In my wildest dreams I could NEVER see Clarry shirking hard work! That in essence wasn't what drove him out. It was Kings wishy washy spin that would see him potentially play a different position and spend time at Casey! I SAY IT AGAIN CLARRY AT CASEY??? BEGGARS BELIEF!

I'll call 'fair play' on your first point there. Once he got into it Clayton lived for the routine of physical training. Catching the 'workout bug' in his late teens was what turned him into one of the all-time single-season draft bolters. I think we would all agree it was only when injury denied him that routine that he really started to struggle.

Post retirement from football he's going to need to be a fence poster or shearer just to keep his mind occupied!

Some will hang onto Clayton to hit the club over the head for the decision to off load him, some will hang onto him until he implodes then say told you so. Me I sleep comfortably at night knowing even though we are still paying $650k for him he was the Best Mid we ever saw in the Red and Blue.

By the way DZ, just say Clayton falls out with GWS and they have a cancel clause, do we still have to pay off the $650?

Or are we covered?

Gees mate not denigrating fence posters or shearers but maybe he might surprise with life after footy. Apparently family are very good folk, just a pity things didn't work out with his former partner Sophie who was a really good influence. Um yeah I hope he finds fullfilment after footy!

i doubt his manager would have allowed a cancel clause in his gws contract

as for our separate contract with him, i'd guess we are stuck with it to completion no matter what (but that's my guess)

Only the CEO, President, Richo, Tim Lamb and the new COO could answer That one Willmoy1947. I’m hoping that he honours his new contract and plays some good footy for GWS but time will tell. 🤞

Clarry hasn't put in 100% since late 2022..On or off the Field, that has always been the core problem

Yeah coz I will keep the flame ALIVE

Um, you can provide proof of your arguement??

His output tells the story. Starting weeks after he signed the big one. A Hammy that kept him out for 3 months…???

Huh? Great teams have players that give their all - training hard, following tactics, playing in positions that suit the team - because it's a team game and team success is the ultimate goal. Sure, if someone's the 26th best player in a brilliant club i can understand them going to another club. But why would someone like Oliver partially put in the hard yards but then lose it over a position change?! Unless he didn't believe in his own ability why wouldn't he just get on with it in a position change, like many others have done, happy to know it'll probably lead to team success (that thing we haven't had in two years). What gives??

The video evidence of him trying to get back much earlier and having an arguement with Selwyn Griffiths I think it was!

Where else would you play a see ball get ball magnet like Clarry?

You mean EX-magnet. If he kept playing same as in recent years he weakens a midfield.

Which was already weakened having J.V in as a slow one dimensional mid!

I’ve liked everything King has done so far besides the handling of Clarry.

Why did the players the line up for round 1 and it was a blank canvass but tell Clarrie a legend of the club he will be playing for Casey?

Because we got a good deal for Trac. Even though we wasted the picks imo

So you think Taylor and Latrelle Pickett won’t make it.

Don't know. Just thought we should have used the picks on a key forward and a midfielder

I think Taylor and Picky 2 will be excellent players for us this season!

Definitely not denigrating fence posters or shearers! My point is simply that Clayton will be craving the physical demands and there aren't many jobs which put in a more relentless days labour than those. They also have the rhythm of always having the next task in front of you and you keep going until you are done.

In contrast, imagine him in a corporate cubicle farm!

I agree our midfield is currently our biggest weakness, closely followed by the forward line... the bet that was made was on Langford, Windsor & XL to come through and that will take another 2-3 seasons before we will be able to tell one way or another.

Love Riv, Viney and the support crew in Steele, Sparrow but they are just solid B/C graders and unfortunately will not be enough for us to be competitive (make the 8). Whilst Kozzy is a star himself, it will be interesting to see if he alone can make a difference. My guess is that he'll likely attract a tag and based on what i have seen, he doesn't tend to do well with that type of attention.

That is why you need at least A graders in every midfield to be competitive and probably 3-4 to have a real chance of winning a flag. With the way the game is trending though, you also need a solid rebound capability and that means HB flankers and im surprised we didnt invest more into that part of the ground as well.

He didn't do much for us in the last two years, everyone out has their own theories. We got screwed at the trade table, which everyone agrees to. Please let this thread die , he is longer a Dee player. Perhaps we should bring up Colin Sylvia ! he got a lot of useless air play. Forget Clarry , drink more.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
