Whenโ€™s this thread going to end ๐Ÿ˜‚

Someone in 25 years still will be posting about how we should or shouldnโ€™t have traded him for sure!

You can end it by not reading it. Simple.

Aldi is everyoneโ€™s first, according to the ad.

Itโ€™s generally meant as the first person you love etc. I was using it in a joking sense as Clarry is the first favourite player of any sport Iโ€™ve hadโ€”other than tennis. And that was John McEnroe so gives you and idea of my taste ๐Ÿ˜‚

Not the right effect without capitals.

You guys are the absolute pits of the world, you know that? (Obviously that was his follow up to your quote). My other favourite is โ€œDo you have any problems other than youโ€™re unemployed, a moron, and a dork?โ€

And thatโ€™s what made me like him. He was feisty when I was in my early teens ๐Ÿ˜‚

Nup!

Some will hang onto Clayton to hit the club over the head for the decision to off load him, some will hang onto him until he implodes then say told you so. Me I sleep comfortably at night knowing even though we are still paying $650k for him he was the Best Mid we ever saw in the Red and Blue.

I think the club made the right decision and I wish him all the best.

Perhaps his greatest supporter was Goody and with him going the writing was on the wall.

Clarrie still has lots of mates amongst the players but the playing group is happy he has gone to another club.

An aside but how did we miss singing "That's Petracca" while we had him...

Fans would sing about players they loved (or hated), things that happened on the pitch (or off it), adapting melodies from popular songs or full chants from other teams while simply tweaking the lyrics to suit the subject. One of many, many such examples: Dean Martinโ€™s Thatโ€™s Amore became a tribute by Brighton fans to Bobby Zamora.

From a great article in the Age about why the Barmy Army are streets ahead of Aussie cricket fans when it comes to match day singing.

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/why-don-t-aussie-sporting-crowds-sing-like-the-brits-do-blame-the-beatles-20251229-p5nqh1.html

Interesting that there continues to be a lot of posts over Oliverโ€™s exit but Petracca has mostly been forgotten on Demonland recently.

Because we got a good deal for Trac. Even though we wasted the picks imo

Also Clarry wanted to stay but Tracc was going for a long time!

He didn't make much of an effort Picket, he had a contract could have stayed if he'd wanted to.

By the end of 2022 he had two Coaches Awards, three All-Australian nods, four Melbourne B&Fs and at 150 games was on target to hold the all time records for contested possessions, clearances, handballs and a few other sundry stats.

He had 110 Brownlow votes before his 150th game.

In his 150th game he clocked 3 brownlow votes.

In his 151st another 2 votes.

Since then, in total for two and a half seasons, just six more.

Not sure there has even been a more dramatic 'two halves' of a career than what seems to be forming for Oliver.

But he will have fun and be well used at GWS, given they had a key list need for clearance support for Green, particularly with both Coniglio and Kelly out with injury again.

2 seasons wasnโ€™t half his career and in on of those he was playing with broken everything. He couldnโ€™t handball, tackle or mark because his wrist was broken as well as his hand and ribs.

His last season wasnโ€™t up to his usual standards but he came back fit for the preseason and I thought his form was on the up again but just lost chemistry with Petracca.

One of them had to go and I donโ€™t think it was Clarry

Clarry didn't want to do the hard work, under a new Coach.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourneโ€™s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time atย Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: โ€œIs Melbourne even at the ground?โ€ Moments later, as Carltonโ€™s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demonsโ€™ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.ย
