Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to stevethemanjordan's topic in Melbourne Demons
Same guy that announced Jesse Hogan's retirement from footy last year?? -
I think the StKilda boys took exception to the yapping up over summer before we beat them twice this year.
-
There's definitely some bad blood between the Melbourne and Saints players. A very similar article appeared before round one this year about our young players talking themselves up against the saints over the summer.
-
If that's the extent of the 'sledging' then I see no problem with it at all. StKilda's season was on the line that week and they fudged it. Do we think the Collingwood players were just quietly going about their business on Saturday??
-
Was a shocker! But I doubt that would have gone out without a big boss giving the OK.
-
Of course it's does, but are the two mutually exclusive? All the reviews under the sun will count for little if many supporters feel disengaged. Jones today did exactly what he should have done and my post was written before he fronted the press. If they want to sell memberships before Christmas, they need to put the sour note that the season ended on to rest by confronting it. Now, from a marketing point of view, they can shift that narrative to all the positives that came out of the year. This thread is %100 about how the club relates to, engages and connects with members and supporters. Of course there will be a review.
-
So why aren't members being sent this? Why isn't a leader looking down the barrel of the camera and saying this? All the supporters want to know is that they're hurting as much as we are...
-
I too think the club should not be silent and am a little surprised that nothing at all seems to be being said at this stage. I don't think it'll be an 'apology' and, truth be told, nothing they say will please everyone - but some sort of statement needs to be made.
-
I'm surprised that they took it so easy and that Pyke was seemingly ok with it. Flirting with your form is a dangerous thing to do leading into a finals campaign.
-
-
My concern is that the next time I see the players will be them running around in fancy dress enjoying mad Monday... might put my foot through the screen.
-
Too soon to look at anything objectively. I don't believe at the outset of a year you can judge it on whether you make the finals or not - you need to consider the variables and circumstances that arise during the season. Now that the season is done and I see the opportunities that we've squandered, I can say that the year was a failure. It hurts that I honestly believe we are capable of beating any team in the 8 this year... however we won't actually be there to do it.
-
Is this exciting or nauseating..?
-
Eddie!
-
I think we should look elsewhere for role models...
-
Well...
-
That match was an outrage!
-
Four quarter matches have been few and far between this year- but we played a ripper against WCE the week after we belted Footscray.
-
There's been a lot of talk of us being mentally weak, soft, unskilled, etc. While some of that may be true, what we are above all is terribly out of form. Essendon, Geelong and Richmond are peaking at the right time of year, I'll give them that.
-
I think a lot of the rooting for GWS reflects the attitude problem that is endemic at our club. Good/great teams don't turn it on and off at will - they always come to play. I don't think the outcome of tonight's match will have any impact on Adelaide's motivation. (I would also pee in my own eyes before I hope for a GWS win)
-
It would be nothing short of lunacy for Adelaide to rest anyone for this round, or even play below 100% intensity. No match this week, BYE next week, win first final, another week off, preliminary final - that'd be 1 match in 3-4 weeks for any rested player. I'm expecting them to maul WCE.
-
He had an absolute mare, but that comes at the tail end of a fantastic season. Must swing forward (fingers crossed) for finals if Hogan is to miss.
-
That loss hits pretty hard. As terribly as we played and as undeserved as it would have been, we still should have won it in the last. I think we'll still make the finals, but what should have been an exciting and celebratory two weeks, now feels a little flat and empty.

Is Goodwin a better coach than Roos?
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to At Least I Saw a Flag's topic in Melbourne Demons
Very hard to judge Goodwin this early into his career. So far, he's looking very capable. Roos however exemplifies the fact that there is a lot more to being a coach than simply being a 'match day coach'. -
Very sad day. Loved watching him after the footy hosting the highlights on a Saturday night and, in more recent years, listening to his distinctive calls over the wireless. He was a class act who genuinely loved the game.
