Really loved Gehrigs forceful push of a female.

Pathetic gutless bogan

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDdFop29MJg...924%26page%3D12

He only pushed her. What do you expect him to do when he has some nagging tiprat [censored] from st kilda in his face. His mate has just had a pool ball thrown at him.

Lawrence is the only one who should be in trouble but are we really surprised?

Voss' hit looked more like a slap just to let the wanka know what he has done. Nothin in that. Couldn't catch Blacks kick so dont know about that.

Voss gave an [censored] a slap for endangering a team mate and stirring up aggro in the pub. Big deal. If he'd wanted to do some damage he could've. But he didn't. And we couldn't tell what that idiot was mouthing at him anyway.

It was more like 'get off home sonny, it's past you're bedtime' but here's a goodnight kiss.

It could have been a lot worse.

It was stupid but it in no way puts me off Voss as our next coach. Fire Up!

That's be Voss's coaching career there and then I'd reckon. Good choice to go drinking with Steven Lawrence & Fraser Gehrig.

Are you serious?

Christ, the man threw a ball at his mate's head. I'd have punched him too.

As for Fraser Gehrig, the man is an animal, and I've seen him behave like an idiot with my own eyes.

Voss looked pretty restrained to me. It was a stupid thing to do, no doubt, but given they were probably all drunk and provoked, he could have done much worse.

Besides, I couldn't care less what he does outside of football. He has been nothing but outstanding as a leader of his football club and this competition for many years.

Restrained or not, we need someone to coach us with a bit of mongrel in him. This is the 21st century. I say let's get him!

With the greatest of respect Jaded, are you serious?

Footballers are criticised regularly on this forum (rightly in my view) for the stupid things they do while drunk. Walking outside and punching a bloke standing there with his hands by his side is beyond stupid. How was he "restrained"? Because he didn't hit him with a billiard cue?

Likewise, it is entirely relevant what he does outside the football club and that affects how he is seen as a leader of both the club and the competition. I know you don't think that the Didak, Cousins, Kerr, etc. situations had no effect on their respective clubs so I am at a loss as to how you don't think this, at least to some extent, tarnishes his reputation as a leader of the competition.

If a current coach got involved in a bar brawl and shown throwing a punch in the circumstances that appear to be shown on that tape, they would be sacked.

I think Michael Voss has not done himself any favours what so ever. Yeah it's all good that he has mongrel in him etc etc. The good thing about Neale Daniher was he was out there selling our club to the media and the fans. Michael Voss himself was a role model to the younger kids as a player, but this latest incident (so to speak) doesn't send the right message to young fans. To be honest our supporter base isn't that big to start with. Someone like Guy McKenna, Brett Ratten or John Longmire, good players, good footy brains, HAS SERVED apprentichips as assistants and last but not least, you don't see them in the S**T for getting into a blue. Im sure the bloke that threw the cue ball is a complete tool, but there are other ways and means of dealing with a situation like that.

Has Michael Voss EVER done anything to compromise Brisbane's reputation?

This incident is hardly a reason to hang him. Our own captain has done worse.

I couldn't care less what he does outside of football, as long as he represents this club with respect, and as I said, he has been one of the best representatives of AFL throughout his career. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the incident occurred after he retired, did it not?

If that's the reason we don't make him coach, we're a weak club that won't go anywhere.

Thankfully, this incident won't even come into consideration because it has no relevance to his abilities as coach, mentor, or front man of the MFC.

BTW, you can't compare punching someone who has just attacked your friend, to hanging with criminals, assaulting women, taking and possibly distributing illegal drugs and so on.

ok, so if Voss gets the job - avoid establishments such as the Prince of Wales, not the most high end place going around and avoid hanging out with the likes of Gehig's and avoid Steven Lawrence. Time to grow up Vossi.

Wake up Deelicious, asumming you're a female too. 'Tiprat' or not, you don't deserve to be pushed around and threatened by a lug twice your size.

If he is not made the Melbourne coach, I doubt that will be the only reason but it will and should be a contributing factor. There are enough other reasons to choose someone else (coaching experience springs to mind) but reputation, and I don't just mean in a football sense, counts for a lot.

You may be right in saying that it has no relevance to his abilities as a coach or mentor but I don't agree that it has no relevance to being the "front man of the MFC". At the moment, it is difficult to tell exactly what the fall-out will be although it has already cost him an ambassadorial role with the Qld government. If he is convicted that damage will be magnified but the video is pretty damaging in itself.

As for saying it occurred after he retired, that again may be correct. However, he had or was shortly to sign a contract with Channel 10 commentating on AFL and as a coach with the AFL/AIS academy. This, in combination with his stated desire to be a senior coach, means that his behaviour clearly affects the AFL's reputation and his reputation as an ambassador of the game. I don't accept that the assault that appears to be shown on the footage is acceptable for anyone, and it's a pretty slippery slope to argue that taking drugs (agree completely with distributing them however), hanging out with criminals (although not doing anything illegal himself) or assaulting a man vs woman is more bad than punching someone at a pub who wasn't expecting it while drunk.

FWIW, I selected Voss in the poll as to MFC's next coach that was on here a little while back just ahead of Ratten and a few others. This incident IMO tips the scales.

The man threw a punch... hang him! <_<

For god's sake, are we so precious and innocent ourselves that we persecute anyone who does something stupid while drunk?

Voss is a human being. He stuffed up. He is still a champion of the game, and will make an excellent coach.

Ross Lyon sounds like he is falling asleep in press conferences and has the charisma of a wet towel, but has a clean record... I know who I rather be the face of Melbourne.

Michael Voss is a role model whether he likes it or not. So are all footballers. If they dont like it they should head to the VFL. Its called walking away

He wasn't a footballer at the time of the incident.

While at Brisbane, he was as outstanding off the field, as he was on it.

It's called "grog"

Isn't it always.....

And for the record while I didn't necessarily like to see what happened I don't think it should or will change the fact that Voss seems to be the favourite for the job.

I have no idea, and I am guess that no-one else here willing to automatically think the worst knows, what the catalyst for the fight was, but on that footage it does not look like the player we are all paying attention to did much more than defend a friend against an attack from a pool ball

And having actually been hit in the head by both a ball and a cue in a brawl, I can expertly say that it really is not much fun and ended up in stitches

I agree that anyone attached to Melbourne needs to maintain the respect of and for the club. But until this point had anyone ever heard of anything Micheal Voss had done to disgrace the Lions? And if so what makes you think he would be a disgrace at the Dees. And he doesn't compare to the others brought up here.

In fact I was unbelievably surprised that he and Black were involved in such a thing and even when the new broke ages ago, I honestly believed that there had to be an external mitigating factor or extreme provocation for these two to get caught up in something like this.

But in the end and despite all of this, he still has my vote (and confidence) for coach next season :) !!!

Indeed. Didn't think QC was the type to get in pub brawls

Not at all but I think you've missed my point.

It's difficult to assess the backlash against Voss at the moment because the video has only just come to light but it's fair to say there will be one, particularly if he's found guilty at court. The fact is that he made a bad error of judgment. I'm not saying hang him but he's not a 20 year old kid either.

I had Voss marginally ahead of Ratten for various reasons, an important one of which is being the face of the club. If Voss' reputation is tarnished, and I think it will be, then that puts Ratten ahead in my view. I doubt that it will count him out altogether but it will be a consideration
