I just realised something… we definitely won’t lose tonight for I’m wearing white jeans and whenever I wear white jeans to the footy we win (men’s and women’s). The reason I’m conscious of this is because also whenever I wear white jeans I spill food or drink on them and I sit on the train home stained with coffee/tomato sauce/Pepsi Max or like last time, soy sauce, and think to myself, well at least we won.

Y’all are very welcome 🤗

Yep… what did I tell y’all. Finally I’m using my clumsiness for good and not evil. Tonight’s stain is Lindt chocolate. And despite a bottle of Mount Franklin at Mordor costing an arm and a leg, it won’t wash chocolate out of jeans 😫

Demons star cleared of concussion after collision with te...

Kate Hore has been cleared of concussion after Saturday's win over Geelong

Phew. 😌

I sat near all of the players who weren’t playing and was a bit star struck. One of them had to sit away from them because she had a cold/flu (maybe LJ?). Then at half time I heard a gentleman I knew ask Alyssa Pisano and Jemma Rigoni how Jacinta Hose is coming along and they were both very enthusiastic about her progress. Turns out he is her grandfather!

You can get them at home games and the Demon Shop.

This is one I was wearing tonight…

And when I was coming off the ground after banner a woman approached me, pointed to my badge and said, “That’s my daughter!” We chatted for a bit then she said, “Oh and you’ve got Denby’s number on your jumper!” I didn’t have the heart to tell her it’s on my jumper because Melky. But tonight #18 was all about Dingo.

The #33 jumper and badge stayed home tonight because LJ was omitted. But something tells me they may never see the light of day again 😕

Sadly, they're pretty easy dots to join, aren't they, G?

Thank goodness for Hore, Hanks, Fitzsimon, Gillard and Heath who got us over the line against a side that finished 12th.

Once again we were shown to be vulnerable against pressure.

Our game plan is suspect against pressure...I'm not sure how we fix it as it's ingrained.

...but it makes us the best team in the AFLW to watch by far when it's on.

Gee we've had some injuries and challenges this year. A great effort to lock down a top 2 finish.

I'm not super confident, but if we can put 4 quarters of our best footy together, we can roll anyone.

To borrow the words of others, this sums it up for me!

I felt that our players' marking ability pretty much deserted them, which cost us down the line. I also thought we were really shaky with ball in hand - and struggled to GET it in hand - at times. And there were some diabolical turnovers by foot.

Prespakis is a jet (and the umpires love her). I'm glad our final match-up was against a real midfield though. The weaknesses are obvious and honestly probably difficult to rectify at this point...

But if you'd told me we'd finish top 2 at the start of this season, even with the easy fixture factored in, I'd have been happy with that (especially considering, yes it's no excuse, but injuries). If we'd played every team, I think we'd be placed around 5th-8th. Though I think we'd have worked into a longer season...

From here it's about winning. Doesn't have to be pretty.

One of the positives was that we were on the right side of scoring accuracy for once, thanks particularly to Zank's 4.0.

At halftime there were some players who really needed to lift. Hanksy was one and responded in a big way. She'll need some friends in the next few weeks. Relatedly, was it a mirage or was that Purcell I saw getting up to a light jog across the field back to the coaches box at one point? If true, a long way to go, of course, but good to see for 2026!

I also loved Gillard's goal. All the Dees fans were positioned behind her and very aware that the handpass from Fitzy was on, so there was a great buildup. And a big cheer off for her soon after. We've had Rigoni, Chaplin and Gillard break through in the last three weeks, so who's next (just to distract us from that other goalkicking milestone 😅)? For those playing at home, the listed Dees without a goal are: Colvin, Dethridge, Ebert, Hose, Mahony, O'Hehir, D.Taylor, S.Taylor...I think that's it.

Random thoughts.

How good was Galls handball receive tap back to Lampard in the last quarter that went to Campbell who then kicked to Zanker who goaled. Play of the day.

I have worked out that I have a subconscious Hanks over Hore bias. The goal Tyler kicked where she tackled, cleanly picked up the loose ball, ran past the Geelong players to kick truly had me off the couch yelling ‘she’s just too good!’ Then Kate kicks the Petracca from the pocket (Mahoney playing the Picket role) and I was way less celebratory than I should have been.

Campbell is coming on nicely isn’t she. Only 42% game time but 8 disposals, 9 hit outs a couple of tackles but also 2 clearances and that goal assist.

Tahlia Gillard is getting better with every match back. Handy timing coming into finals

Bannon needs some Shelley Heath tackling lessons. I know the high half forward role is a difficult one to play but she is having very little influence on the game. I think she is possibly a bit lucky that there isn’t much pressure on her position. Having said that she is just as likely to kick 3 next week and I’ll be calling her an integral part of the team.

Aside from her faux pas of burning off Zanker standing by herself in the square Maggie Mahoney is looking like she is fitting in nicely.

Wotherspoon is going to be worrying opposition teams for many years to come. Has a great combination of speed, strength and some size

They are 😕 She maintains if she’s offered another contract she’ll accept it but I’ve seen that movie too.

Shelley Heath tackling

We really need to talk about this. Firstly… WTF?! I never tire of seeing her drag someone down with such ferocity, regardless of their size. She sticks tackles like her life depends on it. Then she springs up and sets about laying another bone-cruncher. She’s diminutive in stature and not at all imposing to look at but she’s 10ft tall with the strength of a bull when she’s out on the field. Love Heater so much.

Well that's good Kate got cleared last night. Just hope there's no delayed symptoms.

So is our final next week likely to be at casey or ikon?

At this stage it will definitely be at Ikon. The club is pushing for Casey but I doubt that will happen

...or, should the Lions keep the Pies scoreless and slot 30 goals themselves in the remaining 3 quarters, we'll have to return to the scene of our Premiership glory.

Hmmm...

Me?

Or you? You'd get to return the favour and host @Ghostwriter then!

But looks like we're all safe, though: Lions piling up the scoring shots, but the wrong sort! 😄

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
