Have heard a couple of people saying this about Salem and I wonder whether they're watching different games to me.

Had a really solid season and deservedly finished 5th in the BnF.

I agree

Arguably our best kick down back. Bowey fumbles far too much and cost us plenty of goals last season from it.

Salem is now reminding me of Jordan Lewis in his last few seasons with us. Decent with ball in hand, but slow and unaccountable when we don't have it. Heaven help him when he gets caught chasing back players like Charlie Cameron or Isaak Rankine when we turn it over.

FB- Jiath Petty Turner

HB- bowey lever lindsay

C- langdon rivers culley

HF- Viney JVR Fristch

FF- Chandler Mihocek Langford

FOLL- Gawn Windsor Pickett

bench- Steele Kentfield Howes Salem Tholstrup

Emergency- Adams Sharp Sparrow

provided its one of robey or dovaston they would replace tholstrup in the best 23

langford rotating into the middle as a deep forward with pickett and rivers to play deep aswell

Early crack at it

lever. May. Turner

CJ. Petty. Bowey

Langdon. Steele. Windsor

Fritta. Van rooyen. Mcadams

Chandler. Mihocek. Kozzie

Gawn. Viney. Rivers

Salem, sparrow, heath, Langford, Lindsay

Many teams' top ten picks will turn out to be pretty good. Certainly some will be established in the side by year's end. It could be that even by April a newbie has already gone ahead of someone in these lists.

There young sides but a good amount of talent and role players.

You’ve absolutely got to hope so.

I’m not Steven may.

Ironically, I think Melksham is more likely to play than May.

Potentially. I’m sure both play at times and the hope would be by years end they’re overtaken by the young guys. We are in strife if we’re relying on them

Maybe, but I like winning.

Petty, Lever, Adams, Turner are more likely to squeeze out May

Mihocek, JVR, Kentfield, Jefferson are far less likely to squeeze out Melksham

I don't care who plays where except for JvR - I do not want him rucking. CHF with Mihocek at FF.

A decent, experienced forwards coach (Hawkins?) teaching him the craft. Failing this we'll see a replay of this season - with less goals.

Personally I don't see May featuring in R1, like some have suggested.

Salem Adams Turner

CJ Lever AMW

Langdon Viney Culley

Chandler JVR Fritsch

Petty Mihocek Melksham

Gawn Rivers Picket

Windsor (Mid/def) Lindsay(def/wing) Langford(mid/fwd) Steele(Mid/Def) 7 or 8

Em. Kentfield, TMac, Bowey Heath

Tempted to try Bowey as a forward instead of Melksham.

I wonder how our long term injured players in the form of AMW and McAdam are shaping up for pre season and whether they're a chance for the praccy matches?

Can see AMW in the round 1 side taking the oppo's premier small forward if he's available for the late February/early March games.

McAdam probably more a round 5/6 onwards prospect should his VFL form warrant it.

It was either Chaplin who regretted it or Bowey himself saying that he didn't like playing in the forward line late in the year.

I'd say Bowey is a lock in our defence.

Can see a scenario where Max Health plays a few games next year alternating between forward/ruck and spending a fair bit of time on the bench with the extra addition to the bench.

With everything said about the 5-man bench, subject to his pre-season and practice/pre-season match form, I reckon Heath gets that 23rd spot.

This is my early call, qualifying him to be MBMH, now that M(ex)BJMcV has slunk off.

I think it has to be a big show. Gawn will need more rest and Heath isn’t competing with a very competent tall brigade.

And where does king see petty? Rhetorical for now.

Jeez, I hope he can hold down that FP (40 mins), Ruck (30 mins), bench (50 mins) role.

For a guy who kicked 31 goals last season (3rd at the club) and an average of 1.7 per game (2nd at the club), Melksham must be pretty stiff to miss in a lot of these lineups.

Picket has to be in the middle. Viney has to get a second bow to his quiver in the forward line. I would like to start Heath. I want to set up to win, not develop players that are not ready. We will have enough ‘kids/developing younger player’ demanding a game; Turner, Adams, Heath, Culley, Langford, Lindsay, Windsor, Tholstrup (I hope), ND11, ND12, et al.

Heath Melksham Fritsch

Chandler Mihocek Culley

Windsor Rivers Langdon

Jiath Turner Bowey

Lever Petty Salem

Gawn Pickett Viney

Langford Lindsay Tholstrup JVR Laurie

No disrespect to Salem, but if we don't have someone taking over his small running defender role this season that's a real concern. He's cooked. My take on the 5th bench position is that it should be a running player, not a 2nd ruck. I'd put Pickett in at centre ball ups instead of Viney, Steele or Langford then straight down to the forward line for him.

I like Turner up forward, booming kick and pretty accurate but if that doesn't work out then May gets dropped, send Turner to the backline and promote Heath, Tmac (I still rate him a much better forward than he is a defender), Kentfield or Jefferson.

Can’t believe this ! Salem had a great season

A few thoughts:

  • It's really not a bad side, but misses the obvious star power of (prime) Trac and Clarry

  • If picks 7 & 8 hit the ground running we'll have some impressive young talent running around

  • Can't see why we'd play May in R1 unless injuries strike

  • Really need another high quality small forward
