i would like to see him captain the side next year but i think if he does step aside, it will postpone his career (or atleast let him play better for one more season) because it means that he does not have to be out on the ground leading us as much or if there is a game in Perth, he could maybe take 2 or 3 weeks off during the year to allow for better recovery which means he will play better next time and reduce the chance of injury..the lions did similar to this with alistair lynch.

Neitz has said previously that he'd like to hand over the captaincy while he was still playing, and finish off as a 'soldier', so it'll be interesting to see what he does.

The emphasis on external [non-footy] commitments this year may mean he decides to hang on, but regardless of who's named captain I'm sure we'll see an emphasis on identifying and developing new leaders.

According to this article in today's Age, Neitz to lead Dees until he decides otherwise the wankers story is a [censored] -"The club has rejected reports that consulting firm Leading Teams will decide the captaincy."

I think the club will convince Neita to have 1 more year at the helm, if they want a young bloke like McLean or Jones to take over - due to extra 150th year commitments

However if they want Bruce or Green to take over, then that would be a different story as their both experienced and well trained in the media etc..

I think Neeta more than deserves to lead the club in its 150th year.. and good on him. what I would like to see as something a little different is a heir apparent to be chose and a sort of mentoring happen next year.. Not co captains per se.. just the Master and Apprentice in a fashion with the chosen one going on solo in 2009 as Captain.

This way the new cpatian eases into role and the great Neitz can effectively give one last hurrah as well as imparting what he knows. That would be , to me , a magnificent thing for a captain..a true leader to do. Its what you do in business etc ..why not footy !!

Neita should definitely keep the captaincy, but I think McLean and Rivers (who I believe are potential future captains) should assume more responsibility next year on and off the field.

What do people think of having co-captains?? Perhaps we could have three captains for different areas of the ground. That is, Neita leads the forward line, Brock marshalls the midfield, and Jared controls the back line. This is a little different to the structure of the co-captaincy tried by the Brisbane Lions.

I think this would help to groom some of the younger fellas into leadership roles, and allow Neita to concentrate on his footy in what will probably be his final year.

Im not for co captains as a normal run of mill thing,but as a process of handing over, especially in these cicumstances I think it has some merit.

I would imagine as part of a leadership strategy that various and particular players are charged with looking after their part of the ground, but not as captains.

noooo not co captains...there needs to be somebody (only one) with the major responsability because when there needs to be decisions made and things to be done, two people might disagree....there will always be one stand out in co captains ala, the one that does the photo shoot etc...that is why u may aswell have one captain and have a whole team of vices for all i care, but you couldnt have joint prime ministers or joint presidents i believe because it is the hands of one person to make the final desicions and there is always a stand out...

essentially I agree.. But if you have a captain.. and a captainn in training...is slightly different. I just see this a s a win win way of handing over the mantle..essentially the heir apparent is the vice captain.. just all know he will step up the next year.
