  1. I applaud your bravery in starting this thread Dazzle. FWIW, as a free agent, if the price was reasonable, I would sign Vickery. He would instantly be our best option as a part time ruck, part time forward. As maligned as he is (and often deservedly so) his best football is very, very good. Maybe a new environment would bring that out of him in a consistent fashion. We sacrifice nothing in free agency other than some money; if the price is right, I say get him.
  2. No unforced changes for this week. Especially wanna see ANB get an extended run on the seniors.
  3. I don't necessarily disagree with the first paragraphs, but the second one is both unfair and simply not true. Oscar is so unfairly maligned on here that some people would only find his performance acceptable if the opposition kicked zero goals. Every time the opposition kicks a goal, Demonland looks for someone to blame, as though keeping a clean sheet is even possible in this game.
  4. Should have known better than to check in to a Gameday thread... Might just go back to enjoying a match in which we are playing great footy.
  5. A shame that he hasn't developed in the way we had hoped he'd would. Was one of the most promising up and comers in the league 2010-2012. I have no doubt that he'll be picked up next year by another team; decent player, strong leader and clubman. A team like Brisbane could use someone like Grimes around. Wish him all the best.
  6. On a side note, the soft drink he was having strikes me as very strange. I suppose I was under the impression that the players were very regimented in what they ate/drank. 4 kg of soft drink weight sound like something I'd be lugging around. Was surprised to see one MFC player eating a meat pie at the match on Sunday, while another ate a box of hot chips. No doubt this is some new 'sport science' approved approach to rehab... But it was very strange to see.
  7. I would hope that the negativity relating to Brayshaw was only due to the immediate disappointment of losing the game. His two changers were horrendous but were more an indication that he hadn't quite made the full mental transition from VFL to AFL. He, along with Oliver, are two of the most natural, fast thinking footballers on our list. Gus in the guts for 2017-2030 will be huge for the MFC.
  8. I feel he's been played out of position his entire time at MFC. He was recruited as a hard, inside, accumulating mid. He seemingly is played nowadays as a third tall. Lets spend the remaining rounds seeing if he can do what he was recruited to do; get him in the guts.
  9. Looking at the formatting of this post, it looks like Trac is asking about Garlands whereabouts... In answer to your (or Christian's) question, he's progressing in the twos)
  10. I agree with the sentiments, but o think we need to maintain the selection standards and select on merit over potential. If a young player is playing well, then their age should not prohibit their selection in the seniors. I would expect Hunt, Harmes, Stetch, Oliver and co to play the majority of the games anyway as the football department has already demonstrated a willingness to field young and inexperienced teams. In regards to Weid and Hullett though, I would be reluctant to field them, even for the possible benefits of 'having a taste'. We can already see on their development at Casey that there is plenty to work with for next year. I'd leave them there to play and develop away from the rigours of senior footy. It's a massive leap in size, speed and impact and it's already been a long season on their maturing frames. Im somewhat more interested in having one last look at a few players who may be on the block for next year.
  11. It would certainly explain how the story is consistently that he is going to Freo and not west Coast. He doesn't post much on social media, probably learnt a pretty harsh lesson from that one.
  12. I'll give it til the 20 minute mark of the first quarter before 'the usuals' call for his retirement. Great to have him back - there is a long list of players who have saved their seemingly lost careers with only a few games to go.
  13. Very interesting to hear to listen to that insight. Sheds some light on the recruiters mindest - there was a lot of criticism on here that we took him in the national draft and didn't rookie him instead. Sounds like there was some interest from Freo in particular. Very happy we have Hunt, exactly the dynamic player we need.
  14. Fair enough - but much of that comes during the matches when people see him in the flesh. When the conversation comes up during the week of who the young guns in the league are, Hunt is rarely considered. For example, he is not considered in this article as a player who may get a RS nomination in the remaining matches of 2016: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/sydney/when-will-callum-mills-get-a-rising-star-nomination/news-story/c6de7b80811bc48e3173c1bd71af1126
  15. Agreed - fast becoming a fan favorite. The football public will really start to give him credit when they see him playing against their own team - doesn't get any love from commentators or the broader media. If he was a high draft pick, the football world would be in meltdown over him.
  16. Hopefully their bus travels via the Montague Bridge.
  17. I'm resigned to Grimes leaving at the end of the year and am sure that someone will pick him up. I do think however that we would be somewhat negligent if we didn't give him a few games to make certain that there's no place for him in the team. I know he's had '98 chances' but there is talent there and he's been performing well at VFL level; I would hope we were absolutely 100% sure before we let him go as a FA for, what will eventually be, no return on investment.
  18. Shane Warne could spin a ball at right angles on a pane of glass... that's kinda where his talent ends. I would think you'd need 13-14 to make the 8 this year and StKilda are too hot'n'cold to make confident predictions about any of those games. They're building, but they're not there yet.
  19. So you don't rate StKilda defeating Geelong by that logic.
  20. Don't agree. They're below us on the ladder, west coast beat them by over 100 and Adelaide by 90 odd. They, like us, are young and inconsistent; some weeks they're world beaters, some weeks they don't come to play. Great win by the saints, but I'd take where our list, coaches and admin are over theirs.
  21. Jeremy Howe. Playing in the forward line in front of big crowds...
  22. Click bait - it's a pretty boring free agency pool this year.
  23. I can imagine Stevie J and even Chapman not being interested, and SJ choice is probably vindicated. Kelly though was retired unitl January as he's a top up player. I think we might have missed one there (along with most clubs).
  24. I don't really agree that we need to be importing our leadership anymore, however i see Stevie J, James Kelly and even Chapman from a couple of years back and wondering if there were any inquiries made at all. Kelly in particular is playing exceptional football and was a delisted free agent.
  25. Did they rate him as a B grader? They were going to get pick 12. He did knock on the door of our best 22... in fact he beat relentlessly on it for weeks on end with outstanding performances in the VFL. Credit where credit is due; it's not nostalgia that sees him in the team at the moment, it's consistent good performances at Casey.
