Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to stevethemanjordan's topic in Melbourne Demons
We don't have a proven history of being able to get the 'big trades' done. Getting what would be two massive trades done in one trade period would be unprecedented in modern MFC history. One of these is possible and, in Lever's case, looks almost likely. -

2017 Player Reviews: # 3 Christian Salem
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm starting to think he's playing out of position at halfback- much like Melksham in the first quarter of the year. Hopefully if his thyroid is getting under control he can build a tank and move into the midfield full time. Think he could be a real weapon in there and forward of centre. -
Would have been nice if Goodwin had of told him to take it easy 10 weeks ago...

It's an interesting point. Arguably, the two coaches in the league under the most pressure in their job are Chris Scott and Leon Cameron, who would both have astronomical winning pwrcentages. If neither Geelong nor the Giants win the flag this year it raises big questions about these two perhaps underachieving.

Article of Koch's expectation of players
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to darkhorse72's topic in Melbourne Demons
But... he didn't say it to the media... -

No problem with that, but wasn't it 'leaked' to the media'? -

The speed with which this made it to the media makes me suspect it was Koch that leaked it. Sounds like he's covering his own ass... -
Many, many people 2014-16. Last year the media had him earmarked for a breakout season and the Paul Chapman comparisons have been following him since day one. It's not a knock on anyone who did, he's shown glimpses but has been unable to follow through. FWIW https://coupler.foxsports.com.au/api/v1/article/amp/afl/dean-kent-primed-for-breakout-2016-season-with-melbourne-demons/news-story/1ba2a9190fc0c637217e9412076b1849 http://m.afl.com.au/news/2016-03-13/what-we-learned-from-your-club-in-the-nab-challenge Countless comparisons to Paul Chapman, with a handful of Boomer Harveys and a young Dane Swan.

Exactly right. My post is directed to those who believe that everyone outside of the best 22 should be cast away.
-
He'd be someone I'd like to meet in real life, but I know I'd panic and stuff it up and blurt out something along the lines of 'I love you.'
-
I've never seen the star quality in Kent that many have seen over the years. He is however the type of player that a lot of clubs would believe they could get the best out of. We wouldn't get much for him, but there'd be suitors IMHO.

Our major issues this year were immaturity and poor form when it mattered. Have a look at the grand final day line-up of every premiership team of the last 20 years and you will see there are some very average footballers in every one of them. I'm not saying we have a premiership list yet, and I'm also not saying our depth is amazing; but there is more to winning a premiership than the quality of individual players. While not perfect, our terrible list beat Adelaide at home, West Coast at home, Essendon at home and Port Adelaide at the G. That's four of the top 8, including the premiership favourites. Yes we need to always be looking to improve our list, but which team doesn't? GWS and the Crows have holes to fill and 'role players' getting consistent matches. Improving depth is what keeps the list managers and recruiting departments employed in every club in the league - not just the MFC.
-
Was it McKenzie that didn't rush it and managed to knock it over the boundary line? Whoever it was, that was epic. Some phenomenal tackles and one-percenters in the last two minutes.

I've read this question six times, expecting there to be some sort of trick in there... Sydney, of course.

I'm not sure you know what depth is... No one expects every player on the list to be a world beater. You claimed not a single player outside of our best 22 could contribute to a premiership win. That is simply not the case. You've bumped your own thread and only contributed sweeping generalisations that 'none of them are up to it'. This again is one dimensional and narrow minded. Im not saying our depth is great- just that there are a number of players who could contribute if needed. There's a list in my post of recent premiership players who are by no means great players, but they contributed to a flag.
-
You asked for one... I gave you five.
-
Ok... to do this we need to establish who is in the best 22 - everyone outside of that is depth. JETTA O.McDONALD HIBBERD HUNT T.McDONALD SALEM LEWIS JONES MELKSHAM PETRACCA HOGAN WATTS GARTLETT PEDERSEN NEAL-BULLEN GAWN VINEY OLIVER Int. BRAYSHAW HANNAN VINCE HARMES So after that, who on the list could make a contribution to rival recent premiership players such as: Dunkley, Mclean, Hambling, Schoenmakers, Duryea, Simpkin, Bailey, Pyke, Morton, Christensen, Hunt and West... Frost. Stretch. Kent (if he gets fit). vandenBerg. Bugg. I'd take these players over those premiership luminaries mentioned above. Are they champions? No. Could they contribute to a well coached and drilled best 21... yes. In addition, it's far too early to make any call on: J.Smith (has looked very good at times) King Weideman McKenna Johnstone Maynard Keilty T.Smith Filipovic Is there another clubs depth we should be particularly envious of outside of GWS????
-
Define 'up to it'?? Do you mean capable of playing senior footy? Getting a game at another club? Being a star of the competition?
-
Finishing top four in the VFL suggests that our depth is not as bad as you claim when compared to other AFL clubs. It was the form of our better players, not our depth, that cost us a finals berth. Suggesting that developing young players 'aren't up to it' is ridiculous.

I tend to think that the specifics of a players medical history are none of our business. If they tell us, great! But I don't think they're obliged to tell us anything other than 'foot' and expected date of return.

It's amazing to see how disciplined Adelaide are! They're very well coached and led on the field.
