As disappointing as it is, I'm glad it's done. If Schofield had of got two weeks, it'd dominate discussion for the next three weeks. The footy media being what it is, it now won't be mentioned after the next two days. Clarry is a gun player, he will not be universally loved, in fact, opposition supporters will take any opportunity to hate him. This is a good thing; we've got a star on our hands.

Not guilty

I don't see many people on either side having their minds changed by tonight's hearing.
-
Their entire case rests on the notion that Oliver exaggerated the contact.
-
Doesn't mean they can't talk about him.
-
If he's speaking like this to the ump... clarry might be in for a bit of a battering.
-
They're calling the umpire a liar and showing pictures on his phone that apparently show the umpire looking elsewhere. All sounds pretty seedy by the WCE lawyer...

Must say I'm a little bit surprised that it's come at this stage of the season- but good on him! Clearly a player Goodwin sees great potential in. (That clown that sent that letter to David Schwartz would be livid!)

His game on the weekend was incredible, but I don't correlate that to him being captain, just like I didn't see the connection between his early season form and the co-captaincy. I stand by my view that it was unnecessary to appoint him co-captain at this stage of his career. As vice captain he still would have led the team on the weekend in Jones' absence and would have played just as well. A player like Viney doesn't play the way he does because of a title, he plays that way because it's the only way he knows how.

Will feel a lot better when the MRP says he has no case to answer.

I can only see forced changes, and fingers crossed, it's only the two: OUT: Salem, Gartlett. IN: Watts - assuming he's fit after being close to selection this week. Wagner - travelling emergency this week, good form in VFL and the coaches love him. He's a lock IMHO.

Grimes had a few serious injuries in his early years at the club and was never able to get a good run at his football. His development lacked continuity in matches, coaching and even positional continuity. While he showed promise as a half back, Neeld wanted him in the midfield and interrupted that element of his development. Grimes was, at the time, considered one of the most promising up-and-comers in the league. I'm not sold that it was the captaincy that led to his demise, but it certainly didn't help.

I would like to see either a bye after the Darwin match or two games played in Alice Springs. The weather there seems to lack the humidity of Darwin at that time of year.
-
Amazing that he's still on our list. There was years of outrage when he was signed on for three years initially. He has been emmense this year and McDonald aside, was a match winner in the last quarter.
-
I'd say that's because every week he plays, his contract is ticking up, up and up. Having a great season.

Here's Richie Benaud's 8 Rules of commentary that the AFL boys club might want to have a look at some day, in between patting each other on the back... Never ask for a statement. Remember the value of a pause. There are no teams in the world called 'we' or 'they'. Avoid cliches and banalities, such as 'he's hit that to the boundary', 'he won't want to get out now', 'of course', 'as you can see on the screen'. The Titanic was a tragedy, the Ethiopian drought a disaster, and neither bears any relation to a dropped catch. Put your brain into gear before opening your mouth. Concentrate fiercely at all times. Above all, don't take yourself too seriously, and have fun.

A cowpat would look good in a Melbourne jumper! But on Merret, it's amazing that this day in age, with the investments by clubs in recruiting and junior development, that a player of that quality can slide so far in a draft.

Christian Salem signs on for 2 more years
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to What's topic in Melbourne Demons
Love him. It's such a luxury to have a player like that on the half-backline too. Reminds me a bit of James Kelly at Geelong in that respect; easily capable of being a very good player in the midfield, but playing off halfback where we need his skillset even more. -
Prior to the first bounce against Pt Adelaide in the preseason last year, his trade value was a top 3 pick, and even then he would have been considered 'untouchable'. Some terrible luck, underdone preparation and concussion this year has seen his trade 'value' plummet. Luck can change, fitness can improve and there's every chance he can move on from his concussion issues. There's no way we'd get anywhere near his value in return and there's every chance he'll still become the player he showed he could be.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 14
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
One of those guys who always seems to carve us up, very happy to see the back of him. Unfortunately he's replaced by Josh Hill, another in a long line of D-graders we've made look like Hall-of-Famers in the past. -
I never would have thought that he'd played more games for Freo than us. I would think that in the eyes of most people, he's a Dee.

"I'd love to end my career a one-club player, and I anticipate that will be the case."
-
What excuse are departing players going to use when they don't want to sign their contract now??
-
I can't see how Watts and Jones could play this week. At any rate, I can't see the club risking either of them is there's a chance of further soft tissue injury.
