This probably doesn't warrant a whole new topic, but I didn't know where to post it. I'm interested in the heights and weights of our draftees as they develop. So Bison was about 190cm when he arrived (not sure on weight). He is bound to get a bit taller. Do they update the height and weight of players at the beginning of each season or is 1.9m his height for the rest of his career? Likewise the rest of the draftees.

Can’t ask for weights anymore. People get upset. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I do also wonder how often the heights are updated. Really came to my attention when I was doing the 'cursed 192cm' teaser team. AFLTables and Footy wire had just slightly different heights for various players, and sometimes Wikipedia disagreed with both. The AI auto response... well...

As for weights, the only available source just says 'we are all beautiful just the way we are except Stacey from 8th grade who is a [censored] [censored], I can't wait for the reunion, I bet she's a total uggo now'.

So Stacey rejected your advances 60 years ago and you still haven’t got over it???

After reading GW's post I'm better informed. So decided to withdraw my post.

They stopped listing players’ weight in the W comp when several players were the victims of fat-shaming. Sarah Perkins was one such player. She was relentlessly bagged for being ‘overweight’ by not just online trolls but the media as well.

A group of W players on behalf of the comp campaigned to not have weight listed on player profiles.

It followed that the same was applied in the men’s.

Thanks Ghostwriter it’s a shame that rude insensitive people have robbed us of another key statistic.

Ps( how tall are Luker and Bison)😁

Luker says he’s 194cm when he gets up in the morning and 192cm when he goes to bed at night. This is a scientific fact according to him.

Bison thinks he’s 192cm but he’s not sure.

They actually aren’t measured often and when they are measured, they’re not necessarily told their height.

They’re also not told their weight.

I hope they do a better job than my medical specialist. I need to have my height and weight checked before they dose me up, and this week they had me at 183cm & 87.5kg…now, the weight I could gladly take, but I’m 188cm for gawd’s sake! As a child I’d been pointed out as being a bit of a shrinking violet, but they made me shorter than my sons!!

Trac made that change as he was so fat

Even sadder that the AFL makes decisions based on trolls.

It is, but unfortunately, what choice do they have? It only takes one troll to bring down a person’s self esteem, so when there’s a pile on, I can’t imagine how bad it must be for the targeted individual. Anyway, I suppose that we can live without that stat…the only important thing is that the club keeps across such things.

So long as they get head circumference correct it is all fine. Nurse slipped with the measuring tape once and I spent 24hrs looking up infant microcephaly.

Not entirely off topic there as I am curious about the 'lesser' or niche biometrics. Dustin Fletcher being the textbook case of playing taller on account of slightly disproportionate arm length letting him get spoils which non-mutants would not.

There also used to be a theory about certain kinds of sinewy body, again with Fletcher an archetype, which were better at recovery and long term resilience.

The biologist part of me wants to test if there's a correlation between how far apart the eyes are and which roles players tend to fill. Science says there should!

I was at the club for 10 years and the players height and weight were never measured after their initial measurements

One question I have is, is wingspan important?

Just like in the NBA, they don't only care for vertical but for horizontal spacing.

Would be interesting to know.

i agree in general mate but i’m not a fan of reactive changes based on nameless internet warriors.

Just like in cases of racism etc, deal with the trolls. Weight isn’t a big deal but it does show who is in shape and putting in time at the gym and which kids might become units when older.

Obviously i completely empathise with the impacted girls and wish they didn’t have to deal with it

100% it would be for key positions and ruck.

Look at Sam Darcy, if you can mark it out of reach if a spoil you are going to dominate

Social media needs to ensure that people who continuously abuse others are forced to supply name, address and phone number to their posts. Once that happens we can head over to grandmas basement and give them a good talking to. The same should have happened to the tech clowns in America long ago.

So, he'll be a key position forward for day games and an onballer for night games?

Hey @Ghostwriter , I remember when you originally posted that info about Luker's height, but I thought you said then that when he woke up he was 196cm and 194cm when he went to bed. (Could be just my memory playing tricks though - but would be good if that were true).

I think you’re right. I posted those first measurements on the day he said it. I hear so many heights I get them mixed up. I know for sure it’s a 2cm difference from morning to night.

When a short player takes a mark over a taller player , that short player must be taller than what he was when he was 1st measured. Alternatively an elastic tape was used to measure the height of the taller player.

The weight thing has always been such a silly non-issue. Only doctors and people trying to get thinner/stronger care about exact weights. Could you imagine someone taking a set of scales to a nightclub and only hitting on someone after they've weighed them?!!!!! Even when size matters to someone their eyes are a better judge for 'discerning' size. Player weights were such a silly stat. They fluctuate daily and whether they were because of extra fluid, fatty tissue, muscle or a full belly is relevant. But, no, the AFL would get some momentary, transient measure for players during preseason that somehow the general public would use months later when theyre doing their footy tips in August. (!)

The thing is people have always used their eyes to judge size. Whether kids want to say Amber has girl germs because she looks fat or you can see that a lanky 6'6 rookie ruckman will struggle against his opponent who is built like a brick s****ouse we dont need a scale. None of this has changed. Despite whether weights are published or not people can still fat-shame and football staff and fans can still see if players are/were fat or muscular - all regardless. We may as well include, and then not include, players' favourite colour in their stats.

Yes, and the trolls targeting players was only one reason. Another worrying factor that affected the change was that some juniors were so reluctant to have their weight disclosed they were choosing to abandon playing altogether.

The club is definitely across it. Sometimes a player is weighed before and after a training session if for example they’ve been unwell with gastro. The players are weighed more frequently than they are measured.

I worry more for the person who accepts the advances having just been weighed 😅
