16 Tackles in yesterday’s game. Is that a record?

Thanks so much Saints..What a bargain

Also, on the character front, he is said to be both honest and selfless. Exactly what we needed. Saints losing him has a decidedly junior mac feel about it.

So stoked we have him.

I doubt we'll hear about Jack Steele being in Circus or revolver until 6am in the morning

a proper professional and leader to have at the club for our rebuild. Great pick up.

Two little things about Jack:

At our “Family Day” at Gosch’s last year (13th December) Kingy told us it was Jack’s birthday. I got one of our beautiful handmade cupcakes, put it in a cute little cake-box and gave it to Jack. Maybe it’s because he was new to the club but he was so surprised and genuinely moved by the gesture. A week later at training he made a point of thanking me again and saying it made him feel welcome to our club.

So, there was a snippet of an interview that someone posted on here a couple of weeks ago where Jack openly and honestly shared his feelings about being let go by the Saints. It was obvious he still had some sadness at having to leave. Couple of days later, at Gosch’s, I asked him if he’s happy at our club. He knew I was referring to those comments. He went on to say that yes he is happy with us and everyone has been wonderful and he’s still adapting but bottom line, he’s happy.

I went to park myself at my usual spot and he went to put on his boots. But before running out on the park, he came over and said, “I really am happy here… I’m actually very happy!”

Just little things except huge things at the same time.

You have to wonder why Lyon would let a player like Steele go? (so easily) Doesn't make sense

Anyway, their loss is our gain and without Viney's dogged style and relentless attack on the ball, we'd fall well short without Steele as well (Kozzie & Gawn aside)

As well as developing our young mids, King needs to find a way for Steele & Viney to work together as mids

Many thanks for a terrific insight.

My view of Steele is what would we do without him.

Improves us bigtime and gives the young midfield brigade a sorely needed mentor we have lacked since 2023.

He's very reminiscent of our recruitment of guys like Daniel Cross and Jordan Lewis. He's never going to star each week, but you can always count on him working his guts out and being an absolute professional.

If we get this sort of output from him for the next two years then it's an absolute win for us.

Saints have blown this. It reminds me of when we got rid of James McDonald, this set us back 5 years

I reckon he'll be our best recruit since Bernie Vince

More of a steal than bargain

Fantastic game thanks Jack - a tackling monster.

We'd be rooted without him.

He and Gawn were holding us together in the middle early yesterday, until we got going later.

Sticks his tackles (would have been a focus for everyone after the poor tackling efforts vs Fremantle, but he nails that brief week in, week out). Doesn't shirk. Runs both ways.

What a gift. You’ve got Essendon and North Melbourne captains begging to get out, setting everything on fire on the way out. Then you’ve got St Kilda, giving away their heart and soul captain who doesn’t want to leave, basically for free, and breaking his heart in the process.

Thanks again Saints.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
