and this is why i think flagmantle can beat the bears - if they win the midfield battle, combatting treacy, nev, voss, dogga swooping around as talls plus switkowski and dudley and bolton as smalls is so, so hard

Freo have the team for sure. They really need to be aiming to finish top 4 this year. Their list doesnโ€™t have any holes.

You might say the same about Adelaide with Butts not playing this week.

Your bad pun game has really stepped up the last few weeks. Itโ€™s highly entertaining.

Crows have 8 of their best out and their whole defence.

4-5 of their best out

Iโ€™m still another ten years from even thinking about sympathy for the Blues, and twenty for their supporters. That said, Carlton did a power of work and didnโ€™t get the rewards, this not fit enough is not right I saw real effort from the Blues, but they have some albatrosses that need murdering. For every great thing Cripps does, he murders momentum with his turnovers, McKay [censored] the guy is an oversized witches hat. These โ€˜leadersโ€™ are the NQR, Iโ€™ve posted before that when our leaders wouldnโ€™t take their set shots etc it undermined the confidence of the young blokes, I think that same thing is happening at Carlton. Happy enough for North, Parker having a real Indian summer in his career such a weapon when he is on. Curtis just added some dollars to his contract, some big game moments there.

Time to start the relocate Carlton to NZ/NT rumour I reckon, theyโ€™re a blight on the competition..

Interesting to see McVee playing as a lockdown on Rankine. Didnโ€™t he leave Melbourne because he wanted to not be a lockdown defender?

Who couldnโ€™t see that coming from a mile away? Remember Jeremy Howe sooking off to Collingwood because they promised him forward line time? Played half a season as a forward before they worked out he did his best work as a defender.

Players who think they are better than they are get sold the โ€œgrass is greenerโ€ opportunity pitch, then end up just doing what they did before because it turns out, the original club knew their limitations.

Yeh but it goes both ways.

Look at Toby Bedford.

Goody gave him I think one opportunity, maybe two. Never played him again.

He left and he starts every week for GWS.

So it comes down to favorites too/politics.

Their issues are leadership and mentality

Bedford played 18 games for us.

Couldnโ€™t get a game in a premiership team. No shame in that.

Just like Jordon/Harmes etc. When you are successful you lose good players on the fringes

Thatโ€™s a bit different though. Bedford was clearly behind a glut of other like types, including ANB, Chandler etc. He didnโ€™t get tonnes of opportunities, but at the time we were hot off a flag, pressing for another one, and it was a hard team to get in to.

McVee was a best 22 player who was clearly already being given every opportunity of success. The idea that heโ€™d jump in to Freo as a running half back when theyโ€™ve already got the likes of Clark etc was ridiculously and obviously naive in my opinion.

I reckon McVee was very different to Bedford. Toby wanted more of a go. McVee was given his. Nobody wanted him and we gave him his only shot in the rookie draft. Put a year of development into him and then gave him every opportunity at senior level.

He repaid us by stringing us along, not signing the contract he said he was going to sign, and then requesting a move to the club that was 5 minutes drive from his junior club - but never looked at him once.

As others have said, heโ€™s the new Howe.

Curtin, Laird, Hinge, Ah- Chee, Butts, Keane, Draper and Cumming that I can recall.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourneโ€™s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time atย Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: โ€œIs Melbourne even at the ground?โ€ Moments later, as Carltonโ€™s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demonsโ€™ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.ย
