The fans who are there today after 8 straight years of this crap deserve a medal. I don't blame them for booing. Not when the same losers keep serving up the same tripe week after week. Enough is enough.

We've all seen some pretty bad losses over the years, too many to count, but this one is going to take the cake. We all support a bunch of [censored] losers. Sick of them ruining my weekend time and time again.

If you look at Paul Roos' trading history, you would see that he has a VERY high strike rate with it. Moreover, you would see that he's not a big believer in draft picks, often trading out first round picks for average footballers. He then turned those average footballers into important role players. Some have even gone on to become AA. My point is, there's no way in hell Roos will trade out Watts, Toumpas, Grimes or Trengove for speculative draft picks. And nor should he.

And to think how much we bang on about priority picks, and how they're the difference between success and failure. This guy was the last pick in the rookie draft last year. He'd be the first picked defender if we were playing a final tomorrow. Full credit to him. If every player tackled with his tenacity, attacked every contest and stuck to their limitations the same way, we'd be flag favourites!

I didn't see the game. 50 points sounds like a fairly predictable margin given where the two sides are at, and it sounds like we had a real dip for most of the game, so that's a + What really upsets me is that even on a day where we "came to play", so to speak, the margin was still 50 points. It's now 8 straight years (in pre season and real games) that the Hawks have made games against us into men vs boys. It doesn't look like changing any time soon, either. I'm so bloody tired of getting flogged by them (Geelong too). The other side of my family are all Hawk supporters. Honestly, they don't know how good they've got it.

He wouldn't have a field day playing on arguably the in-form small defender in the competition - Neville Jetta - who was overlooked 100+ times in last years drafts. He was the last pick in the rookie draft, IIRC. Dean Kent was pick 48 but looks a better prospect than Toumpas (pick 4) and others taken in the early rounds. Just proves the point of the poster above who says recruiting is far from an exact science and never will be.

GOODBYE MR. CHIP FRAWLEY
Bang Bang Bang replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
So I take it you know him personally then? -
I don't think you should be painting Jetta and Riley with the same brush! Jetta has well-and-truly cemented his spot, he would be close to first picked. Riley on the other hand... everyone makes mistakes but AFL players don't make the kind of mistakes we saw from him today. He probably deserves a pre-season and a (tentative) one-year extension, but if he's cut I certainly wouldn't lose sleep over it!

I'm just glad we took Salem over Freeman, who has spent the ENTIRE year out with a hamstring injury. Just imagine the meltdown on here if we'd gone down the other path.....

IMO that was the WORST decision I've seen made by a Melbourne player this season (and that's saying a lot). He was 50m out so could have had a shot for goal. If he's not confident from that range, fine, kick it to the hotspot. But no, let's loop a 15m sideways pass onto the head of a guy that's manned up, 178cm tall and with no overhead marking ability (sorry Jack). Turnover, Lions goal. Adelaide got rid of him for a reason... useless!

pick 2 or pick 3 is way overs for Frawley, so I wouldn't be holding my breath about the AFL coughing up a priority pick on top of that. Despite the disaster than unfolded today we have probably shown enough improvement and been competitive (at least on the scoreboard) in most games, 4 wins and 7 losses under 20 points. We won't get one.

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 19
Bang Bang Bang replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6 - Howe 5 - Jetta 4 - Tyson 3 - Jones 2 - McDonald 1 - Dunn -
Extrememly harsh on Jetta! He gave Green a bath, near impossible to tackle, tackles with vigour, picks the right options. He has been a revelation. I thought Tyson was good too, and used the ball better today than in the past. The rest, pretty accurate. Vince played like a millionaire today.

It's hard to stomach at the moment. A good friend of mine is a die-hard Geelong fan. I remember back in 2005 and 2006 both our sides were top 8 teams and good to watch, since then Geelong have just gone out and won every week, Melbourne have gone out lose every week. And that's barely exaggerating. It's not fair! Paul Roos has his work cut out if he wants to rid this club of its losing culture. We MUST go hard in trade week and nail this off-season. The club won't survive for too many more years if we don't.

I don't get to see every game of every round but this has to be, hands down, the worst game of the year. Get absolutely [censored]!!!! Is Riley taking the mickey out there? Thank god for Tyson, all class! Go Dees!

Chasing a once-in-a-lifetime deal is OK, although my personal (and perhaps biased) opinion is that it was a cheeky thing to do so early in his career. It's the way he handled the whole thing that stunk. Both during and afterwards - coming out in the media and potting the club for it's incompentence. I don't begrudge Sylvia, Rivers, even Scott Thompson (and soon to be Frawley) for moving on. Scully, on the other hand can get stuffed.
-
He has always been inconsistent but he had a breakout game against the Hawks in mid-2009. 40 touches and 4 goals in a losing side. For around two years after that he was an absolute gun when in-form. 2010 being his best year. IMO, he has followed a pretty similar career-path to Travis Johnstone. Both frustrated fans for a decade with their work-ethic and inconsistency but had undoubted talent. Both left the club in their twilight years and played forgettable football for their new clubs. And best of all, both netted us handsome compensation (Jack Grimes, and Bernie Vince). For that reason, I harbor no ill feelings towards either of them.

Not like he's going to read it. This is a discussion forum. I paid the guy his dues in the second half of my post anyway. It's not his fault Neeld and co chased his signature.
-
A terrible signing, diluted our FA compo for Rivers/Moloney and provided bugger all on the field. However, he seemed like a good clubman and got every last bit out of his talent at Geelong. 131 games is nothing to sneeze at. Good luck to him.

GOODBYE MR. CHIP FRAWLEY
Bang Bang Bang replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
You guys are underselling Higgins a bit. Injury prone - yes, but a very good player when fit. I wouldn't mind him at the Dees, truth be told. He was the pick before Nathan Jones back in 2005 so he can't be that old, still got some good footy in him. -
Paul Roos signs for third year
Bang Bang Bang replied to Its Time for Another's topic in Melbourne Demons
I like Bomber Thompson and his record speaks for itself, but I really struggle to see how he fits in going forward. I thought the whole point of Roos signing with us was to teach the players the "Roos-mantra" over his tenure, and groom a successor to carry on the "Roos-mantra" after he left. Similar to his final years in Sydney. Bomber Thompson would have his own coaching mantra, a successful one YES, but clearly it will be different to Roos'. I'm not saying it's a bad thing if he signs on, just intrigued as to how it would work. -
Paul Roos signs for third year
Bang Bang Bang replied to Its Time for Another's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sounds very similar to Neeld's "Ocean Grove" resume, tbh. -
I thought Vince was a good signing at the time, however I expected him to be "like for like" for Sylvia in terms of consistency. I was wrong. He has been a great signing and has more or less been contributing every week. Getting him for pick 23 (or as a straight swap for Sylvia, if you want to look at it that way) was a bargain.
-
Fair enough but I still think they deserve a 4-week block to see if they can make it at AFL level. I thought Blease was OK today but haven't checked the stats, and Tapscott never gets much of it (which is a concern) but what he does do is good. Jetta had an ordinary first game back against Sydney earlier in the year, and most thought his papers would be stamped, but Roos gave him a nice block to show his worth and we all know what has happened since then. I hope the same treatment is given to Blease and Tapscott.
-
They both should get at least a few more weeks to see if they're up to it. I said it earlier in the thread, but Blease is an upgrade on M.Jones and Tapscott is an upgrade on Terlich... even if their impact only comes in patches.
