Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The round 1 selection panel conundrum...NB Underdone players in italics

Backs

Bell Carroll Frawley

Pettard Rivers Bartram

Midfield

Buckley McLean Morton

White Jones McDonald

Forwards

Robertson Miller Davey

Green, Neitz, Newton

Interchange

Johnson.P,

Moloney,

Dunn

PLUS ONE

Already this line up includes 5 players who could be considered underdone as far as match preparation goes

+ 1 has me stumped as I would love to see McNamara or Martin get a game but this leaves us with a lack of midfield rotations, this is where Colin's brain explosion over the weekend has hurt us!

I am assuming that Bruce won't be risked yet, same for Whelan. Could Yze still provide cover for a midfield rotation? Makes me wish Valenti was on the senior list. Will CJ be given a crack?

I don't envy the match commitee's job next Thursday.

Any demonlanders got any angles on a solution?...answers on a postcard please

In order to beat the Hawks, we need to dominate the midfield, and stop the their run from defence. We won't stop their forwards.

The first move is to put Grimes on the long term injury list, and promote Valenti. Your team is stacked with talls of average ability. Having said that, alot of our small and mids are lacking match practice. So injury concerns aside, here we go:

Bartram Carroll Rivers

Petterd Miller Bell Buckley

Wheatley McLean Morton

Bruce Robertson Davey

Green Neitz

White McDonald Jones

P.Johnson, Moloney, Dunn, Valenti

7 man backline. Bell takes Franklin, with Rivers double-teaming. Miller takes Boyle. Carroll takes Roughhead.

5 man forwardline. Losing Bate and Sylvia really hurts. Robertson needs to lift his workrate. Move him out of the full-forwardline where he bludges.

What's the rules of assessing a long term injury. 6-8 seems long but if it helps just put Grimey 14-16 even if he wasn't.

When he gets back in 6-8, we'll call it a miracle recovery. Then leave Valenti on as I"m sure someone else will have fallen down.

Yes, I'm a Valenti fan.

I'd start Dunn on the ground and Morton on the bench. Yeah I am a big believer in Dunn and I think he will step up bigtime this year. Bring Morton on early in the first quarter. He is too good to leave on the pine for too long.

And FFS put Green up forward!!!!!!!!!!!!! Robbo to push down the ground ala Scotty Lucas. Give Newton and Flash some space to work magic. Nieta in purely pack busting role.

I think maybe Buckley could even get some time up forward. The kids gunna be a bazooka

Oh yeah what about Meeson getting a go round one?

MO64 I think you may have solved the puzzle with Wheatley being the missing piece re the PLUS ONE [hope he's fit] can slot on at HBF or CW

As for the rest

Interesting to put Rivers at BP...is that to reduce the risk of Frosty crashing into him???

I hope your right that Bruce is fit to play without too much injury risk

so in: Bruce, Valenti,

out: Newton, Frawley...so am I right in interpreting these two as some of the average tall's you were referring to?

Morton is soft and not up to standard yet! If the dees play him Round 1 then they are definately going for a blood the kids approach. Valenti deserves a gig but unfortunately for him there's no LTI. Weetra should not play otherwise the seaon is over (if it isn't already). Frawley just really isn't that good either. He showed absolutely nothing last year.

These players should be looked at come round 9,10,11 etc if/when the dees aren't looking that good for the finals and it's on to looking towards 2009.

Wheatley should definately come in to fill that HB/W position as mentioned before. He's an experienced, talented and solid performer.

You select Bartram in your team but not Dunn. Why play one underdone player and not another? DB and CC have both stated they have been very cautious with these recovering players. I have faith that, pending a good performance this Saturday, Bruce, Dunn, Rivers, Wheatley and Whelan may all be available.

Wishful thinking maybe, but not impossible.

Not just Newton and Frawley. Throw in Carroll, Miller, and Robertson (who plays tall) and a waning Neitz. Rivers aside, our talls don't instill me with any great confidence.

Even if he's missing a leg through amputation, I'd still play Rivers in the side as a loose man in the backline. Franklin is our biggest danger, but he doesn't play a traditional key forward role. I'd start Bell on him, so naturally the Hawks would try to isolate Bell one-on-one deep in their forward line. This is why I'd have Rivers playing as a loose man deep in our backline.

Back from the Leighoak.

Good fun, some good question's

Seems a few players I'd hope to be fit are unlikely starters for Round 1: Rivers, Frawley, Bartram, Wheatley, but Bruce is 50/50

DB seemed to play down expectations of Cale Morton playing too much footy in the 1st half of 08, but I've a sneaking suspicion he may get a run either on the wing or off the pine against the Dorks.

Have fun filling in the gaps

To fill in some of the gaps:

seems pretty likely that Yze's going to get a run so there's one spot.

We're short one tall in the backline, does that mean Holland gets a run? Oh dear, as much as I like his work, against the Hawk's young talls, this could be disastrous.

Last spot on the bench will probably go to someone capable of a midfield rotation role so who does that leave? Bode? CJ? Dear God, our depth is shocking this year!!

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
