be selecting a mid this year, more so a player who could move in their down the line as it is a weaker draft and i think we have a lot of options still who can go in there, riv, koz, viney, windsor, langford, steele, even langdon has spent time at CBAs in the last 12 months but we can certainly improve other areas of the ground, most of our delisted players were actually HF/HB types as are the OOC bunch next year, meaning thats where we're likely to be cutting again so we would do well to get ahead of that now with some of these names at 37 or with our rookie pick. (fwiw i think we skip sinnema) the other name @spirit of norm smith has flagged is rory wright as a HB type who could move into the guts in time i also like the hetherton shout too as well but maybe the talls will be a focus next year after we lose potentially 3-4 off the list and given we have white coming in i think its unlikely we take a second tall this year as well (unless we take a rookie ruck like Marcus Krasnadamskis

Sam Cumming
could have fooled me that the highlights package at the top of this thread was a harley barker one not a sam cumming one, gee he looks good, shame about the acl as he seems a likely type and i'd be probably pushing pretty hard for him if he was fit

AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
the reason i can see us passing on dove or not reaching for him is if we think someone like talor byrne could provide a similar output, or if pickett got to us in the 30s, that pick is going to wildly swing around on the night, will come in as points are chewed up and then go out as bids push people back could land anywhere

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
i think i prefer NHH to Marsh, he seems to be a really good one touch player at ground level, the one player in our range that i have zero read on is probably cummings, i just assume he's a HB like Isaac cumming and need to actually go and watch some more vision of how he fits in, i think i'm coming around to the idea that CDT is going to slide Duursma -WCE Uwland matched GCS Robey - WCE Grjl -Rich patterson - matched GCS annable matched Bris CDT - Rich xav taylor - ess dean matched carl sharp - ess still leaves us with all the same names and no idea where we're looking

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
think everyone is scared after how the last two first round tall selections faired, not to mention lucas cook of course theres recent examples of high picks making it as key forwards see thilthorpe, curnow, daniher, hogan cadman, 2MP but theres also successful rookies, treacy, neale, larkey, mitch lewis, so maybe its time we start targetting that section of the draft for talls, was talking to a guy at work about talls in the draft and theres a direct correlation between tall forwards and defenders, has harry dean looked better this year because the tall forwards arent very good, has schubert looked better coz the best key defender is his teammate thredgold so he's not been challenged and just dominated smaller bodies. i think its too much of a gamble

Sullivan Robey
said on gettable he is a dons fan, so do we have to get ahead of them, theyve got a spot for him in the guts with hobbs delisting, straight away goes past plenty of their other options too

Sullivan Robey
i said this in a different thread but both duursma's drafted interstate already have moved home, i would not be taking the risk on willem if im the eagles, 3 year draft contract too, theyll have he and harley both OOC at the same time, if they both left it would genuinely kill the entire rebuild before its even started. you just have to be honest with your members and say look teh family has form, we back our culture but this kid isnt worth the risk we're taking a guy instead who we have far more confidence in staying the journey

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
how would you compare his game to say chandlers who has played that small forward role for 3 years now, as the pressure player i50, only this year he graduated out of that somewhat out of necessity with ANB departure and spargos injuries but i dont see anything in dovastons game that doesnt suggest he cant develop a nicer kick, he'll get stronger and quicker and be able to break tackles and get into space around the ground better giving himself more time to kick

Sam Grlj
the more i think about it the more i agree especially as he played in richmonds vfl side WCE: Duursma CDT Rich: Robey Grjl Ess: XTaylor, Sharp? i really don't know where that leaves us i kind of dont like where we sit at all, would love to be at 5 and 15 so much more i think, maybe we pick one and then slide back when someone else really likes whats left over NHH, Farrow, Lindsay if we are to slide, i think the Dons bid on Dean, swallows pick 9 and the blues 11 gets pushed back and we offer them GC F1 to move back and then sell one of ours for a future pick elsewhere to get the Dove

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
think port have dougie cochrane as a top 2 pick too Richmond Next Generation Academy prospect Tanner Armstrong had 25 disposals and seven clearances on GF day in the futures game Hodge, who has the choice between Brisbane Academy and Hawthorn as a father-son, had 16 touches and a goal in the game as father Luke watched on in the stands. Aidan McCartney also played he's FS to North but also in the Swans academy (dad works at the giants now)

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
my concern is with his disposal, i think hes super clean with his hands when he goes and gets it and but i dont think he uses it super well or gets into clean enough positions to have the time and space to use it well, that being said i see the bones of why he's rated i wonder if jack dalton is someone teams will look at as a keays/nibbler/miers type of player, 177cm so probably not a mid but has a tank but probably isnt a mecurial goal kicker either

AFL Draft 2025: Pick 30 (formerly 37)
Pickett Talor Byrne Rory Wright one of the SA runners? LeRay, Barker?
-
Farewell Taj Woewodin
he played HB in 2024, after initially being played across HF, and then this year he went back to inside mid at casey and didnt dominate or star there

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
think this sharp and greeves scare me theyre 2012-2022 coded midfleiders, they win teh ball yes but they cant kick, langford is our guy for that going forward and rivers offers enough too, we need class and composure, players who can use the ball inside and out. greeves certainly doesnt impact scoreboard like robey does, sharp has done it a few times but wouldnt rely on it thats why grjl is sp maybe @spirit of norm smith man rory wright or is that a reach there? would be a nice HB/mid option but also could be a lockdown small in time too, dont think there is any concern about "matching" the kalani bid, will fall to us as woey did at the end of proceedings with our last live selection or talor byrne if we go NHH, didnt realise he trained with us in PS that also makes him a likely JT selection, especially if we think dovaston is a reach at 8

one year younger than florent for 110 less games, he was a catb rookie but still, thats only 10 more games than judd in 4 more years

Realistic 23 for 2026
isnt that the same lack of space that has generated no seperation from defenders coupled with a lack of leap that has hindered him as a forward

i mean this is just the biggest stab in the dark of all time, presuming to know something that you actually have no knowledge of because it suits the narative you're spinning

i would move woey on and take 7,8,37, kalani at the draft and then jackson voss or mcfadyen (lions academy) as a rookie as needs based players voss replaces mcvee and covers for salem/amw and offers some immediate depth down back with lots of our existing options playing up the ground and mcfadyen could play the mcadam fritsch melky role hes 189cm, like a better noah yze, more agile, similar to hayward i'd say maybe without all of the pace
