Alternate Jumper?

Featured Replies

Just wondering why we "played" in that hideous clash jumper?

Surely when it is not required we should stick to our traditional strip.

So the Eagles bring the wrong strip and create a clash...we decide to wear our other strip when we dont have a clash!!

Rudderless at best.

I realise we have bigger issues....but at least play in our own frickin jumper!!

Maybe we wore it as Port have a dark colour in their strip - like us.

Bit surprised we brought the red strip out, but there is so many other things to worry about at the moment.

I like the red strip as well. It wasn't our home game so my care factor is zero.

Anything else to criticise the club for? Their choice of boots? Maybe the length of their shorts?

Geez ... it was an away game. That's what alternate strips are for. Start raining on Collingwood and Essendon for their weak attempts.

the clash jumper is OK but should be worn for the 2-3 "Away" games when there is actually a clash ie essendon, carlton maybe Stkilda

Definitely against Adelaide as well. Not sure why we were wearing it against Port but I still like it better than our Heritage guernsey!

I support the AFL on the whole concept of clash jumpers and have a go at Essendon and Collingwood supporters for not digging their head's out of the sand to see the sense in it, so I've declared my bias. That is why, for the life of me, I couldn't understand why West Coast wore the guernsey they did on Friday night. Two teams wearing all royal blue FCS

I heard that WCE brought the wrong jumpers recently, presumably this week.

Was waiting for the posts from those who wanted to stone to death our property steward, but didn't see any.

Yes it was an away game, but why on earth play in that jumper for No apparent reason? I respect Collingwood and Essendon for standing up for themselves. We just roll over on and off the field.

Its our 150 next year, shouldnt we look to maintain some sort of heritage? Keep the jumper the same unless its a clash. It is not that hard a concept to comprehend.

Heritage Jumper,

It follows our tradtional design, It's part of our history & and it's ten times better than an all red jumper.

Heritage Schmeritage. I'd much rather have players recognising each other in an instant on the field. Don't suppose you saw two players handball directly to the opposition in the Eagles v Dogs game on Friday?

We have plenty of other opportunities to wear our normal jumper (which is not the same as when we started 150 years ago anyway).

Agree Rogue.

It just did not suit those poster's self serving angst.

At least we could have got "That's just typical of the unprofessionalism of that Club..?"

Collingwood and Essendon are being petulant and self serving.

Maurie has correctly summed up the rest.

Has anyone else noticed that Bate wears a jumper from last year? It has the old Primus logo on it and I've seen him wear it twice now.

I haven't noticed that, but its a pretty good observation

I did see that on Friday night, and for that reason they should have worn a clash jumper.

Are you telling me players cant tell the difference between red and blue versus black white and teal??

At present the MFC gets pushed around at will.

There was no good reason not to wear our normal jumper.

You should tell that to the AFL. Its their call and their reasons remain a mystery

Under the rules it is the AFL's prerogative to tell Clubs when to wear the alternate strip or not. They instructed MFC to do so.

It is not the MFC Footy depts choice and I understand that they were not happy with it either.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
