  1. Well personally I think the Doggies deserved their win. It was always shaping as a game that would go right down to the final 10 minutes, and when it did the Dogs took their chances (the soft free didn't help our cause) and we didn't. Unfortunately in these games there's always going to be one loser and last night it had to be us. Two in a row would have been so good, probably the main reason I'm gutted. Doggies fans with me after the game were trotting out the "can't believe we nearly lost to Melbourne" lines... opposition fans are a bit slow to catch on - this is a different team to 2008-13 Melbourne. Opposing sides have to work hard to beat us now. Individual player thoughts: Tyson: Wow! Has played good games for us already but last night was something else. Going to be a legit A-grader down the track. Salem: Can already see he looks comfortable, seems to always be in the right spot, hard-at-it and a good kick. Has earnt a full game next week. (How absurdly bad does that Josh Kelly article from a few weeks back look now?) Byrnes: echo the thoughts of most. Waste of space at the minute. Bring Kent back next week.
  2. Faith in future of AFL, restored.
  3. I thought that too - but he was pretty accurate with Jesse Hogan scoops on 2 seperate occassions this season, makes me think he has a source within the club and that maybe the appeal is ready to be lodged. Can only hope!
  4. For what it's worth Barrett tweeted 20 minutes ago that we are "looking to appeal".
  5. I reckon social media would almost literally burn down if it got drawn out to 4 matches after appeal. I think we will appeal tomorrow. The AFL will be torn between not wanting to buckle to public demand, and doing the right thing. I think the stubbornness of the AFL will win out and the 2 weeks will stand.
  6. Deledio escapes with a reprimand...
  7. Unbelievable arrogance, especially from Dwayne who was mediocre at best! Besides, I would like to steer them towards some of the tweets coming from Mark Ricciuto, Cam Mooney, Jude Bolton, three of the hardest players to have played the game, just to name a few.
  8. Daniel Cross too.
  9. His lack of size (173cm, 68kg) would have thrown the recruiters off, I think. What we've learnt from JKH so far is that there's no substitute in this game for class. IMO, it won't be long before these types start getting drafted in the first round again.
  10. Like most, I don't think he should have a case to answer. I hope we go there tomorrow all guns blazing with a clear defence. It will need to be better than the Trengove effort a few years back, when our defence was Kelly O'Donnell (or some other no-name assistant from the club) "the club told Jack it was a perfect tackle." Very sloppy. On the bright side - Deledio probably won't be there when we play Richmond. He was offered 1 game and they have the Bye this week.
  11. They are elite players in that position, there are also players like Kyle Cheney getting games at Hawthorn. Terlich's disposal errors are a worry (so much so, that I wanted him dropped after Carlton game) ... but his approach suits the Roos gameplan. He's a keeper for now.
  12. At the moment, he reminds me of a poor man's Simon Black, with a touch of Scott Pendlebury. Now I don't expect him to reach the level of either (we are talking about two of the best players this century), but he's playing exactly the way you hope a Top 3 pick would. I'm a big fan.
  13. I'll answer my own question Average score conceded, Rd 1-7 2013: 136 Average score conceded, Rd 1-7 2014: 78 So on average, we are conceding 58 points less every game than at the same time last year. Last year, every team from Rd 1-7 kicked 100+ points against us. This year, that has happened only once. We are still bottom 4 on talent but we are miserly, and as Roos said, a good defensive structure will allow us to win games like today. I love Paul Roos footy.
  14. How do you gauge this? Pederson and Jetta were good today, yet most had them labelled 'not AFL standard' not long ago. There are senior roles there for most of the guys at Casey.
  15. How does our avg points against compare this year to Rounds 1-7 last year?
  16. Our first win in South Australia after 13 years and 17 straight losses, many of which were in excess of 50 points. The Crows of 2014 may not be world-beaters but for me this is a landmark achievement that will do wonders for the confidence of the team (especially the older ones).
  17. I think Al Clarkson would have something to say about that, but our guy is right up there. We're not easy beats anymore.
  18. Great highlights, and how about the leadership shown by the big fella when Watts neutralised Dangerfield over the boundary line late in the game. I knew we'd be hard to beat from that point. Passion!
  19. 6 - Dawes: it was a team effort but this guy was far and away BOG, IMO. The goal-kicking, the presence, the tackle, the leadership. Amazing. 5 - Tyson 4 - Viney 3 - JKH 2 - Terlich 1 - Cross Apologies to most of the team. One of the most satisfying victories of the past decade for mine (I know there haven't been many). To beat the Crows on their own turf in front of 50,000 of their feral fans, delightful.
  20. Disappointing to see Salem sub again, although it looks a clear strategy from Roos and co, young players will be eased into it regardless of early form (JKH got the same treatment early on).
  21. Fox Footy coverage starts at 4.30pm. The game itself is due to start at 4.10pm. Are we going to miss the start of the game or will there be a "red button" available? I'm new to Foxtel this year.
  22. Most in the footy world suspect Scully signed with them at the end of 2010. At that time, he was coming off 400+ disposals in his debut season and runner-up in the Rising Star. What GWS probably didn't bank on where his limitations then (skinny, average footskills, overhead marking, goal-kicking) would still be limitations 5 years down the track. Sometimes young players appear to have high ceilings at draft time simply don't end up improving much on their teenage years. Scully is an example of that, IMO.
  23. Sidebottom was a good get at 11 though. I think if we had our time again and got a free pass to select anyone from that top 10, I'd go for Hartlett.
  24. I can accept that injuries happen, setbacks happen and young players like Hogan need to be treated carefully. That's footy. What I don't accept or like is that the club were clearly aware of the setback at the time of Misson's last injury update (and the time this thread was made). Instead of addressing the issue and informing the members of his condition, they conveniently leave Hogan out of the report altogether, instead letting us find out the bad news from Damian [censored] Barrett several days later. Not really good enough...
  25. Really like Salem, I remember reading somewhere that the Hawks were big fans before draft time, can see why. He's looks a Hawthorn-type, hard at it, balanced, and left-footed. Looking forward to seeing more of him. Roos is doing a pretty good job, there's no way we would have lost to a team like Sydney by 30 points this time last year. But I have to wonder how often we'll be able to kick a winning score.
