I have a feeling Neita may not continue here are my reasons:

1. He had a shocker of a season onfield.

2. He had been carrying an injury basicly all season.

Also I feel he doesn't have it in him anymore he is not doing the club a favor by playing he can't kick he can't run and can sorta mark.

strange post as nothing has indicated he wont play on. he has said he will play another season, but has hinted at relinquishing the captaincy...

neita had a poor year this year with injuries. those injuries were bad luck injuries from collisions etc, yes he is more susceptible to these now he is getting older, however it is not a chronic problem. if he has a bit of luck he could kick 50 goals next year, which is more than enough.

Indeedy. And for me, he doesn't even need to kick 50. If we can get our small forwards to get their brains switched on, all he needs to do is cause a spillage.

certainly him kicking 50 goals next year is enough though i cant see him doing it. My main concern is the constant injuries are going to end his career if he plays on he isnt doing himself any favors.

good point re the 50 goals. newton should step up. i expect roobo to kick a pile as usual. it will be interesting to see where the goals come from as we now dont have a 80 goal a season forward anymore. the midfield really needs to step up on this one. if bate plays up the ground more i expect to see lots of running goals from him (up to 30 from the centre to be honest, he is that sort of player, and the on the run style suits him better than set shots).

neitz provides a good strong contest. if he can trap the ball in there he will be worth a lot up forward. and remember it was his bung knee that stopped him kicking big goals last year from outside 50 towards the end...

He will play on

Its way too late for him to retire now

The coaches will be carefully balancing out player numbers for trade week so we know how many picks tpo use in the draft

i think we might have heard by now if he wasnt going to play... ;)

neita and ooze and white will retire end of 08 season

and perhaps jmac and holland...

5 players who will be hard to replace (although yze has made it a bit easier recently).

given how many we've moved on this year, if we add a couple of delistings to that next year we will have moved almost half the list in 2 seasons...

He will play on but I fear he may have gone a year too long. His best use will be as a decoy forward. His marking has deteriorated over the last couple of years, and with it so has his consistency. Our best hope is that other sides still fear him and play their best defender on him, allowing Newton, Robbo, Bate etc a bit more breathing room. A goal a game is about what I would expect next year (around the 30 mark), which is pretty much what G Lyon got in 1998 ( his last full season as he only played a couple of games in 99). He should definitely relinquish the Skippers role. I have loved watching Neita play but it is time for the big fella. I hope Bailey isn't faced with the prospect of dropping him during the season!

any teams who put 2nd rate defenders on him do so at their peril. this guy is 195 odd cms and 100kgs. he is an elite player of afl footy, and while past him prime putting a 2nd stringer on him will cause neitz to do some serious rag doll work with him...

Agree and that would show anyone that it is proof we are in a rebuilding stage and not a top up stage.

Neita will go on, but i agree he should give up the captaincy for 08. If we put Green, Mclean or Bruce into captaincy position it would send a message that we are entering a new era under the coaching of Bailey.

I'm not yet convinced about him being able to see out another season and that Demon forward line looks so old. Neitz, Yze, Robertson, possibly Holland. There's at least one player too many nudging 30 years of age. A new coach with a youth policy isn't going to want to see that.

With Robbo re-signed and Neita's knee playing up late this season, I'm not altogether certain that the plug will not be pulled between now and draft day.

I would have thought that he would of announced his retirement by now...

This is the thing, he all but commands the first up defender. To not do so affords him great freedom. The opposition is dmaned if they do and damned if they dont..

he'll play on.. it will be his "golden pond " year..lol. He might be rested during games a little more, allowing someone else more 'experience'

it wouldnt be like Neeta to not give it one final crack !! :)

Newton, Davey and Bate counter balance that. I also doubt Holland will get as much game time if Dunn stamps his authority at CHF early in the season. Neitz will have plenty of support!!

the thing to keep in mind about next year is it will be treated as a transition year. The changing of the guard.. team Demons 09 is going to be a very different beast

Neita will play on next year!!! you all seen him play for ND for his last game whilt he was carrying a injury! He has shown he loves this club and will stay on to celebrate our 150th Birthday!!!

Posted

you could be talking about nearly anyone on the list

your quite right there indeed melbourne 2007 have had all that and more.

Posted

Neeta will play on for some very simple reasons

First of all he has a contract to do so for 2008 !!

secondly , thirdly and otherise ,

he has a contract to play in 2008 !! lol

He'll go one more year. He knows its his last. He knows we will play 500% better in 2008 and he'll want to enjoy his swansong and good luck to him.

Gimme a break.

Neita will [censored] in 50 goals if he remains fit and plays 20 games. I reckon he'll manage between 12-15 games and average better than 2 a game. Still had plenty of penetration in his kicking when fit and didn't constantly go to ground in contests as big players tend to do when they can't match it with the big boys anymore.

Agree it would be good to take the captaincy load off him but at the moment there aren't any suitable replacements and therefore the man with more resolve than team of navy seals will have to carry the burden again. IMO he is more than capable

Green will captain next year, at least i think he should, i think he showed good leadership this year.

Neitz will play on. There is no reason why he shouldn't.

And YES!!! I AGREE!!! GREEN FOR CAPS!!!

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round.
