Yeah, still don't see it. Will take a good mark on the odd occasion but is basically invisible outside of that. Got a very generous free for his first goal as well after tripping over his own feet. JVR also goes missing but his ceiling is a lot higher than Jefferson so far. Having both in the team doesn't work.

Keen to see Kentfield get a go and maybe even Ah-Mu at the MSD

A lot here dont get it, playing an extra Tall, Jeffo, presents a very hard match up because you are playing JVR, Checkers, Jeffo with the ever dangerous Frittata, Max slipping forward and even Moose! This will become nightmare on elm street for teams to match up on. Kentfield is slower than any of these and Ah Mu just wont make it coz he is miles away from AFL finess

@Dee*ceiving @Fat Tony @KozzyCan We would like Jeffo to make it but agree I can’t see it as yet. Drops too many marks, kicking is still not very reliable at set shots and his intensity/2nd efforts/tackles not at all there. We saw small glimpses of something on Friday night. Very small. As a 1st rounder pick and a key forward, we are still being hopeful and patient that he will make it.

We also have Kentfield and to a lesser degree, AJ, in reserve for the 3-pronged tall attack in the forward line

The other question is whether we stick with 3 talls up forward as well as the Moose

My take on it is that King is endeavouring to get ahead of the new style of football we're seeing

i.e. fast delivery forward from all areas of the field. Catching teams out before they can defend with surety

So if the result often ends up with 1 on 1's and lots of them, we need marking power up forward as well as elusive types like Fritsch, Melk, Chin & Latrelle

But a lot depends on the quality of entries and the ability of the tall forwards to impact

You'd imagine that Mihocek is a lock and probably JVR as well (more so JVR playing as a roaming half forward who can get further afield as a link

The 3rd spot is Jeffo's for now but he has to produce

Like Laurie, I hope he gets a run of games. I watched him a fair bit v Tigers, and he was very mobile at times, with repeat leading etc... and he had a good run and jump t a few. I think he actually understands the mechanics of forward play more naturally than JVR but is yet to develop full confidence in himself. I just hope he can hold his spot as the selectors have to pick a team v Sydney at the SCG where is seldom suits 3 talls.

Like others, glad to see him getting a go and think he did just OK.

I actually think he played better games last year when he lead strongly at the ball and provided a good target and focus for us in this respect.

Think he is a bit deceptive with his ability to take a contested mark - he's not a beast, but reads the ball well and puts himself in good positions to bring down pack marks in more of a Freitch like manner (but not at that level).

I honestly think it's a ballance between giving him enough of a crack at it and doing the same for Kentfield - really keen to see him get his chance, because I do think he's go more potential to take the big pack mark forward that we are currently lacking a bit except for Max (and maybe Disco / Petty, but they're up the other end).

I can't see it with Jeffo. He does jump at the ball when he gets a run at it, but to my eyes he is slightly hunched/has an awkward gait, isn't particularly imposing and his set shots are an absolute raffle.

I'd love to be wrong though. Hopefully he just needs some time to feel he belongs.

Funny that you say that Deec I’m getting the vibe that he is starting to feel like he belongs out there, he has put on some size and his height and spring will be handy as the game wears on whereas Rooo covers a lot of ground and provides that link up role further up the ground, they both did their bit and will both get their “lick of the ice cream” at different times in games. I think this is why Fritta is pushing up to the wing as another linking player, his I50’s are deadly.

Jeffo WON'T be dropped anytime soon..Coach likes the forward dynamic.

Agree. Also, noone at Casey to take his spot. Kentfield if he fires, and Jeffo fades.

Jefferson has one trick and he’s not that good at it. Compare him to Fritsch and Melksham, who have a brain and a ground game. Until he learns to win a ground ball and tackle, he is not going to make it.

During Jefferson's most recent game (Friday night) he was exactly 24 days older than Fritsch was when Fritsch made his debut for the MFC.

He is 10cm taller than both the players you mentioned, he isn't going to be selected for his ground ball wins.

But for what it's worth he had 6 score involvements from his 10 touches. When he did link up on the forward line he did he his job.

I'm not saying he is a star or will make it but some of the carry on here (both ways) is over the top.

So were Lockett, Dunstall, Williams, etc, and Jefferson is not that quick, but he is starting to put his hand up. Let's see how he goes against the swans it will be a good test.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.
