2026 Injury List

Featured Replies

With the long term injury of Viney, can we get another player, like they did with Henderson?

Canโ€™t recall the term for it.

Just reported on CH9 news, โ€œViney's Achilles injury could keep him out for the whole season โ€œ

If Viney is going to miss the best part of a year with an Achilles- I wonder if he retire? Seems a guy who is pretty honest with himself.

If there is any chance of him recovering even in 12 months I doubt if he would retire (Mc Adam hasn't and looks to be fully cooked) - but he could go on the long term injury list (am I right in thinking that it needs to be be a full season ending injury?) allowing an additional player to be added as the case with Culley last off season.

Not sure.. If anything I see the opposite. Reckon he will be hungry to return.

In the meantime, I suspect we will open up a list spot with SPP prospect if either May or Viney aren't available for the year.

Injury list
Jake Bowey (foot) - round 13
Max Gawn (finger) - available
Jack Henderson (sacrum stress fracture) - tbc Round 1-2
Bailey Laurie (fractured hand) - tbc Round 1-2
Brody Mihocek (toe) - tbc Round 1-2
Harry Sharp (hamstring)- tbc Round 1
Jack Viney (achilles) - indefinite

Jai Culley (Arm/shoulder) - TBA

Mihocek arguably shouldnโ€™t be on the injury list given heโ€™s been in full training and match sim the last fortnight.

Whatโ€™s the go with Salem and CJ?

I donโ€™t know, but I donโ€™t think they are in full training now.

Agree, Viney wonโ€™t retire.

He will strive to play as long as possible and will believe if he misses this year, he will come back next year fresh and ready to go for a couple more seasons.

If May retires and McAdam doesnโ€™t get fit, we could have 3 spots and then again TC has a neck injury and at 34 may not want to risk further injury, who knows.

achilles are best solved when snapped, snap it you have surgery and a definitive timeline, just inflamation and pain and tenderness, there is no surgery for that viney is in that boat and an achkilles at 31 that could spell the end for some

Isnโ€™t that the method for plantar fascia?

Thank gawd for that. Should hopefully be able to maintain fitness fairly well during recovery.

That would depend upon whatever injury May is currently suffering is classified as a season ending injury

See Deezone above

The question was -Do we know whats up with Luker Kentfield?

Can't find any reference to that in this thread

No, it would mean he would go on the inactive list if he was to say retire and then that frees up a list spot.

I think itโ€™s referenced that heโ€™s recovering from concussion.

Iโ€™m going to guess itโ€™s a similar injury to Spargoโ€™s Achilles which they tried to heal without surgery due to the 12 month recovery from the op. Looks like theyโ€™ve done the same with Jack. Not a great situation for him to find himself in.

Might not see him at all in 2026!

More likely McAdam

Has he had another setback?

Its coming up 1w months to the injury, he would need to miss a significant chunk of time for us to open up a list spot.

Unless you're talking retirement?

Thanks - so that would free a spot but of course not salary space

It's a hard one. A bit like the mid year draft. Do you take a chance on an undrafted player on a minimum contract that at best has a one in five chance of making the firsts or just save a few dollars.

My guess is we save a few dollars and the spots before drafting at years end. As I understand this will be the last draft before the Tasmanian experiment.

Casey could be challenged this year to say the least.

It is 12 months since he was been close to being on the field. He is still just jogging laps, if he is seen at all.

Mature age recruits at Casey are Miller Bergman (Kangas) Luamon Lual (Bombers). The academy boys are Coates League under-18s recruits - Stingrays: Toby Sinnema, Tairon Ah-Mu

I cannot think of any other train on players, and unaware if we could poach similar guys training at other clubs to cover long term injuries

You can poach other train on players if they are happy to join your club.

As it stands we are going into the season with up to 4 players who may not be available for selection for the majority of the season. Thatโ€™s just not acceptable to the coaching department surely? Bowey, Viney, McAdam and May. Club needs to make some tough LTI decisions pronto!

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

Itโ€™s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle โ€“ perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
