Sure, but what does "throw a fair bit at getting Trac" mean if it doesn't involve Humphrey? We don't want picks.

Might need to get another club involved.

Agree with your point.

However can you actually see the Dees walking away from negotiations if Humphrey is off the table? I cant.

We’re renowned to be very fair and collaborative to deal with at trade week and our trades never go down to the last second of deadline night.

Unfortunately I see this as a picks only package coming back our way and I hope I’m wrong.

The Dees from the past few years? Definitely

We’ve been push overs at the trade table to our own detriment

But so far King and Guerra seem to be willing to make the tough decisions, and I’m hoping this is the case in any trade negotiations

They know we’re far worse off next year with no Trac and only a couple of extra 18 year olds, and I imagine King won’t want to make any deal that makes us worse as a team

Offer Trac, F1 and whatever second/third round picks we have from Spargo, Oliver, May, McVee for Humphrey and 7

F1 would be enticing to GC as they wouldn't expect us to make finals next year.

Second and third rounders we won't use anyway for points for academy blokes.

First rounder they don't need back to us.

People will say this is overs but it's the kind of deal the club has shown to be more than comfortable doing if it gets us our man.

We hold all the cards don't we? All the MFC people keep saying it. We win if we keep Trac and we win if we get Humphreys. It's up to them to make us a deal that's too good to knock back...so it's gotta be good!

Overs! This is the Suns deal to make.

They have what we’d accept for Trac.

If they don’t close then Trac has to take the hit to his ego and get into AA form.

Win win for us.

Meh we're rebuilding and getting 21 year old who can play the same role as Petracca is more important than 'winning' a trade by holding onto a bunch of picks we won't use anyway.

Guerra and King seem to mean business. A head turning deal is Humphrey or I suspect two very high first rounders

Is 6 and 7 fair?

Depends where you think we are on the premiership (or doomsday) clock

As long as we have a red hot crack to turn his head. Then Ill be happy. Love that King got a meeting in before going home. Plenty to discuss over the family dinner table this week

Gold coast will play hard ball but I feel like we have positioned ourselves pretty well with trac, in that we have been upfront that it will take a very generous deal to get him. they won't want to let humphrey go but if he says he wants to go it may force their hand.

Lots to play out over the next week

6 & 7 will effectively turn out to be what with academy picks factored in?

9 & 10? 10 & 11? something around those lines

Hardly head turning.

As perspective, last year we traded this year's first and pretty much all our second and third rounders to get Lindsay. A lot of people said it was overs at the time. I reckon we don't regret that deal.

No. Besides it being a poor draft, dees want players not picks.

Getting Humphrey without giving our F1 isn’t “winning” the trade. It’s making a fair trade.

Imv Trac for Humphrey is a straight swap deal, whatever is added on either side should be strategic points pick dealing that serves each side

would you take Xavier Lindsay

Hypothetically would you take Xavier Lindsay and Taj Hotton for Trac

The real issue is getting Humphrey to want to come.

It’s embarrassing that Oliver is on a boat while Trac is at Metricon and the beach for dinner. While we’re walking Humphrey around the tan.

We need some game. Host him at Gawn’s place on the peninsula. Or take him to the MCG, surely we can get access. Get a photo of that out there.

GC have an absolute embarrassment of riches in talent, pics and acadamy freebies. If they want Tracc, then don't be tight and pay up.

They were throwing pics around like tic tacs to Richmond last year, under no circumstances do we include a pic (outside of junk pics to them for points) in this trade.

Suggestions of trading our first next year are utterly mental.

As regards to the idea of this being a compromised draft, surely the northern academy picks are irrelevant because we're not getting them anyway. It's really the compensation picks and the possibility of another club swooping in to nab a talented kid we've had our eye on that's the problem.

I've never actually understood why the AFL have to compromise the draft by giving the club that's losing a player a pick anyway. Can't it just be left for the two clubs to sort out themselves? If team A wants a player from team B then they have to give up something back that's comparable. If they don't then they aren't getting them. It shouldn't end up with one team jumping the queue in the draft.

With talk that he has been in contact with Hawthorn for 2 months- it’s going to be hard to get him to nominate us. We have very little appeal, other than a new coach and new gameplan.. plus plenty of freed up cash.

Hawks can’t get a deal done. They have nothing to give GC.

So if Humphrey wants to go to the Hawks he has to wait until he’s OOC or hope Hawks can get assets next year to make it happen.

feel it'll be 7 and 14 which then will be 11 and 18 which isnt great

If it’s his priority to get home to Vic, he’d be advised that his best bet would be to nominate us given the Trac trade

No other club save for Carlton will have sufficient picks to satisfy GC, and GC don’t want picks and Carlton need picks for their F/S

Maybe I’ve got my red and blue glasses on but IF he comes home this trade period I think he comes to us

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
