Farewell Christian Petracca

I'm still amazed how much we got for Tracc. There are arguments whether it's accurate to say we got the equivalent of pick #1. But I reckon if we insisted on upgrading we'd at least be guaranteed to swap 7 and 8 for 4. As teams get better with choosing the best picks what would you expect from a number 4? Tracc might play a 100 games for the Suns , as well mentor young players and somewhere along the way he does enough on the ground one year that he helps GC win extra H&A games of finals or even kicks two goals in a GF Suns win by one goal. But very easily he may only play 60 games while our 7&8 play 350 games from next year and combined are better than a slightly lesser post-Kings Birthday player (or that #4 outperforming Trac with 200 games and a Brownlow)

Trac trained with Zac Merritt today, at Arden Street, how weird.

They ran into each other at a gym and decided to go for a run. I’m guessing Arden Street was nearby.

Would have been fascinating chats about the trade period 😂

Cale Morton or Jimmy Toumpas? 😜

I have no intel on this, but I wouldn't be surprised if they have us playing Gold Coast on opening round on the Saturday 3:20pm slot. VIC labour day weekend.

The Trac factor could come into play with this one and the AFL would like to have a side story to the game.

Then in round 1 we play an MCG home game.

All of this is pure speculation by me.

I wonder what Max thoughts are on him? What were the discussions they had at the end of 24 when the leaders met at the restaurant, his speech at ts B&F it’s a job..

Would it be mean of us to create a scenario where we kick the ball just a smudge over the Brands head causing him to run back with the flight.

Not suggesting we get anyone to deliberately clean him up but I’d love to see if he goes back with the flight of the ball.

That's not deliberate, that's normal for us, to kick it over the target. Hope Tracc doesn't get in the way

As an aside from the other father son thread currently doing the rounds. Will Christian play 100 games for the Gold Coast, and... if selected, where would a son or daughter play.

I cbf looking it up re: GAJr... he'd surely be in the same boat.

The child would have the option which team they nominate for, similar to Kalani choosing between us and the Suns academy.

I do understand the notion of choice and how father/son works - I guess I was being a bit more nuanced around where CP5’s allegiance will end up…

Nah they will feature teams that played finals last year.

A premiership fancy vs a rebuilding side isn't going to bring many eyeballs.

I like GC, but I think I'll like them a bit less next year.

Well, Max hopes Clarry can win a Brownlow next year. He said no such thing about Trac...

Well, it is rare for two players to win it unless it is a draw so of course he would he choose his mate first. He didn't mention Trac but he didn't mention any of his teammates either ...

For context, didn't Max say GCS will probably win the next 10 flags so he couldn't wish the same for Trac ie Brownlow, implying Trac will have plenty of success anyway?

Not sure why people assume anything positive said about Clarry is an implied criticism of Trac ...

Similarly, when Trac says anything positive about the GCS people automatically think he’s bagging the MFC.

No idea why people still go on about that. He said similar about GCS.

And of course it is a job! Nothing wrong with that.

No one anywhere, is wedded to their job! Why do people expect something else from footballers.

Players know their AFL job has a limited life then they all move onto something else.

Very good point!

It seems to me people just want to bag Trac - the 'Tall Poppy' syndrome at play!

If we don't win the flag i hope they do. Them or the Giants.

The alternatives are far less desirable. I'm grateful Oliver and Petracca didn't go to any of them. That would have been a hard watch.
