A long enough interview - even with 3 minutes of blah blah blah from a sponsor. We all love Gawn but I get the feeling he's as well-trained as a politician to stay on message and never blurt anything out.

Don’t really want to listen if it’s politician talk where there’s nothing really said even though something is said.

He won some BS award for most valuable tall sponsored by a company that sells tall timber. Everything's new at the club so hes excited about next year. We probably havent developed enough of our youth - if Geelong won the recent GF maybe 14 of their participants would be new premiership players. The league has talented ruckmen and ruckwork evolves. Gawn loves sports, especially cycling - all he can gain from it is improving fitness techniques. He's doing a lot of running at home. Wnen he retires he'll probably run a marathon. My final memory is that Trac and Oliver were such a big part of the club. He's still cloae with them, especially Oliver, but concedes they needed a new start. Hw hopes Oliver regains his form and wins a Brownlow. (So nice enough stuff but hardly "must-listen")

thanks mate.

Funny how no one mentions Trac. Tbh I love it. He must have loved himself so much that everyone else resented him.

Sounds a lot like every interview max has done since trade week...

I think that you hear what you want to hear, he said that he is excited by the changes at the club he enjoys being in the conversation each year as to who is the best big man in the league and hope he can remain in the conversation for the next couple of years. He said that everyone who knows Kingy say’s that he is a ripping bloke. He mentioned seeing Goody at the races and as mentioned he loves Claz and Tracc they will always be premiership heroes, etc but now understands that they need a change. He met the sponsor of the Best Big Man in the AFL competition and was very complimentary about all the Rucks that featured heavily in the competition ( Max was the clear winner racking up 60 votes next best 36). He mentioned that he is now in a heavy running program running around 50 km/week and breaks it up a bit doing some 10k runs and as DS mentioned he wants to run a marathon once he retires.

Yep! I did mention that he mentioned Tracc. It wasnt like an acceptance speech at the Brownlow where you mention anyone and everyone. Gawn said he's close with both guys BUT Oliver lived with his family for months making that friendship just a little stronger. Maybe he's furious with Tracc. Maybe he's furious with Green & co for sacking Goody. But who knows. As annoying as it is hearing vetted stuff if he admitted the above about Tracc or Goody and we're 1-5 next year as always the media would tuck into Gawn and the team's morale/culture.

it was telling at the B&F that none of the players applauded Trac when he came second, or when he was given his life membership. Bridges have been burnt.

Didn’t see that - sounds like it would have been very awkward to observe.

I was having a lengthy conversation with a staffer who was telling me how much the rest of the playing group have little time for him anymore. He and Clarry in particular have had a massive falling out, to the point that apparently in that famed 12 minute meeting he said "I'm not hanging around if that c&*^ is still at the club". It was uncomfortable hearing that! She also mentioned she heard several groans from some players when Trac said in his speech that "footy is just a job". Many felt then he was leaving.

Gawn has done two interviews now where he says how much he loves Clarry when asked about both of them.

He can hardly bag Trac but I think there is an underlying message there.

I witnessed Trac chatting away at training when Gawn was trying to address the group. I couldn’t believe the disrespect.

Both legends of the MFC but both needed to go for different reasons.

I’m with Gawn on this I hope Clarry does well at GWS.

I mentioned at the time that we gave Oliver away, that shows how much the club wanted him gone. There is a interesting story of Oliver and the MFC that has yet to be told. I think the breaking point was the night he spent with Smith that ended up with him in hospital. Oh to be a fly on the wall.

There are enough threads on Oliver but you couldn’t be a Melbourne fan without wanting the best for him.

I understand that Max is the man that is most wanted from the media and he himself possibly sees the benefit for a career post football, however I hope that with this clean slate comes new voices and perspectives. Max is very well versed and as people have said above a politically astute talker, but getting a little tiresome for me.

I’m hopeful a new group of leaders step up and take the media load that Max has had to shoulder for the best part of 3 years.

At least Max knows, and obviously internally also given the delistings we have made, that we have failed to re-generate the list compared with Geelong.

Sadly we still have the same basic problem for the coming year, our first 23 has too many players over the age of 29 who WILL play this year because we have no-one to replace them.

There is an outside chance some kids might get blocks of games subject to fitness/injuries. King is quite good that way.

We're not winning a flag next year... just bedding down our game... then revise. Jmho.

It would have been so hard to play well if arguably 2 of the main 3 players were causing so many problems.

Forget the haunting of Round 11 — we’ve got this. Melbourne returns to its inner-city fortress for its milestone 100th AFLW match, carrying a formidable 10–2 record at IKON Stadium. Brisbane’s record at the venue is more balanced: 4 wins, 4 losses and a draw.

It’s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brilliance—mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
