Fair enough. But other people may like former MFC players. I’m sure there are some MFC fans who still list Jesse Hogan or Jack Watts for example among their favourites

I can’t get down to Gosch’s today. But I’ll be able to for the captain’s run on Friday. Can you hold on ā€˜til then? šŸ˜…

Max explained to the MMM crew the other day that they are in full running training at the moment and that the bulk of the running will be completed when they get back for preseason so that the footies come out on Day 1. Surprised me a bit, he also mentioned that he does the majority of his running on bitumen or concrete rather than grass and has done for a number of years now.

Wonder if this is for stability for wonky knees?

A mate of mine is a professional cyclist and has been for many, many years. TDF stage winning level.

He had some hilarious advice for me many years ago which I love to repeat.

When it comes to protecting your body, If you are running on concrete, find bitumen as it’s softer. If you are running on bitumen, find gravel. If you are running on gravel, find grass.

Likewise for recovery (which they take very seriously).

If you are standing up, you should sit down. If you are sitting down, you should lie down.

Thats my philosophy on life

Why? Tracc and Claz may well still be a couple of M_9’s favourite players.

Claz stays. Tracc - yeah ... nah.

Thanks for that, great insights

So the PA and CBA doesn't help players in this instance, just denies them access to the club, coaches and facilities while they do the running portion of preseason. Also makes it harder to keep tabs on the players that are likely to go off the rails without structure.

I’ve not ever listed either of them as favourites* but I do have their bobble heads and they’ll remain intact. They will forever be premiership players and MFC legends.

*I did have Judd as a favourite but he’s my version of your ā€œyeah… nah.ā€

Agreed. I'm choosing to 'forget' that my favourite player played for the Bulldogs.

Clarrie was using the facilities at AAMI as recently as two weeks ago, as were Kolt, Luker and Tommy Fullarton a few weeks prior to that. I’m guessing AAMI is accessible to all players during the running portion šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

I'm reading The Secret Race at the moment and Tyler Hamilton says just that. His wife wanted to go for walks and he was not interested. Cyclists are only made for sitting on bikes.

Not sure if there is a better thread for this but I walked past goschs this morning and saw 15-20 of the boys all in plain clothes doing an intense running session.

was only walking past at a distance so can’t offer in depth analysis but a couple of things I noticed.

Chin was moving well and fast!

Max Heath is ginormous!! (Made some of the lads look like school boys)

I’ve often said that my recovery is elite.

Does "plain clothes" mean not in official red and blue gear? or were they about to arrest someone for breaking the law?

I drove past and presumed they'd be several track reporters on site for this. You can imagine my dismay when I realised they weren't there.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.Ā
