I've heard a lot about the possibility of Shane Valenti being rookied by an AFL club but I have heard nothing about Pete Summers. I've been going to the Sandringham games this year as well as watching them on TV and am very impressed with this kid. He was on Essendon's rookie list at one stage a couple of years back, now a 23 year old he has been a big contributor in the majority of Sandringham's games this year. His decision making and finishing skills have been very classy. I know most of you think it will be better picking up a a younger player (eg. 18-20 year old) but personaly I think he is ready to play AFL.

What are your thoughts on whether he is good enough or not to make it to the top level?

If he was on Essendon's rookie list then Sheedy would have already had a good look at him and decided to press the reject button. Therefore, if Sheeds becomes coach, Summers chances of being drafted by us won't be all that flash.

Really needs to work on his kicking.

No thanks!

You've got to be kidding. One of, if not the best kick down at Sandy and puts a lot of Melbourne blokes to shame too.

Definitely worth a mature age rookie. If he was on Melbourne's list this year he would have been playing since round 5.

He has probably come on a bit in the last few years since being at Essendon.

Agree.

Potentially rookie list him but I'd prefer to elevate Jace Bode...

Also Biddlecombe - looks the goods but we have enough of undersized defenders and its not hard to look good in such a dominant team as Sandy.

The times I have seen him on telly his disposal by foot has either hit an opposition or not a target. At first I thought beauty he is a great player lets get him but as I watched him more his foot skills aren't all that great.

I don't know much about Summers.

However, as a 23 year old you're definitely closer to where you're going to be as a footballer rather than when you're 17. Less risky than picking up a kid, but less upside/potential I guess.

Not sure what you mean by that. We have elevated Bode - that means there's a spot on the rookie list. Do you mean to say that Bode is a simialr player and thus picking up Summers would be pointless?

Also Biddlecombe - looks the goods but we have enough of undersized defenders and its not hard to look good in such a dominant team as Sandy.

Did he play for Geelong?

You need to get down to TBO more often then, DD36. I'm guessing we've been on the ABC about twice this year? Summers is a class player at this level, and would probably be some outside chance of being rookied, he's had 3 good years now at VFL level, his disposal would be upto AFL standard without a doubt...

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
