Just watched Footy Confidential and they were asking Bucks about his plans for next year - looks like he won't be playing on - shock horror - there's a scoop. He did say he would prefer the role of an assistant coach as he personally doesn't think you can move straight into the main role. Also said history shows most players leave their club to learn the ropes somewhere else.

Personally, I don't particulary like him - think he is arrogant but then the black and white stripes make me instantly dislike anyone! I would, however, think he would have an enormous amount to offer in an assistant's role.

Any thoughts????

Apologies if it has been brought up before but I don't remember seeing it.......

I know its off topic, but did you notice that as Malthouse went through his losses he omitted the loss to Melbourne. I mean stating that thier worst loss of the year was a 16 point defeat to a team that has won 10 in a row, when they lost to a team that has been ravished by injuries and is struggling to play good footy is a big call.

Buckley is White and black, always will be. It would be a waste of time. He would jump ship the moment a coaching spot opened up at the pies.

Personally I think he would be a great coach, lets face it, the boy can (COULD) play.

He will not be the guy to help out the red and blue.

lol... i noticed that...was half expecting gaz to needle him on it..

Bucks is not going anywhere.. he wil remain a maggie one way or another .. thankgod

I agree- Buckley wount be going anywhere. He will stay black and white and coach there.

I'd be rapt if he joined us in any capacity..he lives football and would bring some "no nonsense" thinking which we sorely need.

Id say the fat lady is definitely warming up to ring in the end of his career. Even if he is filth...its a crappy way to end your playing days.

don't like his arrogance as a player.... BUT would love him in a coaching position. Worth a look.

People seem to be missing the point of my original post - he said history shows players usually leave the club they played at to learn the craft of coaching at another........

I personally thought he would always be black and white but that statement got me wondering and I am with True Believer - don't like his arrogance as a player but I am sure he would have a lot to offer our side as an assistant coach.

Definately offer him an Assistants role and Look after the Midfield, I would love to see him passing his knowledge to Brock, Jones etc.

I agree with you - the huge pool of young talent we have would benefit greatly from having Mr Buckley guiding them along.

Besides - it would be worth paying mega bucks to get Bucks - just to [censored] Eddie Everywhere off!

Ok this may sound a bit dodgy........

A friend told me that it was reported on SEN tonight (wed) that Melbourne have actually spoken to Buckley regarding a potential coaching position.

So can anyone in here confirm or deny if there is any truth to this?

Posted

It was suggested on SEN tonight that Melbourne SHOULD speak to Buckley, I don't think it was said that we already have. I heard the first hour of Mark Fine's show, that's where it came up.

Would love to have him as an assistant.

Not sure how he'll cope moving straight from playing to senior coaching though.

He can come down as a midfield coach... wasn't he a Melbourne supporter growing up?;)

He's pretty much been an assistant all year this year though, given he hasn't played.

Infact he probably has more coaching experience than Voss at this point.

Would throw an interesting cork in the ocean if he was to become available.

Still like Ratten though.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
