Jack was always going to come good, just needed time. In football we expect too much out of young players, our expectations have been a bit high. Kids need time to develop, now Watts is maturing he is playing the football we expect him to. Tom Hawkins was much the same, and they were both great junior footballers.
-
It's hardly the fault of the youth, they are mostly fatherless. We like in a fatherless nation.
-
I don't know what is worse, the project, or the loonies over at the ABC. Toss up.
-
Just so we can see a 'good finish'. There is no way that was a free kick.
-
I think the Richmond players either didn't hear it - or thought Rioli played on. It's hard to preempt what Taylor Hunt was thinking, he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. I will add, I don't think it should've been a free kick to Rioli in the first place. But given that it was.. The 50 should've been paid.
-
I think Richmond were prepared for a knee high daisy cutter into the forward line. Instead they got a Frawley hospital ball. It worked on that occasion. Mightn't always work for them. He is an ordinary kick is James Frawley.
-
Frawley adds an interesting dimension to Hawthorn. In a team full of beautiful kicks, Frawley brings the 'hospital ball' into their game. I just might work. Did then.
-
Yeah, we care about the 'red and blue'. Now we just gotta get our players on board.

Looks like a chess match.

They are wearing an Indigenous strip, so no. I will have to egg you.

That was more of an unfortunate tragedy, primarily handed by the clubs. I'd argue that it was handled well because the clubs handled it - not the AFL.

If we beat the pies I will ...

Be interesting to see who we tag. Adams and Crisp have been in as good a form as Pendles. Swan is arguably in better form than all the above. They've been playing well without winning. Gawn vs Grundy will be a good ruck duel as well. -
Nah, let's just throw eggs at the those who boo. That is the solution proposed by the AFL players association. No wonder the great game of AFL has down the toilet. We need new leaders, simple as that. Vlad was a dismal failure and Gil is worse. They guys simply cannot handle issues. They bungled the drug saga, now they are bungling every issue that crops up.
-
I think Prestia is an A-Grader. If not, he isn't far off. He is exactly the type of guy we need. Not sure what he'd cost, but there are no guarantees our early pick would turn out to be a star. Package it up with a player.
-
It would be a good result to land ANY of those players. Dangerfield is the ideal type, we need an elite mid. Wouldn't have to trade for him, perfect.
-
Ahh sh*t, I forgot about Leunberger, this means they'll get pick 2 - assuming they end up last - and we'll be pushed back. Now I see why other teams were annoyed over us receiving an early pick for Frawley. In terms of the key position players, this year the first 3 picks stand out, doesn't mean they'll make it - but they are standouts IMO. If we were to end up in the bottom 3, and missed out on one of those players, that would be frustrating. Leunberger isn't worth an early pick, he isn't even their number 1 ruck. The bloke barely gets on the park. He'd be lucky to be worth a second rounder if the AFL are being honest in their assessment.

Even at an older age Goodes would be in our top 3. Can play anywhere, and even after 2 brownlows, remains underrated for mine.
-
Hopefully Goodes has played his last game. Football and politics don't go together. It would be fantastic if we could just get back to football. The game has just become a platform for lefties to push out their issues onto the broader public. Gil needs to go, the job should have always been opened up to outsiders. The public have had enough, they just want to get back to basic football. What a deplorable shambles our great game has become, the people are speaking by switching off in droves. And it's pretty sad when issues like the Goodes issue will create a spike in viewers for a short time, then we'll wait for another issue. This is just political football, due to those in charge, the AFL has pushed us in this direction - where football and politics are combined. So now they NEED these issues. What a joke, [censored] off Gil.
-
Exactly the type of player we need. GC can't really afford to lose him either.

2015 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

I didn't see anything in Toumpas prior to being drafted. Admittedly I only watched the Nationals. Some rated that carnival highly, he was captain. Personally, I didn't think much of it. I like the contested types, thought Wines was the logical option, had a great nationals, displayed grunt and aggression - which we needed. Lovell and Gresham are my picks so far, I'd be willing to trade an early pick - for 2 picks in the teens. Lovell is definitely the stand out mid in my eyes. -
The hysteria around this 3rd man up is a joke. 3rd man up has been happening for decades. Now we have TV rights and someone in the media whinges, or the game doesn't look pretty enough - these rules get changes. It is beyond ridiculous. The game is not getting a chance to evolve. It is simple, nominate the ruckman, leave it at that. Players generally don't block the ruckman they come over the top, that 3rd man can - and should - be blocked. In country football, this is a simple, simple issue. If the 3rd man up is effective, you block him. It is that simple.
-
Then it is up to the mids to ensure direction. Gawn is still learning, he is a developing ruckman, he does tend to slam the ball down sharply at times. But overall, there is no direction. We need clean disposal out of the centre - yet our mids just slam it on the boot. As good a year as Bernie Vince has had, every time I see him he is hacking the ball out of the centre, Jones isn't much better. Salem is the answer to our midfield woes, not only can he dispose cleanly, but he does not panic. Between Salem and Brayshaw the future is bright. In the meantime, I will just bang my head against he wall every weekend. Moloney started this bombing into the forward line trend, and it hasn't stopped.
-
Yeah it could go a long way to explaining the lack of cohesiveness between the mids. Max Gawn wins a large majority of taps thesedays, yet the midfield fail to capitalize on this. We should operate far better out of the midfield. Players aren't organised even nearly enough, they don't plan - instead they throw it on the boot. Our disposal into our forward line is no better than country footy - even junior country footy sides dispose the ball better. I hope that Jesse Hogan fronts the coaching panel and demands cleaner disposal. They might listen then. The only other solution is Max Gawn eventually getting sick of winning taps - and sorting the mids out himself.
