Don't know why they would lie to us like that.

It’s looking a little better but the club’s depth is certainly still being challenged.

Injury List: Round 1

Jai Culley — arm / available

Bayley Fritsch — hand / available

Jack Henderson — sacrum / available

Brody Mihocek — concussion / available

Andy Moniz-Wakefield — knee / available

Shane McAdam — Achilles / 2-4 weeks

Matthew Jefferson — foot / 4-6 weeks

Aidan Johnson — knee / 4-6 weeks

Luker Kentfield  — knee / 4-6 weeks

Kalani White — glandular fever / 4-6 weeks

Jake Bowey — foot / 8-10 weeks

Tom Campbell — neck / TBC

Jack Viney — Achilles / TBC

So after all that we’ve ended up with 2 clear cut best 23 out, and as much as Viney would be handy only one in Bowser who could be vital for the way we want to play.

And most of the 23 we do pick on the weekend will have done a very solid block of the preseason.

Bummer about Luker and Jeffo but it seems they’ve both escaped longer injury and can be back running sooner than later.

Good to see Culley and Fritta available for round one, both have put the work in over the off season and deserve their crack at it from the start.

I'm really hopeful the AMW can start to press his claim through Casey.

Of that list if there’s two best 23 out, Viney and Bowey (although it’s a tricky exercise to work out which mid to drop for Viney), and MAYBE one of Jefferson, Johnston and Kentfield would’ve got a game, but all three can’t play together.

Casey’s depth will be challenged but only 2/3 best 23 missing from the 1s is a hell of a lot better than we were looking a month ago and leaves us with a pretty damn good team which will have some tough choices at selection. Also with AMW available we finally have the small lockdown defender many have been crying out for, if he can find last preseasons pre-injury form lookout. I wouldn’t want to have to pick the team this week, some very good exciting players will miss.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

When the Demons blew their 46-point lead at Marvel Stadium in Round 20 last year, the fallout was enormous. Like an event straight out of a Shakespearean tragedy, Melbourne’s final-quarter collapse left fans reeling and the club grappling with the aftermath.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

The Dees ran another clinic for the second week in a row as they easily accounted for the Tigers in the lightning interrupted shortened match at Mars Stadium in Ballarat.

  • VOTES: Richmond

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.
