Now becomes pick 30 and the fifth pick of the second night. Who do we go for, a midfielder?

Why did it become pick 30?

I think it's because Richmond forced other teams to bring forward their intended picks by matching bids? Is that correct?

The whole draft thing is a bit of daft numberwang

Eg. West Coast bid on 4 academy/fs picks in top 17, which gobbled up a lot of picks to match

Sorry I meant Eagles. And yes that makes sense, much better explanation thanks

Don't know enough about Hibbins-Hargraves to comment but I do like his name....he's one off the big time

Fingers crossed for HH at this point.

If we could nab him, it would really finish of our draft period very nicely.

I'm also warming to Ludowyke. Between NHH and Ludowyke they're probably the two I am most keen on.

I'm agonistic on Greeves, but I tend to feel that between Steele, Viney and potentially Langford (depending on continued development and role), we're okay for that primary ball winner player.

Still think we will bid on Kye Finch.

What sort of players is he Dazz?

@dazzledavey36 agree. Kye Fincher had a good year. It would be interesting to push the Saints to see if they matched a bid. Alongside Rory Wright 😊& Jack Dalton, Fincher was the Dragons best player this year imv.

185cm Inside/outside midfielder who can also play off a half back as well so has that versatility.

He has a bit of that explosiveness burst out of stoppages but has really clean hands in tight as well and is a pretty neat kick of the footy.

His debut VFL game this year for Sandringham he played majority as an inside mid and had 26 disposals, 6 tackles and 4 clearances which shows that there is no doubt he could easily step up to senior footy next year.

Fits the modern game which is athletic profile as well.

Be very annoying to be beating by Saints to another player this year.

I admit to knowing nothing about this year’s draft potentials, but Ludowyke was a touted top 5 pick before injury.

I don’t see a chance to get a big key forward ( he is 197 cms )top 5 pick type in the near future and to me this is a huge opportunity if the kid makes it.

We could move Petty and maybe even AJ back, when Tom and May go next year and we could solve our key forward and key back areas with one selection.

2 first rounders next year will give us access to mids or whoever in a stronger draft.

To me this is a huge opportunity.

I would rather punt his type than another flanker.

What do you guys who know more think?

Agree Redleg, I'd go after Ludowyke if he's still available (North are expected to pick him though). A potential gun key forward is too hard to pass up, even if we have plenty already. We still have pick 56 to pick up a midfielder later if needed. Someone like Sam Allen, Onley, Holmes could still be there at that range.

Minus concussion, NHH would surely be a top 20 selection. He can kick them from anywhere, has good trickiness and game awareness. I wonder firstly whether he'll get to us and then secondly what JT thinks of him.

As an aside targeting 37 from GC in the Trac trade has proven to be a shrewd bit of business considering how much it’s come in / who is still on the board

Ludowyke looks very promising! Absolutely agree with this rational. There isn't a development spot for him but he's too good to pass. Yes, North wld be likely unless they go for the key back.

Onley looks a great midfielder too.

I haven't paid a heap of attention to the whole draft class this year, at least outside of the individuals I've been interested in so my views are likely somewhat limited. But I agree with most of your comments on Ludowyke; you'd be selecting him on potential, but I don't really have any qualms on that and realistically, that's what we've taken L Pickett on too. Sometimes you can become a benefactor of circumstance and while it's unlucky for Ludowyke that he was injured and slid, it could really put us in a good place, especially given there are questions on the development of Jefferson and Kenterfield is still unproven.

Hibbins-Hargreaves is a player I've liked all the way through. Similar to Ludowyke, he's a bit of a pick on potential, but his versatility and class is something that could really add to the Melbourne team. I think he could become a strong distributor for us into the forward 50, and he's also able to hit the scoreboard. Ideally, he could become the ANB replacement we're really missing and his conversion rate on shots at goal went at 82% this year, another area we've struggled in.

Greeves looks good on paper and he clearly has a nice pedigree to him, but I'm a bit reticent as I think the game is moving past those traditional big-bodied mids. Yes, you still need an extractor at the ball, but look how we struggled with spread and transition since 2022 with Oliver, Viney and Petracca all in the side. Some of the knocks on Greeves also relate to his two way running, general running capacity, defensive spread and attitude towards defensive work rate have been questioned.

I agree with your point about next years draft too, it's a good opportunity to pick up two mids. We're still going to be hunting Humphrey next year too, so lets not discount that as a potential acquisition which will require some clever maneuvering capital wise, if we're successful.

There’s a few red flags: concussion, recurring calf injuries, lack of contested possession and lack of improvement at Coates league where he’s basically the same player now at 18 as he was debuting at 16.

But at some stage the talent outweighs the negatives.

We’ve also drafted a junior team mate of Windsor, Kolt and Lindsay. Which is probably more coincidence than by design, but Harvey is the only one we haven’t paired up.

I would have loved Cooper Hynes. Maybe Harvey is mates with Sinnema...

We aren’t using that pick unless maybe we need to for White. Pass or trade for a F4 most likely.

No reason to have more than 36 on the senior list and better to keep a train on spot for Sinnema and other hungry mature agers.

I might be an outlier here, but I am hoping for Thredgold - high marking, attacking, mobile 194cm interceptor. We seem to have some decent existing and prospective mids, and if you take elders May and Tmac out of the defensive mix, I think we look a bit thin, plus Lever always has a question mark over his availability.
