  1. ‘Top 5 Players’ makes the criteria very unclear, but if he’s saying the current top performing or in-form players, then the only one I’d strongly disagree with is Dangerfield.
  2. My boys were talking about getting 37, but I’m worried Kade may be offered a lower number now that he’s tearing it up. Number 2 could be a solid investment in the future… hopefully 36 is as well.
  3. Always thought he was a (at best) a blue-collar, high effort toiler who could apply some tackling pressure and perhaps play a defensive forward role. Was surprised he rebuked Adelaide’s advances as I didn’t see a lot of games for him at the Dees. I’ve been stunned this year by his skills and creativity. Great passing skills, awareness, aerobic fitness and finishing skills. A genuine weapon. All of this in addition to him seemingly being a genuinely nice guy!
  4. I almost thought that was a joke at the time. A sort of ‘funny because it’s so wrong’ thing. Glad it stopped. The only time I remember Melbourne fans booing someone who hadn’t left the club was when we played Adelaide at the G in 2009 and Nathan Bock had recently been accused / charged with domestic violence.
  5. Did any other teams boo Scully in ‘solidarity’ with us..? That’s the weird part.
  6. This is the best I’ve seen him play. When he hits the ball at speed you get a glimpse of the player he’ll become.
  7. Never in doubt; great clubman and teammate.
  8. As Melbourne supporters, we spent most of our time during his peak years trying to highlight his faults so we could win the Gawn v Grundy debates. Always knew he was a great player - just never wanted to admit it until this year.
  9. Probably the most promising statement I’ve heard regarding a permanent home for the club. To hear a third party speak about our interest and their needing a partner is very, very refreshing.
  10. If he's chasing a premiership and he's willing play for very little money to get to a contender. Sure!
  11. Hawthorn has been willing to leave their ‘traditional’ heartland. Twice. I have no love for the Hawks, but they repeatedly make the right decisions for the long term. We stubbornly want to magically create land in an area that won’t sacrifice an inch of public parklands or remove a single tree.
  12. Been watching closely since '94 and have seen some amazing forwardlines, but only recently have we had great backlines and midfields. In that time we've had an amazing run of All Australian rucks with Stynes, White, Jamar and Gawn, but could only field two. Apologies to Robertson, Jakovich, Ingerson, White, Whealan, Johnstone, Pickett, B.Lovett, Langdon and J.Viney. LEVER. MAY. JETTA. SALEM. FRAWLEY. S.FEBEY. TINGAY. T.VINEY. GREEN. LYON. SCHWARZ. YZE. FRITSCH. NEITZ. FARMER. GAWN. PETRACCA. OLIVER. Int. STYNES. BRUCE. WOEWODIN. JONES. Sub: DAVEY.
  13. I have no problem with an extra player on the bench, makes no difference to me and further incentivises teams to take concussions seriously. Don't like the sub, in any of its forms.
  14. 6. Viney 5. Grundy 4. McDonald 3. Oliver 2. Petracca 1. Rivers
  15. I think we'd be able to at least send them a top 5 pick this year and a very early second...
  16. Melksham to the VFL to play a whole match. Sparrow to the sub this week. Picket to the starting 22.
  17. Gameday Thread is nuts! Passionate, but nuts. It’s like a stream of consciousness digging into our collective insecurities. Usually reads like we’re getting smashed by 10 goals, even when we’re winning. I don’t really check it much anymore but no one should apologise for what they’ve written there.
  18. Both played in Round 1. Would be shocked in Chandler’s dropped. Worst case scenario would be made the sub.
  19. We’ve consistently struggled against the Swans since about 1993.
  20. The problem with discussions on tanking is that there is no standard definition in the AFL community for what exactly ‘tanking’ is. Each expert, commentator and fan seems to have their own definition meaning people can be right and wrong at the same time.
  21. FWIW… AFL media has Freo’s draw ranked the equal most difficult and FoxFooty has it ranked the 4th most difficult. Its starts out easy and gets tough in the second half. They were expected to easily bank the first two games.
  22. I think Jackson has the potential to be one of the better players in the league but, as we know, environment and culture are huge factors in developing talent. Fremantle has a poor record of developing imported talent. It may be the club, the city, the perth media or the fact that they repeatedly pay a huge price in salary and picks for ‘savours’. The pressure and expectation is immense and the likelihood of disrupting the harmony of a playing list is high. They trade away role players to make room for big names. Their recent drafting has been strong and they’ve brought in solid lesser name trades, but the big fish seem to come back to bite them. Hogan, Bennell, McCarthy, Lobb… Jackson?
  23. I’m gonna remain confident that he’s avoided a worst case scenario. There’s not enough media noise for me to think otherwise - the media always seems to get a leak or a tip on a serious injury to a star. Max’s injury has been overshadowed by the power outage, but there’s still not enough noise for me to think it’s worse that a medial (which is still pretty bad). Bring on Schache for 6 - 8!
