Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to stevethemanjordan's topic in Melbourne Demons
I had a cheeky peek too. Most are resigned to him leaving and saw decent value in the Frost + a pick proposal. -
It's hard to ignore the realities of their situations. Both fill a need, and Kelly is clearly the better player. However it's too difficult to ignore the fact that Kelly would be immensely more expensive in both trade and salary. With that in mind - Lever offers more bang for buck.

Nowadays that sometimes all you need to do. Hunt does offer that element to our side, Frost however would overtake Hibberd at a canter. -

In terms of quality as a stand alone player, spot on. However when putting a backline together, ideally you're looking for a variety of complimentary skillsets. Frost's strengths are his speed, athleticism and ability to break the lines; his weakness is his disposal. In a more technically skilful backline such as Adelaide's, Frost could excel by complimenting the players they already have. -

Agreed, but the truth of the matter is you need to give something of quality to get quality in return. I quite like how our backline is shaping up, and Frost possesses athletic qualities that simply cannot be replaced. However, I cannot deny that Lever is at a standard and quality that not many on our list possess. -
I think even the receptionists may as well clean out their desks too - complete clean out. (with the exception of N.Buckley and E.McGuire)

There is nothing more certain than them retaining Buckley; win, lose or draw. Heads will roll all around him, but not his.

Here seems as good a place as any to post this question / observation... I've been living overseas for the last four years and can generally only get back to Melbourne for one match a year (this year being the Melbourne v Port Adelaide triumph). Something that struck me at the end of this match was that the players only ran to acknowledge the fans in half the ground. When I expressed my surprise, my dad said 'yeah, they don't come over here anymore.' I have great memories of high fiving players, congratulating them up close and carrying my little sister down to the fence to see the players who came over our way. Must say I was a little disappointed that only half the ground was acknowledged. Does anyone know if this is the new norm and what possible reason there could be for this decision if it wasn't a simple oversight...?

I see your point, but I just can't for the life of me see the Eagles beating the Crows. Unlike previous years, Adelaide need to give their best team a good run wrote the bye. There's no more testing players or taking their foot off the accelerator.

Port and Swans to win this weekend. Tigers to lose to Saints. We'll play Richmond at the G.

Those adversarial days are more or less in the past. Nowadays you beat teams through a team defence. If your midfield dominates and pressures the ball carrier, you starve the opposition forwards of quality entries. -

There would need to be picks involved for that to happen IMHO. Adelaide losing Lever and getting only Gibbs in return is daylight robbery. Melbourne losing Watts and gaining Lever is also weighted far too heavily in our favour. -
Would be tragic if Watts missed the finals after everything he, and the club has been through. Did Goodwin suggest it was form or attitude??
-
Next weekend get him a copy of Spaceballs!
-
I think we've missed Watts, especially today. However, that's an in-form Watts so if he's ticked the boxes with the coaches, then he's a must to get a run before the finals. Same goes for Salem. If he's in our finals plans, he may need the run as he missed this week due to suspension and then there's the bye the week after. My understanding is that Goodwin has already ruled out Viney for next week so Billy can have another week to possibly hit his stride. Wagner has seemed off the pace this year and makes way. If he struggling for touch and space against Brisbane, then he's not ready for finals pressure.

The Cam Pedersen Appreciation Thread

Kinda glad that Neeld gave him that 'stupid' 'ridiculous' 'idiotic' 'absurd' three year deal... -
Agree with half of this. Clay Beams was certainly at fault as he dived head first into Bernie knees, attempting to draw a free kick. The problem with the Dayne incident is that Bernie took his eyes off the ball when going back with the flight - eyes on the ball, then there'd be no problem. With that said, I don't think he has any case to answer. The forearm was careless rather than malicious, and a quick peek at the stats will tell you that Beams was hardly impeded by the knock.

I think betting agencies would love Clarry to win - all the money's been poured into Dangerfield and Martin. Only a handful of Melbourne supporters would think he has any chance.
-
Not sure he's ever been a walk up start in the seniors... in fact, one of the most frustrating parts of his brain-fart was that we'd already been decimated by injuries.
-
Not concerned about the Weed at all. He demonstrates the desire, commitment and talent to be a good KPF for us going forward. Im a little disappointed that he was playing this week, truth be told. Would hve been happy for him to continue playing at VFL level for the remainder of the year where he was stringing together a good run of matches.

Aaron vandenBerg Re-signs for 2018
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
Would still love to see him build his tank and play at the centre bounce- I think we haven't seen close to what he's capable of. -
Genuinely shocked to hear him being rated on this site! He is a very, very average footballer in the mold of Brad Miller. That's no slight on Miller, he had a good career for a player of his ability - but I'd say Sicily's just about peaked; what you now see is what you get. Average key forward, average tall defender. (plays for free kicks way too often too)
-
It's simply not true though- there was a thread on this topic following the WCE win, where Viney played a blinder as captain. It's never been a slight on Viney to think the decision was the wrong one and being a 'keyboard warrior' has nothing to do with it.
