The 6 seconds where the locals refused to give the ball back might've been handy

The football itself gets significantly better every year - everything around it gets worse. The clock can't just tick down as the ball rolls around a car park.

Port deserved to win. They brought the heat and we couldn't handle it.

Really poor performance from us. no rhythm in our game at all

Kate Hore did her best but no one else stood up with her.

fumbly, couldn't hit targets, inaccurate, just not our day

we welcome daisy back to Casey next week so hopefully we can get back on track there.

go dees.

That male commentator was dreadful. Surely Fox can do better than that. It was distasteful referring to “Big head” for Harris’s cardboard cut out in the crowd. He thought it was so funny he kept on saying it. Who is he?

Flicking between the footy and the races this arvo but from what I saw, we didn't deserve to get that close. Port just looked like they wanted it more.

No Kate no Melbourne. Amazing footballer.

Colvin much better after a disappointing first half . Shelley Heath a down day. Hanks good but like the team trained to be too cute.

The team cannot afford Bannon going missing for weeks every year. The season is just not long enough. Offered nothing today. Unfortunately if Banno and Zanker lose confidence it’s day over for them.

Maevo good and tried hard to stop some rot.

This gameplan is getting found out. Looks beautiful when it’s on, but pressure the receiver and it keeps breaking down. It’s not a finals brand in my mind. Doesn’t help when the first touch form is down from key players. Too cute, too much reliance on perfection.

We overhandballed all game until the last 10 minutes then we got back in the game. They outpressured us for most of the game. Thank god for Hore kept us in the game. I think Pearce has played one season too long got an absolute bath today. Mahony not worth a pinch of salt, surely Pisano is a better option. Need Goldrick and Gillard back ASAP.

stop phaffing about handballing.

stinear needs to sort this at half time

Hard to be critical of Stinear but he doesn’t make many changes

Nor does he change tactics even when the weather or opposition doesn’t suit his game style

Hore is unbelievable

27 touches and 3.1 in an 80 minute match. Imagine The full 130min men’s game!

plus 9 tackles. best player in the league for me

So close 💔 Had the game gone another 60 seconds we probably would have brought home the four points. So disappointed.

Fitzy’s 50th and Tay’s 75th. Would’ve been quite the celebration ☹️

Captain Kate is crazy good. We’re truly blessed to have her.

Hore great.

Most others fumbled and made poor decisions, pausing to find a handball and getting caught. And gee's some of the skills for some players, is still junior level, you can see them thinking on what to do, it's that slow. Missed early chances gave them a sniff and the won.

Port deserved to win.

He was a terrible commentator. Carrying on about the giant head like it’s the first time he’s ever seen one. The game’s on and he’s discussing the storage and transport of giant heads like a 5yo

Don’t underestimate how big a loss Purcell is. The Dees run & carry was magnificent with the Purcell and Hanks combo initiating it. But we’ve struggled since Purcell’s season was ended. The reality is you can’t replace someone of Purcell’s class. Since the injury, we certainly don’t cope with pressure as well.

Imagine Gold Coast without Rowell…

I feel for Stinear. The team trained all preseason and early season with a game style taking advantage of our strengths, then we lose one of the pillars. Stinear will earn his coaching credentials now.

I agree 100%, her missing last and now this year has a huge impact on the team. (plus other key injuries) obviously we need to find aprucell replacement to do that role within the squad.

That would have been some kind of an underserved victory if we stole that one! To be honest, I was a bit nervous about this as our first travel game. Credit to Port Adelaide. Their pressure was great and they made us play their game. At times, some of their players simply looked hungrier.

Cons:

Over-used the footy badly, fumbles galore

Forward connection clearly left behind in Melbourne

Woeful, inaccurate goalkicking

Backline exposed – would have loved Gillard out there

Are we seeing the end of Pearce?

Positives:

Good fight back, got the run and carry going, then more direct

Honestly, winning that one after playing that way would probably not have been beneficial in the big picture

Kate Hore is one hell of a competitor

When we play teams with a physical presence and the ability to put proper pressure on the ball carrier, things tend to fall apart. Often our ball carriers were fumbly and then left stranded without that second layer of support. The Purcell-shaped hole gets larger the greater the quality of opposition – and there’s just no obvious fix for that in an immediate sense. Hanks is putting in some season but she's a 20% better player with Purcell there.

To make finals we need 6, possibly 7 wins total. So, 3-4 more. We underestimate West Coast at our peril.

I think both the coaching group and the players have done incredibly well to get us in the position we are. 4w 1l with a really solid percentage.

We've been decimated with injuries and having Goldy with her run And Gillard back in the team should hopefully steady the ship.

I'll take this as a fantastic start considering our injuries.

There's a belief in this team that they can somehow still win and they don't give up.

If we can get some key players back and finish top 4 for the finals. That would be a huge achievement in itself.

Go Dees

Put Gillard, Lampard and Goldrick in that back line today no way we lose, despite our atrocious goal kicking and over use of handball. I knew our patchwork, inexperienced back line would get caught out eventually. They've done a great job to date so plaudits for that.

Agree with the earlier comment about seeking perfection, it's the biggest criticism I'd have of Stinear's coaching over the ten seasons. Looks amazing when it comes off but it's low percentage. Trust our quality forwards to win one out contests most of the time, and get the ball down to them quickly.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
