Anything is possible

Before I start off, I've tipped Geelong this week. I never tip us as I believe if we do win, I won't give a stuff about getting the tip wrong, but if we lose, at least I don't fall prey to being bias in my tips.

Anyway, stranger things have happened in sport.

Take Round 3, 2006. The Hawks were 1-1 and travelled down to Kardinia Park to take on the Cats, who had annilihated Brisbane and the Roos in their first two rounds. The Hawks had been written off and it was meant to be an easy win for the Cats. Hawthorn however had different ideas. They burst out of the blocks in the 1st half and eventually won the game by about 9 goals.

Or when Fremantle travelled to Geelong in 2005, having never won there before. Again they burst out of the blocks (Farmer kicking 4 for the match IIRC) and put Geelong under pressure to eventually win by 9 points.

There's also Round 20, 2005. A certain team in red and blue who had lost 7 games on the trot came up against a Cats outfit who was starting to gain serious momentum. The visitors had not won at Kardinia since 1989. The Cats were up by 30+ points at one point in the 2nd quarter had that lead eroded which resulted in a tumultous final term where the visitors won by a solitary point.

Or perhaps look to the English Premier League, season 2006/2007. West Ham (My club) had to win 7 out of their last 9 games to avoid relegation. Somehow, they did that and more.

One particular game against Arsenal at Highbury (Arsenal's home ground at the time) West Ham were dominated in general play but snatched a goal in injury time in the 1st half and went on to win 1-0. But even that didn't compare to the last game of the season (Which we had to win to avoid relegation) where we travelled to Old Trafford, the home of the champions Manchester United. West Ham actually held their own and again won 1-0 to ensure they would play in the Premiership next season.

I'm not saying we'll win, I'm just saying give us a chance. Stranger things have happened in sport....

Certainly one of the best wins I have ever seen from a MFC side. I distinctly remember Jeff White belting the ball forward time after time and Junior getting forward for some goals. Certainly a game to draw inspiration from.

Golden State, hadn't played in the NBA playoffs in over a decade, scraped into the playoffs and beat a Dallas team that had one of the best season records in NBA history. They beat them comfortably, too.

Yeah but West Ham cheated by having Tevez and mashy on thei books and should have had their points stripped from them and relegated, they are the Carlton of the EPL.

I tell my 5 mates and wife who support them the same thing.

you are joking right we have not got a snow balls chance in hell of winning, back in 1998 the list was a hell of a lot better then 2008 list, just think back in 1998 lyon was on the list, viney,a young nitze the orther german was on the list caming back from injury, tingy, jeff framer, a young yze, young jeff white stynes on the list . Now go through this current list of players in 2008 does anyone match that list , in 1998 we had a good list that had a bad start to the season, in 2008 we have a S$#T list who are no good thats a big diffrence. but in saying that maybe somthing out of the ordenary happens maybe the cats have the same flu i have the whole team whould be nice. our list is the worst list of any club in the last 25 years,i think this current team has played its best footy.

Sure, be a defeatist but this was our team in round 14 1998;

48 Matthew Bishop

40 Mark Bradly

41 Nathan Brown

31 Donald Cockatoo-Collins

20 Matthew Febey

21 Steven Febey

4 Brent Grgic

7 Darren Kowal

36 Andrew Leoncelli

3 Garry Lyon

35 Anthony McDonald

23 James McDonald

43 Guy Rigoni

24 Russell Robertson

10 Marcus Seecamp

29 Shaun Smith

39 Craig Smoker

2 Stephen Tingay

12 Todd Viney

34 Jeff White

22 Shane Woewodin

13 Adem Yze

And the players out injured included: Ingerson, Farmer, Neitz, Schwarz, Stynes & Shanahan.

Junior, Robbo, Rigoni, Doggy Brown, Bishop, Grgic, Smoker, Bradly and Cockatoo-Collins had all played less than 20 games! It was an amazing win!!

Whether we can do it against Geelong is the thing of dreams, but this team was considered a snowballs chance in hell, yet ran over the top of a superior outfit! It can be done !!

After all the title of this thread is "Anything is Possible"!

Super Bowl New England Patriots vs New York Giants. Patriots we massive favourites, unbeaten all year. Untill the play of the century by the Giants.

When I saw that I called it the greatest upset in the history of sport.

If we win today, we will claim that title.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
