The Bailey Humphrey Thread

There has to be a world where we're prepared to take Trac back for this approach to work.

If we've officially closed the book on Trac and won't be coming back under any circumstances, then we're at the mercy of the Suns I reckon.

The King wants to work with Trac.

If you’re GC, no way you’re coming out this early saying yes Humphrey for Trac work. You’re trying the picks approach first then softening early next week.

Hope we are strong on this.

Thought Lamby spoke well, was quite clear, reiterated that Gold Coast would have to come to us and turn our heads. Now we’ve gotta follow through on this

I hope so too but past experiences shows that we never are and fold like a card table chair at a $2 shop clearance sale

We need to put this one to rest.

I reckon its simply a case where Bailey was in Melb already visisting family and had a few meetings to understand his worth and what a role at another club would look like.

I'd say he will be taking this back to GC for some leverage knowing they won't be trading him any time soon.

He's 21 with a huge ceiling as one of their core players. You don't trade these guys unless they absolutely demand out and thats not what is happening here.

And Flanders is the curveball here too.

I think the Suns will trya and force him to Melbourne.

And I hope we say it's Humphrey or Trac stays.

Our past experience shows we just want to get the deal done.

With the Suns allegedly asking for x3 first rounders, although I've only seen that on Demonland, we may have to give up our future 1st for Humphrey.

If that's what it takes to get the deal done, it's not ideal, but we're getting a young gun to build our midfield around with Kozzy, Langford and Lindsay.

It's pretty exciting and the details are really minor at the end of the day if we land Humphrey.

Well the thing is if he doesn't get the money it just goes to someone else on our list. That's how the salary floor works. You do generally have to pay extra to get outside talent over the line. Especially when we have very little else to offer. It's probably overs at this point in his career but the talent is there. I'd absolutely take the punt.

I would've thought you could under- spend and bank like the Saints have done for two or more years.

I get all of that. It doesn't preclude wondering.

This is day 1 of the Circus ( proper ) . Lots of twists and turns to come. There'll be trades and some won't happen at all. Never know who suddenly gets up and puts hand up.

If the Bear is worth it...fair enough.

The Saints haven't really underspent, you still have to pay a minimum of the cap, and now they're losing good players like Marshall, because they've overspent on players like TDK this year.

Crazy to hear GCs reaction to the Humphrey noise when they are in pursuit of Trac

Would be nice to hear us come out with a statement saying Trac is a required player and we will not be bending over for 2 picks

Just optics to appease their 32 supporters....Humphrey wants to go. $$$ a massive factor!

Petracca taking more mid time/forward.

I know he is contracted but tough to keep when getting offered a lot more, right now, not in 2 years time.

@Adam The God Agree here. Given Flanders had chosen the Saints, the Dees should push for Humphrey. Was ok with Humphrey and pick 16 FOR Trac and pick 24. That still favours the Suns imv. Although Trac will be 30 at the start of next year, Humphrey went missing in a few games (especially the final v Lions) and can be inconsistent. Trac is a proven match winner and has performed on the big stage.

If it’s not Humphrey, then I’d be ok with Trac staying at MFC.

100%

Just need us tome out and say Trac is not going anywhere

Call the bluff and land Humphreys and Pick 6 for Trac

Anyone on the forums from Moe? We need some country town intelligence

Melbourne want Humphrey and a high end draft pick. Not worried about the $$$$, we just want Humphrey to come out and nominate us. I believe we will settle on a straight swap

The argument is it places GC right in the premiership window and with one of the best midfields in the comp. It was suggested that with Trac coming in to the GC midfield, what would BH position be and hence the looking around at his options

Gold Coast walk away then. It’s not going to be a straight swap

If you listen, he said all the above and was as stern as he has been publicly ever.

Any sense on whether Humphrey will nominate us?

I believe the floor and cap amounts are calculated over 3 years, so as long as you average above the floor and below the cap over those three years, it's not a breach. A club could be 20% over the cap in one year, as long as it's at least 10% under it in the two other years used in the rolling calculation.

Pick 3-6 in 2026 can’t be on the table. Next years draft is very important to us.

I can see why you would say this, but what is the price for a premiership? With Trac it advances considerably. With Humphrey, it may be a bit longer.

Dimma is in a hurry

If we land Humphrey, I don't really care how we do it.

As I said above, Kozzy, Langford, Humphrey and Lindsay with Bowey in support is a mouthwatering midfield group as early as next year.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.
