Yeah it's the worst time of the year, hey? Can't stand all the posturing and leaking clubs do to try and one-up each other.

People are desperate for content too, so media will turn any scrap of info into 5 x 300 word articles.

Our coach hasn't even started yet.

Very true.

Hopefully when he does, it ramps up and we get some players in other than ones already mentioned.

I just want to see a genuine plan and strategy for the list which I feel has been missing the past few years.

St Kilda strategy can only end badly. Blokes going there for massive coin doomed to fail.

One of those things Daz, i am sure if we matched the deal we could have still signed him, but i am pleased the club didn't want to overpay for someone for the sake of a signing, like the Saints have with their entire offseason.

I'm not a fan of trading Trac out at all.

If he decides to leave then it leaves a gaping hole of talent in our midfield depth. 2nd in the best and fairest and still polled 16 brownlow votes for a guy that was playing catch up from last year.

Whilst Flanders isn’t a like for like, he's talented enough to narrow that hole that Petracca will leave if he ends up leaving.

With you, I'd only be trading Trac if it meant we got high end picks, they took on his whole wage and we planned to throw the kitchen sink at Zak Butters next year.

But i mean Steven King has a stated goal of finals, which we're unlikely to achieve without Trac.

Only way we make finals is by improving our list. Trading Trac for a couple of average picks aint it.

But you're saying average picks. Ted never said that.

We will not trade Trac unless we get a decent return. That may not be x15 1st rounders, but if we could get x1st and a player or x2 1sts, I'd be very happy.

And as Ted says, ensure whichever club Trac is traded to takes on his entire salary, so we can throw our hat into the Butters ring, St Kilda-style.

High end picks... I'm just keeping Trac kicking and screaming if it's for pick 20 and 22 or something like that

the suggestion of Adelaides 2 picks would be a horrible deal for the MFC, it's MASSIVE unders for us considering we have no actual incentive to trade Trac unless it makes us better long term

Surely Tim Lamb's job is in jeopardy. Haven't traded in a gun since Langdon and Brown, and the contracts he has been dishing out to the geriatrics and injury-prone are stiffling the club. We need to get a fresh perspective and list-management ethos, just like we have done so far with the coach, CEO and in-coming president.

Cal said that Richmond is open to trading out one of its top 2 picks which will be 3&4. Said they are will to trade back or into next year to spread their picks

We could set that as the price for Trac.

Would people see Trac and 23 or Trac and pick we get for Spargo as a fair deal?

No club will take his full wage. It really is a rarity now days a club will take on a full salary on top of what they have offered from there end.

On top of their bubbling salary cap and willingness to re-sign Ben King next year, they will want a war chest ready to go for him.

No, because first of all Trac has to agree to go to Richmond which he wont because clearly he wants to go to a contending team which Richmond aren't.

In terms of that. Richmond would love at those offer's.

Trac has to want to go to Richmond though, unless you're involving a third team in a trade there.

I wont speak for @Colm but i read it as yes, the price for Trac would be what Richmond will except for pick 3 which would get passed onto Melbourne in a three way

Yeah I meant if he were to go to the likes of Hawks, GC or Adelaide then we say we need pick 4 for on Richmond to make it happen.

Pick 7 for Flanders could be one if the worst trades for a while

Best time of the year outside us winning the flag.

When did Flanders turn into a top 10 pick let alone a first rounder.

Hes absolutely worth a mid-high first rounder.

The difference in this case is we expressed interest in Flanders and from all reports have/will meet with him

We weren’t linked to any of the others, except for a tenuous link to Worpel earlier in the year

The fact is when we’ve wanted a player over the last few years, we’ve seldom got them

If Petracca wants to go to GC, then getting Flanders would be relatively easy, if he agreed to play for us.

So if he knows that and we have a Coach he likes, we play at the G and he still selects the Saints, is it just the offered contract, or is there more to it?

If it is just money, have we set a ceiling on him, that even if we have cap room, we just don’t want to exceed?

I still think the Saints may live to regret this overpaying of a few players, to try and buy a flag now. I also believe they will have to let players go, as the new contracts and existing ones, just couldn’t possibly fit in the salary cap, unless they had about 20 players on the bare minimum as new draftees and that is clearly not the case.

100% agree Redleg

Don’t get me wrong I don’t think we should be overpaying for players, but blind Freddy can see the deficiencies in our list and Flanders would go some way addressing one of them (lack of a skilled midfielder)

Sometimes you need to offer a bit more to bring in the right players, and I’d be annoyed if Lamb and co weren’t prioritising Flanders

Wow Pick 7 for Flanders does change the talk around Trac's pick worth.

As others have mentioned 6 and 7 for Trac is very enticing. Even with the academy picks i'd still think that these picks stay in the top 10.

GCS would be mad to give both of those picks for Trac though.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
