  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The media have no idea who Melbourne has chosen, they're just guessing. One thing is certain though, no matter who is chosen there will be people upset with the decision.

Absolutely. Why would Melbourne let the newly appointed Coaches name be leaked to the Media before the announcement on Tuesday. I am sure that every measure would be taken to keep that from happening and currently there is no way of confirming that the Media speculation has any truth?

I also agree that no matter who is appointed, there will be a massive amount of posts against it. As has been asked by Jaded, please don't let the appointment stop you from getting a 2008 Membership.

Please stick around so that I can mock you when the announcement is made

And to all other passionate Melbourne supporters, please have a drink and go have a little nap.

The angst that has already been shown BEFORE any announcement has been made, is seriously pathetic.

We don't know what Bailey can bring to the table, just like we don't know what Sheedy didn't bring to the table.

I trust that after this long process, the club has chosen the right man and for the right reasons. The club probably recognised that we are not serious contenders going into 2008/2009 and have therefore decided that Sheedy is not the right man for the job.

Whatever happens and whoever is chosen, please PLEASE don't deny your club your membership money. We need every cent we can get and as many supporters as we can to get on board. Many here wanted Daniher gone (myself included), and the board delivered. Have some faith in the club and support it.

This is a new era for the MFC and we can only hope it's a vast improvement on the last 40+ years.

So moderators mock posters on this site. Very clever.

I find your naivity amusing. It certainly seems like the wool has been pulled over the eyes of many, which was indeed the objective of the "process".

I have not read many of the posts going back for weeks so I have no idea of your opinions nor how much they may have changed through the "process", but I can assure you that Sheedy was never even a genuine contender. I would also suggest that the "top 5" is also somewhat of a misnomer.

Your faith in the board is admirable. That would be basically the same board that reappointed ND in 2004 for three years! I don't think the board delivered because you wanted it! If they listened to supporters our new coach wouldn't be who they appointed. This board (and just about all others) do not heed the wishes or views of supporters. That is not necessarily a bad thing, and I have no real issue with Bailey getting the job, but the upside of Sheedy was enormous and I find it hard to believe that in our current plight (losing money, losing staff and losing credibility) that we wouldn't go for someone with a proven record of success and instead punt on someone who might be a good coach. He certainly couldn't be any worse as a coach than he was as a player. For those who don't remember him, think Godfrey, only about half as fast and with about half as much skill and nowhere near the ticker. Having said that, good coaching is not necessarily about having a stellar playing record (Hafey and Jeans for example).

I have now lived through five new eras (Barassi, Northey, Balme, Daniher and now Bailey) - still waiting!!!

I bet we won't ever see you again around here

Here's a lesson to all you kids; don't listen to posters who conveniently sign up a day before a major announcement, or during trade week, and bring us breaking and earth-shattering 'inside information'!

You left yourself wide open bud. It's not against the forum rules to "mock" someone (personal abuse is another matter), and if you come in to the site with all guns blazing claiming to know everything that is going on -- when quite obviously you didn't -- then I'm afraid you're going to cop quite a lot of egg on the face.

It's how it works in the real world and it's how it works here.

In my opinion, based on Bailey's coaching career and how long he has been in the AFL as a coach of some sort, he was our best candidate. While I would have preferred Sheedy purely for branding purposes (and partly because he is a football genius), Bailey has been the apprentice at two of the best teams of the past decade (Essendon in 2000 and Port in 2002-2004) and it was only a matter of time before he was coach, at Melbourne or not. I'm optimistic.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
