The Rising Star Thread - Congratulations Jesse Hogan!
KingDingAling replied to Nascent's topic in Melbourne Demons
Roos give Hogan a big push last night on 360, it was good to see. Then Robbo points out that Cripps had 14 clearances against Freo - which is also massive. Both players would be deserving winners, but I think Hogan gets the nod due to playing a tougher position. -
Perhaps. But when all your friends are back in Melbourne, regardless of the Swans culture, he could still feel very isolated. Franklin was close to Rioli, Roughead and Gibson. I would only be speculating, I think it is anxiety related. But regardless, I think most people wish Franklin the best. He is much loved.
-
Has allegedly already struck out before. Whether he actually did or not, I guess we won't know. I think Franklin underestimated his support structure in Melbourne, the Hawks guys appeared to really rally around him. He is a bit isolated in Sydney. I never thought he should've left Hawthorn, it was a mistake, based on money, but without your health - money is irrelevant. .

At least MFC appear to have the right sources in regards to Bennell. There is no denying that he is a massive talent - as was Dayle Garlett - but.. There are issues there, and there has always been issues there. Bennell was no clean skin prior to entering the AFL, I said that a couple of years back. GC didn't do their homework, and now they've paid that price. I don't want MFC to make that same mistake. We already threw away the 2011 draft, we can't afford to throw away quality draft picks for troubled players. Regardless of their potential upside, they aren't realizing their talent for a very good reason.

That is not what is broken. If Frawley was worth pick 3, then Hawthorn really got pick 3 and 19 for Franklin, and still have cap space to chase another player. This could end up being Frawley, Bennell and pick 19 for Franklin. In the long term, that is a better deal. Plus they got O'Rourke for very little. We are moving towards unregulated FA, which will make cash the king, so I don't feel sorry for Hawthorn at all.

I thought last year that GIl shot himself in the foot. To deny us a priority pick was short sighted at best. As a leader, Gil is reactive to the media, and he isn't a strong leader. He could've made his job so much easier by allocating us a PP last year, we qualified, we were ordinary, and a PP was a logical choice. But now if Gil wants to give clubs PP's, then he has to compromise himself A LOT, and he will be seen as playing favorites. The AFL want everything in their own discretion, but if you are a weak leader and won't make the tough calls, then maybe the AFL need to look at more concrete alternatives. Now the AFL are stuck trying to manipulate and justify a compo system. Carlton shouldn't get pick 2 for Kreuzer, he has been injury plagued, hasn't exactly achieved a lot in his career. At least Frawley was an AA and runner up B&F.

It is on the clubs, they should hold firm. I thought GWS played their hand well last year. They held firm and made the Bulldogs pay massive overs for Tom Boyd. When a player does nominate to go, if the club isn't getting overs - then they should shop around. But the new rule of future draft picks will generally ensure players get to their preferred destination.

Hype about the Saints - is it justified?
KingDingAling replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
The hype around St Kilda isn't justified. Riewoldt and Montagna will retire in the next couple of years, that will set them back. Bruce has had a good year, but he still has to back that up for me to rate him a legitimate replacement to Riewoldt. McCartin is a long way off - and unproven. Their ruck stocks are reasonably solid, Longer is a real prospect, however, Hickey has regressed, and doesn't look the player I thought he was. Billings is the best thing St Kilda have going for them, and he is injury plagued atm, and is yet to show he'll get over them. I don't buy the hype around St Kilda, there are far too many variables surrounding them. Plus, we seen what happened to Port when the AFL expected more from them, sides put more work into them and cut off their supply, rebound, and run. -
Glad to hear we aren't into Bennell. GC didn't do their homework on the kid. MFC should steer well clear.

Would be prepared to offer up a 3rd round pick. Anything more than that I wouldn't even entertain talks.

Dees should seek AFL Exoneration of Tanking fiasco.
KingDingAling replied to Redleg's topic in Melbourne Demons
No one seems to be complaining either. Adelaide supporters maybe, that is about it. What a joke this is. We were fined 500k for less than this IMO. If we were bringing the game into disrepute then what do we call North/Freo resting players? North have manipulated the outcome in order to avoid a final in Adelaide. That is worse than what we did. I want our club ask some questions and at least force the AFL to come out and justify their stance, then we should take them to court, get our 500k back. -
Training Photos for the Final session of 2015

Petracca is a beast. I hope Petracca has been dragging Trengove to the gym with him. -
Not much difference between what North/Freo are doing and what we done. Different rules for different teams I guess.

KingDingAling replied to Redleg's topic in Melbourne Demons
Freo and North are painting the league in a negative light, where is their 500k fine? -
We won't get pick 25 for Garland. That is not even remotely realistic.

In country footy teams rest players, sometimes 3/4's of a side, it is a natural part of football. People in the AFL that are kicking up a stink, I have no time for at all, not even a little bit, it just footy politics and the business side of the AFL - I hate the business side of the AFL. I like what North Melbourne have done, I think it is unfortunate that Brayshaw even has to speak diplomatically about the issue, I wouldn't. Maybe that is why he is where he is. I would simply say "we play to win and I make no apologies for playing to win".

I think Jack Viney is the future captain, that is why I put him in the poll 3 years ago. Viney is EVERYTHING MFC does not represent - but everything we need to represent in order to be a successful football club. Jack Viney will lead us to a flag, he embodies everything we lack as a side - hard, uncompromising, improves upon his weaknesses, doesn't relent, hates losing, plays with passion, etc. We are a very lucky club to have this kid. It will be a great time for the MFC when Viney holds up that cup.

I would go further than that, I would ban anyone who even tried to justify this terrible rule. Plenty of do-gooders came out in support of the sub, they justified the use of it, and shot down anyone who questioned the sub rule. I would ban them, possibly even give them life without the possibly of parole.

Top 10 pick yes, but his stock has dropped this year. Toumpas was a top 5 pick, does your logic apply to him as well? I don't think we'd of even gotten a second round pick for Toumpas, and I don't think Mayes is worth a second round pick.
-
Be worth asking the question. If we could arrange the right deal, I think Mayes could be worth a shot. 3rd rounder at most for mine.
-
I suspect it is more about movement - than it is about football. Rodan is the perfect mentor for Jimmy Toumpas, I couldn't think of a better guy. I mentioned a few pages back Toumpas needing to do ballet or movement exercises. I think Rodan can help Toumpas loosen a little bit. It is a big flaw in Jimmys game, he looks too stiff, awkward, and always looked panicky.
-
I think it would take pick 5. Would I give it? Probably not, but he is worth more than a 2nd round pick. Maybe we float Howe as bait, and add something to that. But I doubt a second round pick alone would get the deal done. Collingwood apparently wanted Redden in the Beams trade last year (instead of Crisp), but Brisbane were very quick to knock that on the head. Obviously Redden is highly rated, which suggests Brisbane will want overs for him.

Perth Commentators on SEN
KingDingAling replied to Jumping Jack Clennett's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't mind it. I spent 5 years in WA, they are just like that. Its like they don't even follow football outside of Western Australia. I look forward to the Jack Viney 200 game banner, I don't think they'll be laughing so hard at that one, I believe he'll be a premiership captain and brownlow medalist by the time we see that banner. -
I was hard on Viney at the start of the year, I thought he only had ONE pace - flat out. Clearly he rectified any shortcomings and improved upon them. Whoever worked with Viney - needs to start working with Jimmy Toumpas. Get this kid in the gym, he looks small to me, and looks stiff. I think he needs to strengthen up, and loosen up. What would I do? I would lock the kid in the gym, strength work, plyometrics, and I would make him join a martial arts class - Choy Lay Fut, or even ballet. He needs to loosen his limbs. Somehow I don't think I'd have to offer my opinion on what our players should do - if Dave Mission was actually competent. That bloke is an absolute joke. I still remember when Trengove appeared on the footy show a few years back, he was captain, he looked dreadfully out of condition, like I would've been appalled to rock up like that to a local ressies game. Was about that time when I started wondering WTF was going on down at the club.

Yep, fair call.
