The Price of Chris Judd

Recommended Posts

It's fair to say that we would have had to give up picks 4, 14(TJ) and 21 for Chris Judd, given that Carlton gave up 3, Kennedy and 22.

We now know that Cale Morton, Jack Grimes and Addam Maric were the price that we would have paid for Judd, and only time will tell how good they will be.

Of course there are immediate financial benefits of picking up Judd, but the downside is salary cap pressure over the years of his contract.

But purely from a list perspective, i'm not unhappy that we didn't get Judd.

The real price is what the Eagles got - Kennedy, Masten, Notte - give it 3-5 years.

Well, now we get into economic semantics!

Kennedy, Masten and Notte are what Eagles got for Judd.

Pick 3, 22 and Kennedy we're the price that Carlton paid for him.

Pick 4, 14 (or a player, eg Petterd) and 21 would have been the price we would have had to pay for him.

But it's a fair call that if we get more out of Morton, Grimes and Maric combined than Carlton get out of Judd, then we've come out winners in the end!

I'd argue that the extra funds off the field will be balanced by the on-field tension as the salary cap constricts around the futures of Carlton's young guns.

Also, if the Golden Groin doesn't hold up, or any other serious injury leaves Judd omitted or unale to play at full capacity, then the Judd trade will have done almost as much damage to Carlton as the salary cap breaches.

And if, by some cosmic intervention, the arrivial of Judd doesn't suddenly make everyone on Carlton's list 20% faster, 20% fitter, 20% more skilled and 100% better at working as a team, then they'll still be rooted anyway.

dont leave out cheney and mcnamara...CAC's little secrets

it seemed that CAC always had his heart set on Cheney so he must be something in him.

McNamara may be a very good get, but he was actually rated by most clubs pre-draft, so its quite surprising he slipped so far. mid year, alot of people considered him a first rounder

Named by afl insider as one of the Top 8 steals of the draft.

66 Melbourne - Tom McNamara

The back line for Melbourne in 2007 was in disarray, but with this draft and a few players returning from injury it could turn into a strength. McNamara went very late, but he could be playing AFL a lot quicker than some of the high picks.

McNamara was a little, I get the impression he was overlooked a bit because he skipped the Draft Camp.

It's hard to see how an under16 & under 18 All-Australian got missed until pick 66.

Nothing to do with Judd, though!

The real price of Judd was the $7.5m that we would have had to fork over to get his services plus we would have had to find a benefactor to employ him as our environmental spokesperson while one of our sponsors flogs petrol guzzling cars that emit gasses into the atmosphere that will ultimately destroy the ozone layer. It's OK for Carlton to pay that sort of money when Mr. Cartel can write out a cheque for a record law breaking fine of $38m but could we afford to do it given how our list is made up?

Point well made. We should all get over Judd anyway. He plays for an opposition club and that's that!

That is not the price, that is what they spent "their" money on. The price is what "we" would have paid.

Given that it probably would have been picks 4, 14 and 21, then it it would have been too much for me, way too much.

Nor does his arrival give them a backline.

Heh heh.

Three years ago Carlton supporters were talking about how they had this great spine and it would set them up for years. Even then they had Whitnall as a full-time CHF and CHB. And their midfield was a wreck with zero depth.

Now they'll tell you they have the greatest midfield ever assembled... it's just a shame they have zero depth in their key positions.

They haven't even come full circle - they've just stood on one spot and faced the other way.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
