The basic GA membership get a very poor game day experience (in my opinion). Up in the bleachers, no seats on the wing, stuck with the majority of opposition supporters when they close off areas, or it's a game against those big supporters team.

Not many extras for GA membership.

User pays system, in this so called, not for profit organisation.

Death of the grass root supporters.

Kev I think of myself as a grass roots supporter. I am a MFC member with GA admittance. The advancing years now mean that I go to 6 or 7 games a year. No night games in winter or games with big numbers like the pies or tigers games when you end up in the nose bleed seats. The GA membership gives you two things entre to the ground and the thought you are helping the club with your membership. After that you are just another footy follower. Sadly as I still love going to games a TV watching fan is what becons beyond 2026. Will I then buy a membership? Good question I don't know the answer.

You are not alone pf.

So some people here want to "keep a lid on the kids", but are happy to virtually write one off already.

We criticised Goodwin for "playing favourites", but some here are doing the same thing with their own player preferences.

Time we gave everybody a "clean slate", like King, and allow the year to play out before making hasty judgements, in my humble opinion.

Can anyone tell me if the game is on TV today. Sorry to ask but my brain is suffering melodies from my body this morning I am just short of no patience to look through web sites. It's probably just me but I struggle with the Kayo website when searching for an event. Thank you Dlanders!

The game is tomorrow, OD. Foxtel/Kayo is the only option for watching it on TV.

I'm not sure about that, at least as far as our home games go. I have access to level two but prefer to stand in M9 (bay 13). If the weather is fine I'll sit towards to back on level one. No reserve seat. Viewing is pretty good. About 60% Dees.

Not possible against away teams (security) but you usually can access level one by entering via lower 'tunnel'.

BTW for away games where we are restricted to access at the Ponsford end, you can access the Olympic or Shane Warner stands via a tunnel that runs behind the Nembers' area.

Access the tunnel via top level of Ponsford.

Luker has taken Jeffo’s spot for tomorrow.

The practice matches will be replayed, probably the next day.

They are doing it for last night's game.

No doubt it will be due to Goodwin’s mismanagement of Jeffo and no ther reason

I figured, going by the video posted to socials yesterday that featured him, but thanks for the heads up.

That is fine but the player concerned has been at the club two years and in that time has shown little IMO. If he turns into a good half back I will be very happy in fact if he turns into any sort of good player in any position I will be happy. But right now I don't see it.

Thanks GW, see what I mean about my brain today. The up side is I have just added an extra day to what I thought at this point of the week. The ageing process is truly wonderful. If possible delay it as long as possible GW. I have Kayo, I hope they have more than one camera, last weeks game was hard to watch.

I don't think this is right. Luker and Jeffo aren't fighting for the same spot. Lucer is Gawny's back up ruck which Jeffo never is and would be playing regardless of Jeffo's selection. Luker has, if anything, taken Moose's spot.

Tom Matthews seems to have taken Jeffo's spot if you look at the forward line players. Jeffo was disappointing last week and spots for tall forwards are tight. If we keep the same structure for our opening game and Checkers is available he will take Luker or JvR's spot with the remaining player rucking. I suggest we'll go into the first game with both JvR and Luker.

It will be an interesting watch.

Luker has started ruck craft in the last few weeks but he’s a genuine Key forward who is right now being selected ahead of Jefferson in the same role.

That is my belief as well Dannyz. so far the only way Jefferson replaces Batman is if Batman gets injured.

That is probably as good as it gets for the Dees in 2026 with the exception of milkshake.

No doubt PSD. Hmm there might be a small bit of NQR involved.

As you wish but JvR is the only other ruck option and he has neither played or trained in that position under King that I've seen. Luker is second ruck backing up Gawn and removing the need to play Heath. Jeffo never plays the ruck role. I'll agree with you if JvR rucks against Richmond when Luker is playing key forward.

Not giving up on him just yet, but he needs to put together a decent season, whilst he’s shown some promising glimpses, there’s some basic controllable parts of the game he doesn’t do well

Mihocek? Culley? Viney & Bowey when they return?

I had forgotten the first two. The other two will struggle to get games this year. Viney has had no pre season and Bowey's injury will see him miss most of the season if not all.

In fairness, 15,000 people are expected to attend the Ballarat venue this weekend.

The trouble is that the number will be spread over 3 games.

9,000 …I assume. Only 3,000 tickets for each game & it is fully ticketed ..

so Culley not best 23?

Haha OD. Your pessimism levels have just about hit an all time high.

NC you surely don't think either will play a meaningful part in 2026 do you?

I think you need new batteries in your optimism meter.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
